The name of the former lawyer is present
on nearly every internet platform such as
“MySpace”, “facebook” and “YouTube”. Tshirts, buttons, flip flops, wallpapers and
caps with his face on them are available at
www.barackobama.com and he is also the
first politician of whom the German teen
magazine “Bravo” features a poster.
The young people and first-time voters are
the ones who support Obama the most.
This strong positive reaction may be the result of his youthful attitude, which is one of
the causes for the constant comparisons to
former US president John F .Kennedy. His
appearance reminds of film stars and on the
playlist of his iPod you can find many Hip
Hop artists like for instance Ludacris and
Jay-Z. The great number of rock stars and
actors who support the charismatic politician may also have impressed the young generation of the American population. Brad
Pitt, The Black Eyed Peas, Pink and Bono
are just a few of them. Oprah Winfrey, an
US TV star who has recently been voted
one of the most influencing women of the
world, has also participated Obama’s campaign.
His down-to-earth personality may also be
the reason why so many people look up to
this man. The international press shows pictures of him, doing the washing up and taking care of his two girls. Wherever
possible he emphasizes that his family is the
most important thing to him. He praises his
wife Michelle and calls her his soulmate and
the love of his life. Obama is not afraid of
expressing his emotions and he knows exactly when to stay calm and objective.
What may attract the attention of the public are also his rhetorical abilities. His speeches show a perfect balance of pathos and
objectivity. He speaks his slogan “Yes, we
can” like a preacher man the alleluia in Sunday’s mass. When he first addressed the au-
dience as the president-to-be, the priest and
politician Jesse Jackson could not hold back
his tears. Some people claim to recognize
the spirit of Martin Luther King in his voice.
Obama made history on this important Tuesday in November. He created a massive
movement and he will be the inspiration of
millions of Americans because he represents the American dream as no other man
in his position did. He showed that everything is possible and that even a man with
African roots can make it to the top in a
country dominated by white people. On November 4th, Barack Hussein Obama was
elected the 44th president of the United
States of America, a country that represents democracy like no other, but also a
country that cannot deny slavery, widespread racism and prejudice. The essential
dreams of the founders such as equality and
equal opportunities, still remain dreams.
Even though the African Americans represent the second largest minority after the
Hispanics with 40 million members, they
still have to cope with lower income and a
lower life expectancy compared to their white fellow citizens and they are also more likely to lie under a sentence of death.
Tolerance stays a dream in many parts of
the nation. Even the nomination of Obama
for the most powerful function of the world
is a sensation. His election will be a cornerstone of the country’s history and will
change the values of many of its inhabitants. It will also strengthen the unity of
America’s population and maybe also the tolerance and unity of the entire world. His
picture will be in all the history books to come and he will always be the man who gave
back America a positive patriotism and hope
for the future.
