PRESIDENT WELCOMING ADDRESS
7
Dear Friends,
I should like to invite you to CIPP VIII,
devoted to all aspects of respiratory
diseases in children. This year we
celebrate the place of our origin, Nice,
by returning for our 8th meeting.
The meeting is truly international – in Montreal, we had
speakers from countries from all over the world, and over 1000
delegates came from 78 countries. In these days of international
travel, we all need to know what is happening all over the world,
not just in our own back yard. Furthermore, new diseases, and new
complications of old diseases, are proving ever more taxing. Our
young investigators are producing cutting edge research, keeping
the seniors on their toes to try to stay a jump ahead – and research
will be reflected in our meeting as before. So I have three specific
invitations for everyone reading this.
The first: Put the date in your diary, and register early and take
advantage of the Early Bird registration discount.
The second: Think about your best research, and what your
group can present. There will be Young Investigators plenary sessions as before, with great prizes, and also poster sessions and prizes. This is a great opportunity for those starting out on their
careers to
present their work, have feedback from a large experienced audience, and come away with new ideas and hypotheses
to test.
And third: Let us know via the website the topics and speakers
you would like us to include. The program committee meets in
March 2007, and we need to know what is new and exciting from
all over the world – so what is going on in your patch, and who is
the best person to tell us about it.
See you in Nice!

Bruce Rubin (Winston Salem, USA)
Professor Bruce Rubin, the CIPP VIII Past President, is an amateur
magician who uses magic to charm and entertain sick children in his care.
He has prepared a short course to teach you the basics of clinical magic.
Each registrant will receive a magic kit and training in its use and in
presentation of tricks.
This interactive session will not teach you to do a magic show.
The emphasis is on age-appropriate and clinically relevant magic for
an individual patient and their family.
There is a fee of 120 Euros and each session will be limited in size to
the first 15 registrants.
All registrants must agree to follow the code of ethics of the International
Brotherhood of Magicians found at
