A class where building it is only half the fun and testing your creations is the REAL FUN! Not only will we be building and testing structures with blocks, Legos, and ZOME, we will also hold the first Rube Goldberg Machine Contest! Don’t know who Rube Goldberg is? Come discover what it means to move through elements of space, shape and time, while exploring the classical genres of dance in this unique twist. With a special combination of creative movement and student choreography, Just Dance will inspire you to reach above, beyond, in and out of the box of what it means to perform. No experience needed! Fit with a phenomenal finale, by the end of this class you won’t just think you can dance….you’ll know! *Students are required to bring one pair of white tube or knee-high socks. Brain Waves Brain Waves is a celebration of all things “puzzling”, and we’re not talking jigsaw. You will get to take a whack at Japanese puzzle boxes, metal puzzles, advanced Rubiks Cubes, Sodoku, riddles, optical illusions and more. We will construct massive geometric structures out of plastic snake parts, balloons and even vegetables! Grossology Warning! This science class is not for the squeamish! Learn all about some of the most disgusting things in our world. From creepy crawlers like cockroaches, worms and germs to the ickiest things about our own bodies like snot, gas, skin and hair. You will be dying to know all the nastiness and will learn a lot along the way. Stick Games Have you ever wanted to hit a ball through a wicket with a mallet? How about smack a puck during an intense face off? Or maybe hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th? If you answered yes, this is the class to “stick” with! In this class, you will be introduced to the fundamentals of stick sports such as lacrosse, croquet and baseball. Along with these stick sport basics, this cool class will also include team challenges, stick skill work and silly stick antics. * Bat, glove and ball cap recommended. Art through the Decades Travel through time with a professional artist through the world of art in Art Through the Decades. Come explore various key points in art’s past, present and future. Learn amazing techniques and historical art knowledge while creating amazing art of your own. Your finished product will reflect the styles of the art world masters such as Andy Warhol, Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Klee and many more! Ninja Science Want to be a Ninja when you grow up?! Big problem... there are NO Ninja schools! So, we’re making one. Now, we couldn’t find an actual Ninja to teach it so we’re making everything up. This class will include elements of Parkour (street acrobatics), secret missions (sssshhhhhh), a little Ninja history, tools/weaponry and a whole lot of Bruce Lee. Don’t tell anyone. *Athletic shoes required everyday. In order for this to happen, behavior must be excellent and not interfere with the learning process of others. If a student does not follow the classroom rules and becomes a hindrance to others, he/she will be removed from the class and no refunds given. STAR reserves the right to refuse service to anyone. STAR Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit educational enrichment program that was selected by the White House and U.S. Department of Education as a “MODEL PROGRAM” for the United States. STAR Education is the largest provider of Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) in the State of California and is a supplemental Education Service provider through the California Department of Education. STAR Inc. is the parent organization of the international award-winning STAR ECO Station Environmental Children’s Museum and Exotic Wildlife Rescue Facility located in Rocklin and Culver City California. PROGRAM POLICIES Consent to Photograph During the STAR NOVA program, your child may be video taped and/or photographed. These images along with your child’s name may be used for reproduction and/or sale in any medium for the purpose of advertisement, trade, display, exhibition, educational use and/or training. ABSENCES: Because our expenses are fixed we cannot give credit, there are no makeup days or refunds for the absence of your child. SIGN IN & OUT PROCEDURES: STAR NOVA does not require students to be signed in or out of class. Guardians are responsible for getting their student(s) to class on time and to be picked up on time. Students will be released after class. By signing below, guardians take responsibility for their student’s safety once the class has been released. Children are not allowed to be driven or taken to their home by STAR staff. STAR staff may not baby-sit any STAR child. Please contact the STAR teacher or the STAR Administrative Office (916-632-8417) if your child will be absent from class. A $1 per minute late fee applies to late pick-ups. PAYMENTS: Payment of registration is due upon enrollment. Your child will not be able to attend class until payment is received. You will be charged for scheduled days regardless of your student’s attendance or school holiday schedule. Returned checks will be charged $25 and handled pursuant to California Civil Code Section 1719. STAR reserves the right to increase fees with a 30 written notice. If families are experiencing financial hardship, please contact the STAR Administrative office to create a payment schedule. STAR NOVA will make every reasonable effort to work with families regarding payment. CANCELLATION OF REGISTRATION: STAR requires a two week written notice to cancel registration during which time your enrollment will remain active and you will remain financially responsible regardless of your child’s attendance.
