The Board unanimously selected Dr. Fierro during its board meeting held on May 6. His start date will be determined pending negotiations. Dr. Fierro currently serves as the vicepresident of academic affairs and chief academic officer at Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Prior to joining Laramie County Community College, Dr. Fierro served as an academic dean, associate dean of liberal arts and sciences, and professor of biological sciences at Florida State College. Dr. Jose Fierro Dr. Fierro earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Applied Sciences in Bogotá, Colombia, a Master of Science degree in leadership and management of educational programs from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He also holds a doctorate degree in higher education leadership from Northcentral University in Prescott, Arizona. “We are excited to welcome Dr. Fierro to the Cerritos College family. We look forward to his leadership and his ability to build on our successes here at the College,” said Carmen Avalos, president, Cerritos College Board of Trustees. The College anticipates that Dr. Fierro will assume the presidency upon Dr. Linda L. Lacy’s retirement this July. Dr. Lacy has served as the College’s CEO since 2009, and will retire having served in education for 41 years.
