Executive Management leadership Team Michael “Mike” Wiechart President and Chief Executive Officer Mike was appointed to the role of President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2014 after having served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer from 2009-2013. As COO, Mike had responsibility for hospital operations, quality improvement, supply chain, revenue cycle, managed care operations, and labor productivity initiatives as well as having significant involvement in merger and acquisition activities. Mike’s career in healthcare began in 1989 with the role of Controller for a hospital in Statesville, North Carolina. Later, he served as CFO at various facilities for HCA, which culminated in his being named CFO for the Chattanooga Market and then the Cumberland Division. In 1998, he became Vice President of Operations for Province Healthcare, where he oversaw financial operations for 11 hospitals before moving to LifePoint in 1999 as a founding member. As Senior Vice President & Group President for LifePoint, he led two operating divisions with 24 hospitals. Mike is a graduate of the Nashville Health Care Council’s 2014 Fellows Class, a unique program focused on influencing and transforming the nation’s health care system. He serves on the Board of Governors for the Federation of American Hospitals, which represents over 1,100 hospitals, as well as on the organization’s Rural Hospital Committee. Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Kentucky and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). He has also earned a Lean Healthcare certificate from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. His civic activities have included serving on the Boards for Big Brother Big Sister organizations in two states as well as volunteering with the United Way. He recently served for two years as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Williamson County. Mike and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters. Gary D. Willis, CPA Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer Gary D. Willis joined Capella in 2015 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He came to Capella from Martin Ventures where he has been CFO. As CFO, he oversaw all financial aspects of the investment firm which focuses on equity and debt investments in young, high growth businesses, primarily in healthcare and technology. He also mentored management teams of portfolio companies regarding strategy, capital structure and operational issues. Previously he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer for Vanguard Health Systems for six years, and prior to that, he held a similar role at LifePoint Health for six years. Before his work in health care, Gary was affiliated with Gaylord Entertainment Company, where he was Vice President, Controller and Chief Accounting Officer. A Certified Public Accountant, Gary earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Western Kentucky University. Residents of Brentwood, Gary and his wife Shelly have two daughters, Caroline and Audrey. Andrew “Andy” Slusser Executive Vice President, Chief Development Officer A founding member of the executive team, Andy serves as Executive Vice President, Chief Development Officer. He has more than 30 years of hospital operations, corporate finance and development experience. Andy leads the Company’s efforts to partner with local communities to improve healthcare services by delivering more capital to expand services and recruit physicians while providing a new tax base to the local governments. In 2015, Andy was honored with Capella’s “Founder’s Leadership Award,” in recognition of his outstanding work and commitment to the company over the past decade. Andy previously served as the Vice President of Acquisitions and Development for Province Healthcare. In his capacity, he was responsible for all activities leading to the ultimate acquisition of hospitals and health systems of various size complexity and legal structure. He began his career with HCA, serving in a variety of CFO positions with the company. He was promoted to CFO for HCA’s Western Group with responsibility for 45 US hospitals, five European hospitals and 125 surgical centers across the US representing approximately $4 billion in revenue. Andy also was a founding officer, Senior Vice President and CFO of Arcon Healthcare, Inc., a provider of ambulatory care services. Andy holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and is a CPA (inactive). He and his wife, Karen, have a son and a daughter. Mark Medley Executive Vice President, President – Hospital Operations As President of Hospital Operations for Capella, Mark works with affiliated hospitals' leadership teams in setting strategy and achieving goals in the five key pillars. Prior to joining Capella in 2008, Mark was affiliated for nine years with LifePoint Hospitals serving as a hospital CEO as well as a division and hospital CFO. Mark began his healthcare career as an Internal Auditor for HealthTrust, Inc. Later, he served as a hospital CFO for two HCA hospitals prior to joining LifePoint. Throughout his healthcare career, Mark has worked directly with over 30 hospitals in 15 states. Prior to beginning his career in healthcare, Mark served on active and reserve duty with the U.S. Air Force. