You can also bring your donation to this meeting. Thanks a bunch in advance for your generosity. Just got back from attending the Devon dressage horse show. My tongue is still hanging out, dragging on the floor - the horses WOW! New meaning to "float like a butterfly." For those of you who are fad conscious - go BLING, BLING and more BLING! Fur vests are in, as are delicately constructed scarfs (fine fabrics intertwined with intricate lace to beautiful blends of wool); actually saw all matching blinged-out bridle, spurs, belt, cravat pin, belt, bracelet and hair snood, sounds a little "much," but was really beautiful; however, this was not in the show ring - there it was all "proper." Was very happy to see some of the riders wearing helmets in the ring - this is a beautiful thing - safety! Also they had a "hat contest." Lots of fru-fru hats with feathers and such. I'm thinking IHA should have a show with a designated "hat contest." So, start searching your creative mind because this could be an event next year - if the Hamptons and Devon can have "hats" so can IHA! Looking forward to the last Gymkhana show and the Jack Benny Show - hope to see you there. On Sept 5 we had our favorite ride at the Northport VA Hospital. The performance itself was great! But of course something had to go wrong! Nothing like good ole truck and trailer problems to start the day! Thankfully everyone was alright and we were able to laugh about it later on. Lauren Leggio and Laurie Chionchio did a splendid job singing God Bless America while Daphne Suchopar stood center stage with Yogi holding the American flag proudly. I think now that Lauren has her own band her and Laurie should do a duo! It was so great to see how happy we made the Veterans after our performance. It is one of the best feelings when we bring the horses over to the Vets so they can feed the horses carrots. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported those who fought for the freedom we have today. September 11 was a busy day for some of the members. Louise, Gina, Jeannette, Jamie, Wendy, Barbara, Carol, and one of our previous members Maureen went to the Bohemia Fire Department to represent the team while they had a special ceremony in honor of the tenth anniversary. Carissa and Sam were also there to present a horse shoe wreath at the ceremony. Later that afternoon Lauren sung at the IHA Dressage show while Kristen, Fran, Daphne, and Jen did a mini performance. Carissa wrote the following about the day: The drill team did an amazing job supporting 9/11 this year. It was a great day by all, everyone showed their support and had a great time. Wendy and Maureen lead the team facing the American Flag while proudly holding theirs. Jeanette, Gina, Barbara, Louise, Carol and Jamie all held their flags in support; everyone did an amazing job. Sam and I helped with the event while Tom cleaned up after the horses. Afterwards we had a meet and greet where the kids and adults fed the horses carrots. At the dressage show later that day we had Fran, Daphne, Kristen and Jen. Lauren was our announcer for the day while her boyfriend Alex did the audio. Everyone did a great job and showed their support proudly in honor of tenth anniversary of 9/11. Our third performance of the month was supposed to be the Open House at Muttontown but sadly due to the damage from the Hurricane they had to cancel. They are hoping to reschedule for late April or early May of 2012. Looks like no one wins Ride-a-Buck or Izzy Dizzy this year, bummer. On September 24th the team had a wonderful performance at Saddle Rock Ranch in Middle Island for their fundraiser “A Night Under the Stars”. The farm is beautiful and the people were so pleasant! A BIG thank you to Joanne’s cousin Jeanette for inviting us to this event; it was a great night. After the ride everyone went down to the main barn where they ate, danced, and some even got picked on by the comedian! Apparently Uncle Buck wears a table cloth of the American Flag! Spirit Riders, Roadies, and fellow IHA members please don’t forget to get to send in for the Dinner Dance tickets! There is limited seating and we want everyone there! It is always a great night and I’m looking forward to it! Primarily because our Assistant Coach Alyssa is coming home for it! It’ll be nice to have her back in person and not just in spirit. The team and I would like to send our condolences to the D’Armaro family on the passing of their beloved horse Romeo. Even though he was only in their presence for a short amount of time the memories made will last a lifetime. Catch the Spirit, Kayy On Sunday, September 11, 8 Drill Team riders