Church Ministries and Guilds
Acolytes
Our young people are called to be crucifers,
torchbearers and gospel book carriers. It is an
exciting way to start serving God's church. If you
are interested, contact the Acolyte Mother, Connie
Graham (979-0921) or Director of Christian Faith
Formation, Beth Monroe (237-3459).
Altar Guild
Altar guild members are the "housekeepers" of all
that is used in our services in the church. They
keep all vessels and adornments clean and
polished and also make sure the hangings and
linens are cleaned and pressed. Altar Guild
changes the hangings, linen, puts out the vessels
and fills the candles for all services that are held.
All is done with love and respect for our Lord and
Savior.
This important ministry prepares for each service
at Holy Cross Faith Memorial. If you would like to
be a part of this important service please contact
Sue Osborne, chairperson of the Altar Guild at

Choir
The HCFM Choir isn't just a ministry to our
parishioners, we also minister to each other as we
join in song each Sunday. We enjoy a great
fellowship, prepare a variety of musical
selections, and strive to enhance worship in the
Episcopal tradition. From the beginning of June
through mid July, we rehearse on Sunday
mornings at 9:30am. Weeknight rehearsals will
resume on Thursday July 26, 2012 at 6:30pm. We
invite all who enjoy singing from age 12 and up to

Ministries and Guilds
Children & Youth
Holy Cross Faith Memorial offers a growing list of
youth programs to engage all your young family
members. Faith formation prepares our children
and young people to receive the word of God.
Figuring out how to respond is often more
difficult since there is more than one way to
respond to God. The Dept. of Faith Formation
utilizes programs that tell the stories of our faith
and where/how we fit in as we explore, together,
ways to respond when God calls us.
Episcopal Church Woman
The ECW is a national organization of the women
of the church in this country and abroad and it is
centered in parish and mission congregations.
Our women do work in outreach and in ministry.
Joint meetings of the women of the church are
held twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall.
Existing Committees include: United Thank
Offering, Church Periodical Club, Spiritual Life,
Mission & Ministry at Home, Mission & Ministry in
the World, Christian Education, Bible Studies,
Altar Guild, Flower Guild, Daughters of the King,
Prayer Quilt Mininstry and several annual
committees that help with the Annual Bazaar.
Women of the church are encouraged to work

Flower Guild
The Flower Guild duties involve planning the
design of the Sunday altar flowers, their purchase
and the execution of the design. In addition to
the usual Sunday flowers, we do more elaborate
designs at Christmas and Easter. If you are
talented with flower arranging, or would like to be,
consider joining the Flower Guild. Margie Barron
(237-1807) is the chairperson for this worship
enhancing ministry.
Ministries and Guilds
Hospitality Committee
This ministry is committed to promoting
Hospitality in our parish and promoting stronger
development of “community” in our church
family. We are also committed, to the best of our
ability, to be as "green" as possible. We will try to
use fewer disposable products which means we
will need your help even more. Each “meal” type
event we will use our dinnerware and flatware.
We need people to volunteer to help load and
unload the dishwasher, put dishes away, launder
tablecloths, etc. Remember “Many hands make
light work”. When you are called upon to serve
please consider the importance of this vital
ministry. If you would like to be a member of the
Hospitality Ministry Team, please call or email the

Lay Eucharistic Ministry
Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained by the clergy
and licensed by the Diocese to take Communion
to the homes or hospital beds for those who are
infirmed. For information about the Lay
Eucharistic Ministry, please contact The Rev. Alex
Barron at 237-3459.
Layreaders
The Layreader Guild participates in all of the
worship services during the Church year by
reading the Lessons for the week or by leading
the Prayers of the People. If you are interested in
contributing your time and talent to the Layreader
Guild, please contact Amy Webb at

