E-Commerce Trends That Support Brick and Mortar Retailing
In today’s ever-changing economic environment, both retailers
and landlords are concerned about the effects that e-commerce will
have on their business going forward. Will the growth of internet
shopping curtail future retail development and the overall health
of the shopping centre industry? Many leading retail experts
don’t think so and the collective thought is that online shopping
and physical stores can continue to grow in unison to satisfy both
consumers needs and immediate wants.
This business session will look at e-commerce trends as they relate
to brick and mortar and what effects they have had to date on the
shopping centre industry and what to expect in the future. The
discussion by our expert industry panel members will provide
knowledgeable insight and current examples about how they see
the convergence of online shopping and the physical store and
how they will work together on a symbiotic basis in the future. We
will explore trends like why “show rooming” for retailers is not
necessarily a bad thing, what recent effects e-commerce has had on
store square footage and how retailers are encouraging customers to
shop online but still make the journey to the their store to fulfill the
overall shopping experience.
