Oversaw data collection and analysis. Why I love being a Finger Lakes H ealth Nurse... I work at FLH because I feel prou d to serve the community in which I live. My iliar face when their loved ones ar e sick. FLH has also provided me with a flexib le schedule in which to raise my children and have the ability to attend their sch ool functions. And I love living clo se enough to ride my bike to work!! Why I got into nursing...I wa s fascinated with anatomy and ph ysiology. I also loved the emotional impact nurse s have on patients lives and how it affects recovery from illness. Nursing is an art and a science. I meet familie s on what seems to be the worst day of their lives and if I can somehow make that day better, I have achieved something. I was able to attend two Nationa l Critical Care Conferences and ob tain critical care certification with tuition sup port/organizational training fro m FLH. patients take comfort seeing a fam Ann began her career at FLHealth in 1983 as a Marian S Whelan School and worked in pediatrics and OB before moving to Maryland. Returned to FLHealth in 1996 and has worked in the ICU for 15 years!!! Achieved CCRN status in 2010. I can’t imagine working any place else that long!! People here are alway s kind, supportive, friendly and caring. Why I went into nursing...Ba ck then there were limited choices for career paths. Nurses, teachers, sec retaries...I like people. Helping the m in the littlest ways brings a lot of perso nal satisfaction. Career Path...CNA in Geneva Living Centers, I met the daughter of a patient there who was personal friends with Marion S. Whelan - she helpe d me get into the LPN program. Eventually we nt on for RN at FLCC, then to Ke uka for BSN. Worked as staff nurse, Clinical Co ordinator, and currently Nurse Manager of 2 West. Daryl has been a nurse for 37 years-SO FAR!!! She is the “go to “ person for technology advances like Electronic Med administration record, and Computer physician order entry. MS What I love about being a Fi nger Lakes Health Nurse...We have the best rehab program and I love hands on work with patients. I was able to get my BSN in 2009 and MS in 2010 with tuition supp ort and flexible scheduling. Why I went into nursing...I became a nurse to make a difference in people’s lives. Why I went into nursing...”Be cause I care about people and want to help those in need.” Career Path...Diana started as a home health aide, then went on to work as a hospital nurse, sc hool nurse, a BOCES Instructor and a summer school nurse for children with physical disabilities. Therapeutic communication has always been a part of psychiatric nursing. -There is a charge nurse on each shift, the nurses also all take an assignment as well as the charge nurse role. -Last year we had 335 admissions and our average length of stay was 5.6 days. -Patient satisfaction survey results show 100% satisfaction with nursing care for 2010. -We have been restraint free for almost 24 months -Unit RN Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) instructor which helped eliminate restraint use. I was able to work as a CNA, then at FLH as an EKG tech, I was accepted into the MSW LPN program, and then the FLH College of Nursing. What I love about being a Fi nger Lakes Health Nurse...I really appreciate wha t I have accomplished in my 5 years at Finger Lakes Health . My LPN and last year my RN Degree. Thanks to many at FLH for this experience!! Why I went into nursing...A s long as I can remember I had the passion and compassion to help others. Career Path...Jackie was a Cand y Striper at ag e 14. I was with my best friend at her mother’s sid e when she was taking her last brea th and at that very moment I reali zed what, until then, I had been deny ing. Having seen the caring ways the nurses took with her was the light that ignited my passion and awok e the one thing that lay asleep inside me for all those years. The journ ey was over! What I searched for wa s finally found-the career that wo uld drive me to where I am today. Be ing a nurse was what I was born to be, and I would not change it for an ything in this world!! When I was a junior in high school trying to decide what career choice I wante d, I had several family members become ill and die. I felt helpless. It was at that time that I decided to become a nurse. Special projects/committees: Started patient safety committee and act as resource regarding patient safety in Radiology.
