In the wake of that shocking event, our nation and the world watched a powerful Christian witness, as family member after family member of those who were senselessly murdered forgave Dylann Roof and prayed that God would have mercy on his soul. In light of these shocking events, I want to share with you a letter written to a man on death row by the father of the man who was killed. “You are probably surprised that I, of all people, am writing a letter to you, but I ask you to read it in its entirety and consider its request seriously. As the Father of the man whom you took part in murdering, I have something very important to say to you. I forgive you. With all my heart, I forgive you. I realize it may be hard for you to believe, but I really do. At your trial, when you confessed to your part in the events that cost my Son his life and asked for my forgiveness, I immediately granted you that forgiving love from my heart. I can only hope you believe me and will accept my forgiveness. But this is not all I have to say to you. I want to make you an offer — I want you to become my adopted child. You see, my Son who died was my only child, and I now want to share my life with you and leave my riches to you. This may not make sense to you or anyone else, but I believe you are worth the offer. I have arranged matters so that if you will receive my offer of forgiveness, not only will you be pardoned for your crime, but you also will be set free from your imprisonment, and your sentence of death will be dismissed. At that point, you will become my adopted child and heir to all my riches. I realize this is a risky offer for me to make to you — you might be tempted to reject my offer completely — but I make it to you without reservation. Also, I realize it may seem foolish to make such an offer to one who cost my Son his life, but I now have a great love and an unchangeable forgiveness in my heart for you. Page 2 The Scroll Finally, you may be concerned that once you accept my offer you may do something to cause you to be denied your rights as an heir to my wealth. Nothing could be further from the truth. If I can forgive you for your part in my Son’s death, I can forgive you for anything. I know you never will be perfect, but you do not have to be perfect to receive my offer. Besides, I believe that once you have accepted my offer and begin to experience the riches that will come to you from me, that your primary (though not always) response will be gratitude and loyalty. Some would call me foolish for my offer to you, but I wish for you to call me your Father.” Sincerely, The Father of Jesus ________________________________________________________________________________________ JR Camp Week July 12th - 16th-Ashley Dickson, Mark Kate Dickson, and Angelica Discovery Camp Week July 19th – 22nd-John Dickson & Will Graham Please do not forget to send them cards during the week for encouragement. As we prepare to step from this world into the next, our last will and testament makes an important statement about what we have valued most in life. If you value God’s gift of Jesus Christ, if you value Christ’s church, the body of Christ that carries on Christ’s ministry in this world, remember Christ and His church in your will. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Mark your calendars for September 27th ! Page 7 The Scroll Lord’s Pantry Report NIBBLES from the FOOD ROOM...... All those plastic bags that everyone has been faithfully bringing in are greatly appreciated, BUT we seem to be overrun with them right now! That is in part thanks to Paul Crass securing several boxes of them for us, along with tons of food, from the Post Office food drive in May. Keep those coupons coming, though, as they are always needed, and our "coupon lady" (aka Mrs. Gibbs) seems to work magic with them! Thank you for all your support of the food room. Mickey & Yvonne ____________________________________________________________________________ Card Ministries Betty Jo Hancock had taken care of the card ministry for many years. Since Betty Jo Hancock has passed away, we are looking for someone to take over the card ministry starting in August. The person would send out birthday and anniversary cards every month to our members. You will be provided with the cards, stamps, and address. If you are interested in taking over the card ministry then please let Amanda know. Page 14 The Scroll A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR MINISTRY It has come to our attention that a number of our members are not in church, because they lack transportation; they would like to join us in worship, but they need a ride. If you would be willing to pick up a member of our congregation -- on a rotating basis -- and bring them to church, please let our church secretary, Amanda, or Pastor Craig know. Here are the people who are willing to pick up; Talor & Faith, Eric & Shannon Allen, Lana Sperry, Virgil Piveral, and Nancy & Rise _____________________________________________________ Building Improvement Meeting Wednesday July 8th at 5:00 p.m. Property/Building Improvement Jeff Taylor-Chair Peter Huff Wally Crow-Elder Jim Fry Brown Harvey John Crow Virgil Piveral Jim Darke Wayne Winningham Leslie Henson Mary Nell Wooten Lana Sperry Page 14 The Scroll In Loving Memory of Ernest “Tubb” Jarrell Frances Sumner Leslie & Dennis Henson Jerry & Anne Clark Bob & Wanda Gooch William Shelton Brown & Bettie Harvey ED & Sherrie Pennington Paul Crass David & Nina Baker Louise Cook Clint & Janet Arbogast Wanda & Paul Peavy Shirley Bailey Mary Lou & Virgil Piveral James & Mary Simmons Curtis & Laura Phipps Dorothy “Dot” Smith Rob & Phyllis Hunt James Tucker Jr. Lunch Brunch Sisters Charles & Barbara Morgan Kenneth & Dennis Baxter Arthur & Mary Nell Woodall Edgar & Kathleen Woodall David & Karen Stine David & Pam Lee Lora & JC Whitney Willard Ross Family Mary Nell Wooten Joyce Coke Martha & Wayne Winningham Bill Harris James & Nancy Hancock Ulrike Vaughn Yvonne & Wally Crow James & Carolyn (Wooten) Lewis Joann & Marty Darnell David & Kathryn Chesney Wendell & Nancy Wolff Dorotha & Virgil Parrott James & Evelyn Vicks Janice & Tony Martin Karen & Mark Hodges Keith & Diane Sperry Dee White Thomas & Judy Jarrell Bob & Mickey Faires Jim & Judy Darke William & Mary Ann Brandon Joyce & Stanley Hall Janet Mosley Judy Warren Bill & Rose Lyle Kenneth & Anita Kirby Mr. & Mrs. Charles Keene Richard & Linda Hooper Emily Bellamy Cecil & David Morgan Page 14 The Scroll In Loving Memory of Betty Jo Hancock Brown & Bettie Harvey Wanda & Paul Peavy Mary Lou & Virgil Piveral Keith & Diane Sperry Joann & Marty Darnell Clarksville Assn of Realtors James & Evelyn Vicks Karen & Mark Hodges Dee White Bob & Mickey Faires Bill & Rose Lyle William & Mary Ann Brandon Kenneth & Anita Kirby Joyce & Stanley Hall Mr. & Mrs. Charles Keene Riley & Pat Martin Janet Mosley Judy Warren Frances Sumner David & Susan Elliott Dorothy Darke Emily Bellamy David & Nina Baker Clint & Janet Arbogast Jerry & Anne Clark Lunch Brunch Sisters Betty & Marcus McClain In Loving Memory of Marie Zachry Lora & J.C.
