Skniper
Make assurance double sure
And double warm!
The first pattern of my Sknitters series is finally
ready! A bit proud and full of hope that you may
like this beanie. It became quite complex due to
the doubled cuff, which is worked with short rows.
So this project is for experienced knitters.
Shorter in the front, longer in the back , this one
stands out! Enjoy knitting! :)

Pattern
Size
This pattern is written for size S to M. That's head
circumference from 54 -59 cm / 21-23 inch (if you
use a elastic or not) .
Gauge
Stocking stich: knit RS row, purl WS row.
13st x 20r = 10cm x 10cm (4 inch x 4 inch)
Doubled cuff
Work back and forth. The drawing on page 2
shows the expanded cuff form.
Cast on 16 st with needle number 10,5 (US) 6,5mm or 7mm.
1. R: Purl all sts. Increase 4 sts at the end = 20 sts.
2. R: Knit all sts. Increase 4 sts at the end = 24 sts.
3. R: Purl all sts. Increase 4 sts at the end = 28 sts.
4.-12. R: Continue in stocking st and increase at
the end of every row 4 sts = 64 sts.
13.-20. R: Stop increasing and continue in stocking
st. The 20th row is a RS-row and should be knit.
21.-22. R: Knit all sts.
23.-29. R: Stocking st.
→ From now begin short rows.
30. R: Knit all sts until 4 sts left. *Slip the next
stitch like if you want to purl it, put yarn in front of
work, and put the stitch back to the left hand
needle. The yarn rests now between stitch 61 and
62 and makes a yarnover. Turn work.*
31. R: Purl all sts until 4 sts left. Repeat from * to *.
The 4 borderstitches are resting st and you have
56 sts left to work.
32. R: Knit all sts until 4 sts left (not counting the
resting sts from the last row).
Repeat from * to * of row 30. (52 sts remaining).
33. R: Purl all sts until 4 sts left (not couting the
resting sts from the last row).
Repeat from * to * of row 30. (48 sts remaining).
34.-41. R: Repeat row 32 and 33 and put 4 sts on
each end to rest (16sts left).
42. R: Knit all sts until getting to the wrap.
^Put your needle knitwise into wrap and put the
needletip also in the stitch that is inside the
yarnover. Knit both together^.
See link to video on the last page.
Finish row and repeat every wrap from ^ to ^.
43. R: Purl all sts until getting to the wrap.
°Put your needletip into the wrap from back to
front (like a twisted purl) and put on the left
needle. Knit wrap and stitch together°.
See link to video on the last page.
Finish row and repeat every wrap from ^ to ^.
→ Fold at purl row (row 21) and put both purl
sides together.
44. R: Now take one stitch from your needle and
one from the cast on and knith both together.
Repeat for all stitches.
Cuff is now finished. Cut off yarn.
Main pattern
Change to light blue / Himmelblau:
45. R: Purl all sts.
46. R: *k 1, p 1, k 1, p 13* repeat ** to the end.
47.-49. R: Knit all sts as they appear. Cut off yarn.
Pattern
Switch to color terracotta.
50. R: Knit all sts.
51. R: k 6 *p 1, k 1, p 1, k 13* repat 2x and end with
p 1, k 1, p 1, k 7.
52.-54. R: Knit all sts as they appear. Cut off yarn.
Switch to color peach and begin to decrease.
55.-56. R: Like row 45 and 46.
57. R: Knit all sts as they appear, but on each
pattern repeat you knit 2 together for two times
(inside the 13 stocking st). You have 8 sts a row
less. Remaining: 56 st
58.-59. R: Knit all sts as they appear. Cut off yarn.
Switch to color white or natural and conitnue
decreasing:
60. R: Knit all sts.
61.R: Similar to row 51, but decrease once before
the first pattern repeat (k2tog). Decrease twice in
the next 3 pattern repeats. After the last pattern
repeat decrease once = 48 st.
62. R: This row and ALL the next even rows (up to
row 70) knit all st as they appear.
63. R: Like row 61, but decrease twice inside the 9
knitted sts = 40 sts.
65. R: Like row 61, only decrease twice inside the 7
knitted sts = 32 sts.
67. R: Like row 61, but decrease twice inside the 5
knitted sts = 24 sts.
69. R: Like row 61, but decrease once inside the 3
knitted sts = 20 sts.
71. R: Like row 61, but decrease once inside the 2
knitted sts = 16 sts.
72. R: K2tog until end of the row = 8 sts.
Finishing
Cut off yarn leaving a tail long enough to sew it
close.
Thread through remaining sts, pull tight and seam
the edges with the mattress stich side-to-side
together.
!!! If you want to insert an elastic band, you should
do it before sewing , when the cuff opening is still
accessible !!!
Now you can ad a pompon in your desired size and
sew it to the top of the hat.
DONE!
