In 2004, the Sensible Hospitality Collection of charming and truly extraordinary hotels
was put together. Having had a distinguished career in the management of luxury and
striking boutique hotels and resorts for twenty years, Thomas Tritschler eventually set
up his own dream of working with beautiful and unique hotels. He not only created a
boutique consultancy company for upscale and privately owned hotels, but he also
formed the Sensible Hospitality Collection.
At Sensible Hospitality we strive to find and work with hotels that really feel and share our
passion for the authenticity of genuine hospitality. Hotels that are independent, often family
owned and run with a wealth of experience in providing memories to last a lifetime.
All hotels have in common a warmth of service and ambience, normally not found at larger
properties. The owners are usually on site, welcoming their guests and offering their advice
and wealth of local knowledge.
What sets Sensible Hospitality apart is the focus on providing a large range of experiences.
From being exposed to the finest gastronomic adventures, to being immersed in local artisan
and heritage to UNESCSO cultural visits at some hotels in this brochure - this is simply the
beginning of much more to explore.
SENSIBLE HOSPITALITY. Explore. Enjoy. Experience.

elegant four storey Queen Anne townhouse built in 1717. David is an internationally acclaimed

Borgo di Bastia Creti
Umbertide, Umbria / Italy
Borgo di Bastia Creti is an elegant hamlet set high up in the hills in northern Umbria with
glorious views over wooden hills, cornfields and olive groves – providing complete and absolute
privacy. The individual properties offer the fantastic opportunity of taking over the whole
hamlet for exclusive use.
Several of the original dwellings, now individual cottages in the gardens or large apartments
adjacent to the courtyard of the hamlet, offer very spacious accommodation decorated in
elegant, classic country style. Decorative tiles, some of them antiques, have been used in the
large kitchens and open fireplaces provide a focal point in the sitting rooms. Each bedroom has
beautifully appointed, spacious en suite facilities and every property has wonderful views.

Corral del Rey

Located in the centre of Seville in the old quarter of Barrio Alfalfa just five minutes from the
Cathedral, the original 17th Century Casa Palacio has been meticulously restored and converted
into a small private luxury boutique hotel, offering chic accommodation with a relaxed cafe/bar
and private dining facilities. The architectural highlights include the atrium patio, Roman marble
columns and the original wooden carved detailing.
The bedrooms are divided into four categories; superior, deluxe, junior suite and penthouse
suite. Each room has its own creative design in which interior designer Kuky Mora-Figueroa has
stamped her individual and particularly appealing style, combining an eclectic mix of ancient
and modern. Guests will love the rooftop terrace with plunge pool and the extended mirador
where one can relax with a glass of wine and some tapas whilst enjoying the spectacular views
of the Cathedral and Giralda tower.

Seville / Spain
Hacienda de San Rafael is situated in the South Western part of Andalucia with the historic city
of Seville to the north and Jerez with its sherry bodegas and dancing horses to the south.
Eastwards is the Sierra de Cadiz where the famous white villages lie. The rugged hills of the sierra
are densely wooded with pine trees and cork oaks. Here, clinging precariously to the edges of
deep river gorges or perched on rocky cliffs, are a series of fascinating fortified towns known
simply as “los pueblos blancos” the white villages.
Every year the villagers white wash their houses creating an amazing contrast with the flower
filled streets. They still bear the imprint of their defensive function in the 13th to 15th centuries,
with ruined fortifications and walls, demarcating the former frontier (frontera) of the Christian
and Muslim kingdoms. The parkland surrounding many of the villages is home to mountain
goat, red deer and wild boar and in the skies above one can often see griffon vultures as well as
golden, booted and short-toed eagles. It´s a great area for touring or hiking and there are plenty
of great places we can recommend for lunch stops.

Hotel Castell
Zuoz, St. Moritz / Switzerland
Hotel Castell is located high above Zuoz in the Upper Engadine close to St. Moritz. The hotel
combines the charm of a historic grand hotel with modern architecture and design. The nostalgic
dining room, the contemporary art collection, the Red Bar of Pipilotti Rist along with the fabulous
hammam by UN Studio and the rock water sauna designed by Tadashi Kawamata all add to the
distinctive charm of the renowned hotel.
Other outstanding features include the sophisticated gastronomy, direct access to the m
 ountain
world and professional childcare. A great place for skiing, hiking and biking. Art is a living, integrated element at the Castell. Indeed, the Castell is almost a piece of art in itself. The Castell is home
to a renowned collection of contemporary art including works by Roman Signer, Fischli-Weiss,
Pipilotti Rist, Carsten Höller, Martin Kippenberger and many others. In close liaison with the artists
themselves, the hotel provides an impressive backdrop for artistic structures and other initiatives.
Most spectacular by far is the walk-in space installation “Skyspace, Piz Uter” by James Turrell.

Hotel Louis C. Jacob
Hamburg / Germany

owned luxury hotel provides the atmosphere otherwise only created for good friends. Guests to

the city of Hamburg – charming and with a serene Hanseatic appeal. A genuine piece of Hamburg.
With a stunning view of the Elbe. And from this distinguished member of The Leading Hotels of the
World, guests can expect the very best.
Rooms and suites are equipped with elegant wood flooring, handknitted carpets, walkin closets
and natural stone baths. Gourmets will appreciate the Jacobs Restaurant – which has been awarded
two Michelin stars to recognise the excellent cuisine of Executive Chef Thomas Martin, a mix of contemporary light and fresh, with a French accent – imaginative and refined, but without all the “bells
and whistles”. The incomparable world of Louis C. Jacob already inspired Max Liebermann, whose
famous oil painting of the terrace is the highlight of Jacob’s private collection.

Hotel Petronilla
Bergamo / Italy
The new, the old and the modern. Three periods that blend in the harmonious link between the
old and the new, reflecting a modern lifestyle. Rooms, each different from the other, rooms in a
“palazzo”, the house in its environment, the environment in a beautiful city. The hospitality and
courtesy of our tradition with the efficiency of the present day. The warmth and friendliness of
Italian hospitality: Hotel Petronilla, in the heart of Bergamo, welcomes its guests in an elegant,
refined environment.

Villa Cordevigo Wine Relais
Lago di Garda / Italy
Villa Cordevigo Wine Relais is a fine example of historical residence typical of the Veneto region,
an extraordinary heritage site in itself. Built on the site of a Renaissance palace in the 1700’s in
the sumptuous style of the times, over the centuries it has been the property of a number of
noble families. In the 1500’s it was owned by the wealthy Verona family, who acquired both the
whole estate and the rights to the vicarship.
When the Delibori and Cristoforetti families acquired the estate in 2002, they also bought the
wine and olive estate. After ambitious restoration over a number of years, the nature and soul
of the Villa were preserved while turning it into a superb country hotel with a wealth of art and
history. The 18th century Venetian Villa with formal Italian gardens and an age-old park which
has been entirely refurbished as a 5 star hotel with its Michelin starred Oseleta Restaurant. The
spectacular entrance along a drive flanked with tall cypresses leads to the Relais itself with its
olive groves and woods, a 100 hectare estate on the hills of Cavaion Veronese above Lake Garda
and just a few kilometres from the famous city of Verona.
