Simon Ong spearheads the Group’s strategic planning, creative standards and its day-to-day
management. He is one of two founders of the group and has contributed significantly to
its growth. He is currently Chairman of the design cluster in the Manpower, Skills & Training
Council of WDA and a member of the advisory board to the Design Business Chamber of
Singapore, Interior Designers Confederation of Singapore and Singapore Furniture Industries
Council (Design). Mr. Ong is also an IDP member of the DesignSingapore Council and a
former board member of the Association of Retail Environments (USA).

Jeffrey Ho
Executive Director
DesignSingapore Council.
Mr Jeffrey Ho joined the DesignSingapore Council in 2009. As the Executive Director,
he leads the national agency for design in Singapore by charting national policies on
design, developing design capabilities, and enabling enterprises to use design for
innovation and growth.
Jeffrey is the chairman of the Design Industry Development Panel and the founding
executive director of the National Design Centre in Singapore.
Currently, he is a member of the Shanghai International Creative City Advisory Board (for a two-year term
2014-2016). He sat on the International Strategic Advisory Council of IFI (International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers) and
was a board member of the 2011-2013 Icograda (International Council of Graphic Design Associations) Executive Board.

Prior to helming the DesignSingapore Council, Jeffrey founded the School of Design at the Singapore Polytechnic in 2004. He was
instrumental in incorporating design thinking into the curriculum of the entire polytechnic.
He is appointed an Adjunct Associate Professor for Design Thinking at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Singapore.
He is also a practising visual artist.

Cultural, Design and Architectural Activities include:
“The welcoming hand of Singapore,” by Safdie Architects, the design of the Museum is
composed of two principle parts. The base, which is embedded in the earth and surrounded
by the Bay’s water and a giant lily pond and a flower-like structure made of 10 petals,
generated by the geometry of spheroids of varying radii that seemingly floats above the
landscaped pond base. The petals, or fingers as some refer to them, rise towards the sky
with varying heights, each crowned by a skylight which draws in daylight penetrating the

Gardens by the Bay is a huge, colourful, futuristic park in the bay area of Singapore. We will
take a walk 72 feet above ground at the Supertrees vertical gardens and marvel at the world’s

WEDNESDAY MAY 18TH - OPTIONAL PROGRAMME DAY ACTIVITIES:
Explore Singapore’s traditional Chinese quarters with a Red Dot Design district walking tour
including Chinatown, with its colourful restored Peranakan shop-houses full of strange little
shops selling everything from plastic Buddhas to dried seahorses. The cramped five-foot alleys
are bustling relics of Chinatown’s past. More than restored shops and ethnic places of worship
such as the old Hokkien Temple, Thian Hock Keng, Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple and James
Mosque, it’s a haven for hawker food lovers (traditional Singapore street food).
THURSDAY MAY 19TH - OPTIONAL PROGRAMME DAY ACTIVITIES:

The National Museum of Singapore is an iconic cultural and architectural landmark bringing together the old and the new on one single site. With history dating back to its
inception 1887, the elegant neo-classical National Museum building is seamlessly joined

As the Founder and Managing Director of the retail design consultancy RCD, Stewart has been
involved in the planning and design of travel retail environments since the early nineties, working
worldwide from Hong Kong to the U.S.A. As a consultant to Dubai Duty Free since 1997 (initially
as Managing Director with Portland Design in London), he has been part of the explosive growth
witnessed in the travel retail sector in the Gulf and has worked closely with the Dubai Duty Free team
in evolving the retail environment and offers airport authorities an understanding of the retailer and
shopper needs, following its experience with the award-winning retailer.
With several years’ experience working with Dubai Duty Free’s senior management team, RCD was
appointed by the Department of Civil Aviation Authority to carry out design of Concourse A, B, D and
Terminal 3. In total, RCD has been responsible for the design and execution of over 250,000 square feet of retail at Dubai International
Airport. Prior to his consultancy with Dubai Duty Free he was with BDG McColl (WPP) and Hambrecht Terrell (now FRCH).

We make our way up the escalators to the 27 floor of this seven-star hotel to the Skyview Bar,