and 2 walkers, attended the Bohemia Fire Department 9/11 Memorial Service. We held our American flags with pride, as we entered from Smitthown Avenue to Pearl Street, and stood at attention during the ceremony. Our noble steeds were like proud soldiers in uniform and stood so still during the ceremony. We got many compliments from the fire department on how the 8 horses were such an asset to the day! A heartfelt THANK YOU to all our riders: Wendy, Gina, Jeannette, Carol, Barbara, Lousie, Maureen and our "New-be" Jamie. Thanks to Carissa and Sam for presenting the IHA wreath. Also, for helping keep the horses in line and all of us on cue. And not to mention THANKS to that HANDSOME pooper scooper guy, Tom McKenna, for stepping in as our roadie for the day! After the service, the horses and riders stood in the picnic area and let the public feed carrots to the horses. It was just beautiful watching the boy scouts in uniforms and children from the neighborhood giggling as they fed treats to our equine friends Holiday Parades Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells. It’s that time of year again, I feel that that we just did a Christmas Parade, oh well time fly’s by when you are having fun. All riders have to be a member of I.H.A to ride in parades. Riders have to dress your horse and yourself in as much Christmas tinsel bells bows and glitter as possible and of course for the Bohemia electric and the East Setauket parades you will need battery lights. Remember to have both you and your horses clean and no sneakers. If you have never ridden in a parade before you MUST have a walker, and if you know your horse gets excited you MUST have a walker. Walkers are welcome and needed they help keep our riders safe and the spectators safe. Please call Wendy at 567 8743 to register at least a week ahead, some of our venues need to know ahead of time that we are going to be there. LaSayville Parade Sat Nov 26th. We meet at 8am south on Handsome Ave off Montauk Hwy. Parade starts at 9am. Islip Parade Sat Dec 3rd we meet at 1pm at Brookwood Hall off Irish Lane in East Islip, you make a right into Brookwood Hall and then a left before you reach the House follow a narrow road thru the trees to a field behind Brookwood Hall. Ronkonkoma Parade Dec 4th we meet at 1pm in the King Kullen shopping center and at 2pm we escort Santa to a tree lighting for the children of Ronkoma, this is not a regular Parade, it was a lot of fun last year. Bohemia Parade Sunday Dec 4th also, we meet at no latter than 4pm or you wont be able to get in to the Bohemia Rec center (where we meet for our meetings) the Parade starts at 5pm, remember as many electric lights as possible. East Setauket Parade this is a new one for us, they invited us to join there celebrations for there evening parade, this is not all fire trucks there are marchers too. We meet at 1pm, parade goes East on 25A for about a mile. We do not have a meeting place yet. The parade starts at 2pm. More info to come as we get it. He was homed in upstate New York until June of this year. Due to very unfortunate circumstances, the “rescue” where he was staying suddenly was shut down and the horses residing there were relocated, including baby Ace, the little colt I had rescued and the colt who many people fell in love with through facebook from following his journey. We have been a trusted family owned business for over 30 years! Specializing in Electrical, Air Conditioning, Brakes, NYS Inspections including trailers. 631-467-3740 Fax 631-467-3739 I was now faced with the sudden and unexpected decision related to Ace’s well-being; “Where will he go?” I decided that it would be best for him right now to be close to me, here on Long Island. While sharing this with a long time friend and mentor, Rita Gambino, she expressed her desire to help me in some way. She offered her barn “Outlaw Acres” to pitch in and sponsor a bake sale for “one of our own”. Over this past show season, a table was set up at the gymkhana & western pleasure shows where donated baked goods Nick & Sons Super Service, Inc COMPLETE AUTO REPAIR were sold with 100% of the proceeds donated to Ace for the purpose of bringing him home. Everyone in the IHA community has been so helpful and extremely generous. In these difficult times you reached inside Horse People Helping Horse People your hearts and now I can say that Ace is finally home. I would like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to Rita Gambino/Outlaw Acres, Sue Fiore and Laura Henagan for allowing the bake sale at the gymkhana and western shows, and to my fellow IHA family for your very generous support.
