BRIGHTLINGSEA CARNIVAL
SATURDAY 14th JUNE 2008
Six local ladies from Wivenhoe, Brightlingsea and Alresford have just
completed the London Playtex Moonwalk raising £2,500 for Breast Cancer Causes.
Anne Baxter (5th time), Jo Smith and Julie Warren (3rd time) finished with a personal
best of 7hrs 11 mins. First-timers Mandy Evers, Gaye Shearman and Alison Ling
finished in a respectable time of 7 hrs 59 mins.
For those of you who have never heard of the Moonwalk, it's nothing to do with
Michael Jackson. It's a 26.2 mile power walk around London setting off just
before midnight. There are 14,000 female participants and 1,000 males, all wearing
decorated bras, including the men.
The ladies have been training since New Year's Day and have re-discovered what
a beautiful area we live in. The walking has been a wonderful, free way in which to
socialise and keep fit and raise money for such an important cause. They would like to
say a big thank you to all those who sponsored them and if anyone else would like to

On Saturday 14th June all the fun of
the carnival comes to Brightlingsea when
its annual Carnival Day takes place. This
year the theme is ZOO TIME which will
see an array of exotic and colourful floats
livening up the town.
The day has a full programme of
events with something for everyone starting
at 8am with an all day car boot sale on the
Recreation Ground in Regent Road. Then at
2.30pm you can see the main Carnival
Procession meandering through the Town
Centre and culminating back at the
Recreation Ground where the entertainment
continues with a varied programme of
arena events as well as a variety of stalls
and rides.
In the evening between 7 and 10.30pm
there will be an evening of music at the
Recreation Ground with a
variety of bands to please all musical tastes.
Why not come to Brightlingsea and be
carried along by the Carnival
atmosphere, enjoying a relaxed, lively and
colourful day.

platforms. We have formed Wivenhoe Railway Access for All to explore ways and means to rectify this inequality.
Why the questionnaire ? It is important to consult local opinion on the subject and to find out people’s travel requirements. On the basis of your feedback, action may or may not be possible. We have made contact with the National Express management on this

Double three motorcycles is a family run motorcycle shop in Great Bentley based on the Plough Road
Business Park. We looked at many sites for our premises throughout autumn 2007 and decided on our
current location because of the ease of access, ample parking and the location of the train station
which is less than 2 minutes walk from our workshops which we believe makes either dropping off your
motorcycle/scooter for routine servicing or repair and collecting it a convenient and easy experience,
although we do provide a collection and drop off service if required.
We provide a range of services to our customers including full servicing
and general repairs to all makes and models of motorcycles and scooters
may it be a simple puncture repair or a full bike rebuild we can do it. We
provide servicing and recommended maintenance procedures for all
2-stroke machines to keep them on the road and reliable as well as
recommended manufacturer checks and maintenance for all 4-stroke
machines. We can also supply a comprehensive range of tyres to suit all
budgets and applications whether it be touring, track day, race or off road
all fitted and balanced
Here at double three our focus is to provide good customer service and keep you up to date on all of
our products and services. We especially welcome people new to the biking world which can be a
daunting experience for some and we encourage people to ask questions on all aspects of owning and
maintaining there two wheeled transport.
If you’re looking to improve the looks of your motorcycle we can supply you with an impressive line up
of after market parts and accessories including Harris Performance Products, Power Commander,
Arrow Performance Exhausts Ermax Screens and coming soon the TRW range of products. We are

St Helena Hospice

St Helena Hospice continues to be a beacon of excellence in providing care and support for people with
advanced life limiting illnesses across North and Mid Essex. Expert nursing care and support is provided at
dedicated centres in Colchester and Clacton, and in communities through nursing teams and Hospice at Home
whom provide home based care.
Whilst services are free of charge to patients and their families the organisation needs £4.5 million a year to keep
going, and with only 28% of funding from the NHS the charity relies heavily on the generosity of local
communities.
Chris Hill, Fundraising and Marketing Director for the Hospice said “The Hospice really makes a difference to
patients and their families by providing physical, emotional, social and spiritual support, as well as physical
needs such as the management of pain and other symptoms”.
Recent feedback from some of the patients who experienced the care at St Helena:

Wivenhoe Town Football Awards
On Sunday 19th May 2008 the Annual Wivenhoe Town Football Awards was held on the Pitch. A
fantastic day was organized for all the boys and football tournaments were held throughout the day.
The Wivenhoe Town Under 13 squad are celebrating this year with a much deserved promotion into the
B League after many hard fought games throughout the season. They have been managed brilliantly by
Steve Short with his assistants Julian Orman and Andy Hart.
The Speech by Steve summed up the years games with the highlights, down points and the funny stories
throughout the year. Each boy was presented with players trophies as well as runner up trophies for
being second in the league which ensured their promotion next year.

Miss of the season : Liam Short ( too many to mention )

Steve for all his hard work over the last season and to Caroline Short for her support and role as Chairman.