Ministries and Guilds
Shepherding Ministry
Active since 2007, the expansion of the
Shepherding Ministry reflects the growth of our
parish. In order to meet the increasing needs
effectively and efficiently, we ask parish members
to serve parishioners in various ways: a phone
call; a visit at home or the hospital; transportation
to a medical appointment, the pharmacy, or
grocery store; or a meal. The goal of Shepherding
is to be there during a time when a congregant
needs concrete, short-term support. If you know
someone who needs these services, please let the
Rector, the Deacon, or the Parish Administrator
know by calling 237-3459. To join this vital

Stephen Ministry
The Stephen Series from Stephen Ministries is
designed to train and organize lay people to
provide one-on-one Christian care to hurting
people in and around our congregation. People
who need support receive quality, Christ-centered
confidential care from a Stephen Minister who
has been highly trained to help those going
through a difficult time find hope, healing and a
new sense of self-worth. Stephen Ministers
discover, cultivate and use the spiritual gifts with
which they have been blessed and experience the
joy of seeing God work through them in another’s
life as they hone and practice the skills they learn.
Care Receivers will grow in a deeper relationship
with their Lord as they experience God’s
unconditional love for them through the care of
their Stephen Minister.
The joy of helping others is the privilege and
responsibility of all Christians. Using our
God-given gifts in the service of others builds up
the church and the community (1 Corinthians 12:7
– 11). If you are interested in learning more about

Outreach
Smith Medical Clinic
The Smith Medical Clinic was opened in 1985 by
Dr. Cathcart Smith and his wife, Nancy, following
his retirement from private practice in Conway,
SC. Under Dr. Smith's direction, the clinic met the
needs of the underserved by providing medical
care free of charge. The Clinic's mission has
remained the same: to care for the medically
underserved in and around the Waccamaw Neck.
The Clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday
through Thursday and on Thursday evenings
from 5:30 to 7:30. For more information, please

St. Elizabeth Place Apartments
This independent living community provides
housing for persons aged 62+. The community
consists of 48 ground floor apartments in twelve
quadruplex buildings. Amenities include on-site
laundry facilities, mail service, rubbish disposal,
maintenance & management, a
community/activity center, picnic area and
supportive services to help tenants maintain their
independence. Living in the St. Elizabeth Place
community is made affordable through assistance
from the US Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD). Heads of household must
meet HUD income eligibility requirements to be
eligible for tenancy. For more information about

The Prayer Quilt Ministry
The Prayer Quilt ministry is busy on Tuesdays
from 9am-12:30pm making quilts for various
individuals who need our prayers. Our quilts
have gone to men, women and children -- not all
in our congregation. Some have gone to people
in the local community, some to friends and loved
ones far away - even as far as Ecuador! It is not
necessary to be a "quilter" to be a part of this
wonderful ministry. There are many ways to help
and much fun and camaraderie to be enjoyed.

Outreach
Baskervill Food Pantry
The Baskervill Food Pantry is located in the Smith
Medical Clinic and is open to people and families
in need or in crisis to offer a helping "hand-up",
not a "hand-out", to help reduce the number of
families affected by hunger in our community.
Families and individuals fed through the ministry
of the Food Pantry are treated with dignity and
respect. The Food Pantry ministry is an
inter-denominational effort, supported by local
civic organizations, area churches and
individuals. The Baskervill Food Pantry is open
from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday thruough
Thursday and on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to
7:30, to anyone in need, regardless of where they
are from or what religious affiliation, if any, they

The Hispanic Outreach Ministry
Members of this ministry assist individuals in our
local community with English instruction, they
help translate for medical and legal needs, as well
as advocate for individuals and groups. Spanish
instruction is also available through laptop
computers and Rosetta Stone software. Globally,
HCFM continues to honor the Diocesan
partnership with the Dominican Republic. Yearly
mission trips have strengthened and enriched our
relationship with the people of 'La Barquita'.
Mission travelers have worked on construction of
the new church building for La Iglesia de San
Pedro y San Pablo and have conducted a
Vacation Bible School for the children of the
