Message from the President
We all thought our little
cruise to Fannin County
would be washed away
by yet another Texas
spring storm. But good
fortunes prevailed and
the storm clouds were
wisped away as our
winding string of mechanized wonders proceeded
west. I guess the lord,
who I like to think is a
car guy, just wanted us to
travel on a clean highway. After arriving at the
historic Lake Fannin
lodge we were greeted
with beautiful weather
the rest of the day. And
did we ever have some
beautiful classic cars.
Honker members brought
along 8 classic vehicles
and the Greenville club
showed up with about the
same number. We had
several types of automobiles join the cruise, from
Dale Miller’s Model A to
a Mercedes roadster from
the 80’s. So motoring
history was well represented, including hotrods,
with a 1923 t-bucket
speeding along Lamar
and Fannin county’s back
roads. Gene Ray has
posted pictures of the
event and they are on the
Facebook page so be
sure and point your
browser that way and
have a look. We hope all
the car folks that came
had a great time and
Sharon and I want to
thank everyone that
came and participated
despite the weather and
wet roads. Now let’s get
them cleaned and shined
up and get ready for the
next cruising event to be
hosted by Jan and Doug
Weiberg. Let’s see how
many of our classic rides
we can get on the road at
this next event.
And be sure to check
out the many events
posted on the Facebook
page. Also, I’ll be posting
some impromptu local
drives around the county
and adjoining county’s
from time to time and
would love to have anyone join that wants to get
their classic or daily ride
some road time. These
will almost always terminate at some type of eating establishment as everyone knows, the Honker
species loves to eat.
On a sad note, a terrible loss has befallen one
of our members with the
death of Pauline Burton’s
daughter. It’s hard to
know how to comfort a
person that has suffered
such a loss. But a comforting smile and hug will
help them get through it.
So keep her and Jenni’s
family in your prayers
and thoughts as we go
through the coming days.
And remember to live life
and enjoy your family
and friends everyday because you never know if
that is the last one you
will spend with them.
That’s all I have for now,
see ya on the 16th.

Answer to last month’s trivia question...
How did they come
up with the name
“Station Wagon” ?
The very first station wagons were called ‘depot hacks’- they
worked primarily around train depots as hacks (taxicabs).
‘Station Wagon’ was just another derivative of ‘depot hack’;
they were vehicles that were used as wagons (to carry
passengers and cargo) from (railroad) stations.
