placement tests. These tests assess your
math, language, and reading skill levels. Just

Sign-up for an Orientation Workshop
or complete the Online Orientation by visiting
www.cerritos.edu/orientation. If attending in
person, please bring your unofficial high school
transcript and your assessment results to the
workshop. When additional assistance is needed
prior to enrollment, counselors are available
on a walk-in basis or by appointment at the
Counseling Center.

Can I attend Cerritos College?
Yes! You can attend if…
• You are 18 years of age or older, with or without a high school diploma or
• You are a high school graduate or
• You have the equivalent of a high school diploma or
• You are an international student with a valid non-immigrant, F-1 visa status or
• You are a high school student in your junior or senior year with appropriate criteria and
approvals (College Bridge program).
• If you are undocumented, you may attend Cerritos College and pay in-state tuition if
you qualify for AB-540.
Under AB-540 law, undocumented students qualify to pay in-state tuition if they meet
the following requirements:
1. Attended a California high school for 3 or more years.
2. Graduate from a California high school or receive the equivalent general education
diploma (GED).
3. File an affidavit with the public state college or university stating that he or she will file an
application to obtain legal permanent residency as soon as he or she is eligible.
Assessment and Orientation-Counseling (AOC) is required for first-time, new to any
college, students prior to enrollment. You may choose to participate in the Early Success
Program (ESP) and receive the benefit of earlier enrollment if AOC is completed by a

What is Assessment?
Assessment is the process of gathering information about you to ensure your success in
college, and it is required for first-time students. If you plan to enroll in a math, English or
reading class, earn an associate in arts degree, or transfer to a 4-year university, these tests
will help counselors place you in the most appropriate courses.
Why go to the Orientation Workshop?
As a new student, you are required to attend the orientation workshop to receive
counselor assistance to select courses. This workshop also acquaints you with Cerritos
College programs, services and makes the enrollment process easier. Orientation
workshops are offered in the day and evening prior to enrollment. If you are not able to
attend in person, please complete orientation online at www.cerritos.edu/orientation.
Why do I need Counseling?
Counselors are here to assist you with the development of an
educational plan and the selection of courses. We suggest that you
make an appointment, but counselors are also available on a walkin basis. General counseling assistance can also be found online by

Online and hybrid courses are offered and carry
full academic credit. The content is equivalent
to the traditional mode of delivery (in-person
instruction).
The Admissions and Records Office has many
functions. It is responsible for: application
for admission, permanent records, transcript
requests, student academic petitions,
verification of student enrollment to
appropriate institutions, and a segment of the
enrollment procedure.

Assessment testing is administered in the
Assessment Office located next to the
Career Services Center. Results are used
for advisement in selecting classes. Tests
for reading, math, English writing, and ESL
placement are available.

used textbooks, reference materials, school
supplies, snacks, imprinted gifts and clothing.

Counselors are available in the Counseling
Center to assist you with academic advisement,
establishing realistic goals and devising a

Counselors keep you abreast of current
requirements for your major and are available
on a half-hour appointment basis or standby

A set of classes that are “packaged” together for
you, in which you will become part of a learning
community as you will be given the opportunities
to form study groups. You will be taking a full
program of courses including English, math, and
study skills.
Learning Communities offers classes in which
the subject matter and ways of investigating
questions in two or more fields are integrated.
The class may be designed around a unifying
theme, based on courses that reinforce the
students’ special needs. In principle, students
learn from students and faculty and faculty learn
from students and each other.
Project HOPE ..................................x7847
Project HOPE is dedicated to increasing the
number of Latinos and other underrepresented
groups entering, matriculating, and completing
health careers. This program is designed to
help and guide students through the rigorous
academic and social work involved with health
professions.
The Puente Program is an academic, counseling,
and mentoring program that supports educationally
underrepresented students in building the skills
necessary for success in academic and career goals
while at Cerritos College.
Scholars’ Honors Program..........x2728
The Scholars’ Honors Program (SHP) is a social
and academic home that Cerritos College offers
to talented and motivated students planning to
transfer to four-year colleges and universities,
especially to the UC and CSU systems. It
introduces you to a community of faculty
and staff who are committed to helping you
succeed and it provides you with a supportive
environment of fellow-students with similar
goals and interests.

The Teacher TRAC program offers many services,
programs, and pathways for students interested
in teaching K-12. For students interested in
becoming an elementary school teacher, Teacher
TRAC’s flagship program is a partnership with
California State University Long Beach.
As a student in the integrated, standards based
Teacher TRAC / CSULB program, you can earn
your bachelor’s degree, multiple subject teaching
credential and complete your student teaching.

Cerritos College is a member of the South Coast
Conference. Cerritos men’s teams are represented
in: baseball, basketball, cross country, football
(SCFA), soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field,
water polo and wrestling (SCWA). Cerritos women’s
teams are represented in: basketball,cross country,
soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field,
volleyball, and water polo.
Cerritos College offers a variety of campus clubs and
organizations for every phase of campus life. They
provide opportunities for students in social, service,
curricular, and special interest programs. There are
approximately 60 clubs on campus that include the
International Student Association, Music Club, Phi
Theta Kappa and the Anthropology Club.
Certificates, Degrees and Transfer
Associate in Arts Degree (AA)
This degree is granted upon completion of two
parts, specialized education (department major)
and general education coursework. You must
complete 60 units of degree applicable work.
Earning an AA Degree can be completed in two
years, but varies depending on part-or full-time
status and course placement.
Certificate of Achievement
A certificate of achievement is granted when
coursework is completed in an area of
specialization—general education courses are not
required. This certificate provides you with handson training in areas such as woodworking, welding,
automotives, court reporting, culinary arts, and
cosmetology.
Transfer to a University
Transferring includes the completion of courses
that satisfy the university’s lower division general
education and major requirements to obtain your
bachelor’s degree. You are advised to complete 60
transferable units in order to be eligible for full junior
status at the transfer institution.
