The First Wave Has Landed by Sheila Dollente (August of 1999) How do you pack four countries, three units of university class work, and dozens of new friends into one summer? Join an international exchange program at Imperial Valley Campus. Nine students ventured out this June to Paraguay in South America as the first exchange group representing our campus. They were accompanied by Dr. Olga Amaral as teacher of the course and Miriam Ungson, the coordinator. The class, International Perspective on Culture, was designed to offer material pertinent to all the majors that participated. Daily class time (and daily homework assignments!) were augmented by field trips in and around the capital city of Asuncion, Paraguay, with extended weekend excursions to outlying areas, including Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. International exchange gives our students opportunities to lay the foundations they need as participants in the global community, be it in business, government, or education. Our campus program is aptly titled World Advantage in Valley Education: Wave.
