Installation Components Needed
Check the packaging to be sure you have all the components needed to install your shade. Keep
the packaging until the shades perform to your satisfaction.
Required Components
 Installation Brackets for Standard Shades. The standard
installation brackets are supplied in pairs. One is used for the
clutch side and the other for the rotator side of the shade.
 Optional: bracket cover for outside mount
Getting Started
1
 Universal Cord Tensioner (UCT) Installation Kit. The
UCT functions as a safety device that makes the cords less
accessible to children and pets. The cord control will only
function properly if the UCT is installed correctly.
tions
 Hold-Down Brackets. Hold-down brackets provide stability and
prevent swaying by securing the bottom bar (i.e. often used in French
door applications).
Hold-Down
Bracket
(Optional)
Tools and Fasteners Needed
 #6 Robertson and Phillips screwdriver
 Measuring tape and pencil
 Level
 Power drill, 3∕32" drill bit,
Phillips or #6 Robertson screws
In addition, you will need fasteners designed to work with your specific mounting surface(s).
 Longer Hex Head Screws (Not Provided). If using spacer blocks, use a #6 screw long

Troubleshooting
PROBLEM
SOLUTION
The shade raises or
lowers unevenly.
 Check that the installation brackets are level and aligned. Shim
the brackets, if necessary.
The shade will not
raise.
 If the hold-down brackets have been used, make sure they
have been released.
The universal cord
tensioner has climbed
to the top of the
shade.
 Pull down on the spring to relieve tension and pull the universal
cord tensioner to the bottom of the cord loop. Properly mount
the cord tensioner. See Universal Cord Tensioner Installation
Instructions in the kit included with your shade.
The universal cord
tensioner grabs
onto the cord upon
operation.
The shade fabric
winds unevenly on
the roll.
 Check that the universal cord tensioner is mounted properly.
Reinstall, if necessary. See the Universal Cord Tensioner
Installation Instructions that came with your Cord Tensioner Kit.
 Check that the shade is level.
 Using the beaded cord loop, completely lower the roller shade.
•
If the fabric winds unevenly and begins to telescope to
one side, check to insure that the shade is level.
•
If the shade is not level, remove it from the installation
brackets and shim or re-install the brackets, as
necessary.
IMPORTANT: If the shade was unrolled before being installed, it
may not raise and lower to the right points.
To correct this:
 Remove the shade from the mounting brackets.
 Roll the shade up until the bottom rod is even with the bottom
of the clutch.
 Re-install the shade.
Troubleshooting

Care and Maintenance:
Dusting: Regular light dusting with a feather duster is all the cleaning that is needed in most
circumstances.
Vacuuming: Use the soft brush head of the vacuum cleaner on low setting for a more thorough
dust removal.
Spot Cleaning:
•
•
•
•
Prepare a solution of lukewarm water and mild detergent if needed.
Dampen a clean cloth or towel in the solution and wring thoroughly.
Dab the spot with the dampened cloth until spot is removed. Do not rub or soak the fabric.
Allow the shade to dry in completely lowered position.
Spot-cleaning may result in cleaner areas.
Notes: Certain light fabrics (e.g. concepts) should not be vacuumed or spot-cleaned.
CHILD SAFETY
! WARNING
For more safety information
call 1-866-662-0666 or go to
www.healthcanada.gc.ca/blindcords
Young children can STRANGLE in cord loops. They can also wrap cords around their necks and
STRANGLE.
 Always keep cords out of the reach of children.
 Move cribs, playpens and other furniture away from cords. Children climb furniture to get
to cords.
Cord Loop Shades
 Attach the cord tensioner on the cord loop to the wall or
window casement. This can prevent children from pulling cord
loops around their necks.
 Shade-O-Matic provides a cord tensioner installation kit with
instructions for attaching the cord tensioner. For the shade
to operate properly, the cord tensioner must be correctly
mounted and secured. See The Universal Cord Tensioner
(UCT) Instruction provided for details.