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Tennessee Technological University and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). Active in the Tennessee Hospital Association, Mark completes two years of service as Chair of THA’s Board in the fall. He previously led the THA Council on Government Affairs. In 2013, the THA presented Mark with its Small or Rural Hospital Leadership Award in recognition of his service. A fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Mark received Capella’s 2012 Growth Pillar Award in recognition of his outstanding work. Mark previously served on the boards of Hospital Hospitality House of Nashville and Ridley Barron, Inc., an organization that partners with hospital’s and related entities to provide quality care and improve patient safety. He has served as board member of United Way in Lexington, KY, and is past-president of two Rotary chapters in which he is a Paul Harris fellow. Mark and his wife, Maree, reside in Franklin. Donald J. Bivacca Executive Vice President, President – Operations Support Donald J. “Don” Bivacca joined Capella in 2015 as Executive Vice President and President of Operations Support for Capella Healthcare. The new position was created because of the significant growth Capella is experiencing. A key part of Don’s role includes leading our teams in the due diligence process as Capella evaluates potential additions, and helping to determine how the company can best invest capital to improve quality, expand services, manage costs, and recruit needed providers. With more than 25 years of healthcare experience, Don began his career with HCA serving in a variety of hospital-based financial leadership roles, culminating in the role of Division CFO. After that, he partnered in launching a private company, ARx–The Accounts Receivable Solution, which grew to serve more than 200 providers in 30+ states and earned recognition as one of the fastest growing companies in middle Tennessee four years in a row. He then joined LifePoint Health where he worked for 11 years, serving most recently as Western Group President, with responsibility for 24 hospitals. Don earned his bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA, where he majored in accounting, economics and military science. He earned an MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He is a graduate of The Advisory Board’s Fellowship program. Don and his wife Dee, a nurse for the Williamson County School System, have two daughters – Kelsey and Lauren – both looking at careers in health care. Neil W. Kunkel Executive Vice President, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer Neil joined Capella in October of 2011 as General Counsel and Secretary of the Board. He was promoted to his current position in January 2014. He has more than 20 years of experience in the practice of law, fifteen of those in health care. Before joining Capella, he was Vice-President and Associate General Counsel for LifePoint Hospitals, which he joined in 1998 before its spin-off from HCA in 1999. Prior to that, he was affiliated with HCA, where he served as Group Operations Counsel then as Managing Counsel. He began his career as Law Clerk for Justices W. Joel Blass and C.H. McRae with the Mississippi Supreme Court in 1990. He then worked for two law firms in Louisville, KY. Neil is a graduate of the Nashville Health Care Council’s 2015 Fellows Class, a renowned program focused on influencing and transforming the nation’s health care system. A member of the Board of Governors of the Federation of American Hospitals, Neil has served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Legal and Operations Policy Committee. He has also served as Chair of the Health Facilities Interest Group of the American Bar Association’s Health Law Section. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and a member of both the Tennessee and Kentucky Bar Associations. A graduate of Wake Forest University, Neil earned his law degree from the University of Louisville Law School, where he was a member of the Brandeis Honor Society. He and his wife, Paula Walker, have two children. Senior Leadership Richard “Rick” Charbonneau Senior Vice President –Development A charter employee of the company, Rick was promoted to VP-Business Development in 2011 and SVP-Development in 2015. He focuses on in-market development as well as the northwestern U.S., where he previously worked. Rick’s other primary responsibility is in the vital area of managed care contracting in which he serves as direct liaison for contracting with payers in each of Capella’s communities. In both 2013 and 2014, Rick received Capella’s Growth Pillar Award in recognition of his outstanding service. He previously served as Vice President of Managed Care for HCA in their northwest market after having served as Director of Development and Managed Care at Capital Medical Center in Olympia, Washington. Rick has approximately 20 years of healthcare experience including employment as Director of Managed Care with Matrix Rehabilitation, Inc. and HealthSouth, both of which are located in Seattle. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Washington State University and completed the three-year ISP Masters program through University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Business. A member of The People’s Church in Franklin, Rick’s community involvement includes working with children as a soccer coach. He and his wife, Susan, have two daughters. Dana Rice, RN, MHA, CCM SVP, Chief Quality Officer Dana Rice, RN, MHA, CCM, is Senior Vice President and Chief Quality Officer. With more than 20 years of healthcare experience, Dana is responsible for working with Capella’s hospitals on clinical operations and quality performance. From 2013-15, Dana has been Senior Director of Hospital Operations for Kaiser Permanente, serving as administrative liaison to 11 hospitals in the Colorado Region. Prior to that, she was their Regional Director of Resource Stewardship. Before joining Kaiser Permanente, Dana was with Capella serving as COO for Capital Medical Center in Olympia, WA, from 2011-13. Dana began her career as a nurse in North Carolina. She moved into management at Haywood Regional Medical Center in Waynesville, NC, serving as RN Case Manager and then Corporate Compliance Officer / Risk Manager. She also worked for Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital (KY) as Director of Quality/Risk/Resource Management as well as Chief Nursing Officer for Valley View Medical Center (AZ) and Havasu Regional Medical Center (AZ). She earned an A.A.S. degree in nursing from Wilkes Community College (NC), a B.S. in Health Services Management from Western Carolina University (NC), and an M.H.A from A.T. Still University (MO) where she was honored as the “Top GPA Award” recipient. Ben Ross SVP, President – Physician Services Ben oversees the Physician Services Department, with responsibility for working with hospitals in the recruitment of physicians as well as practice development. In 2015 Ben received Capella’s Growth Pillar Award in recognition of his outstanding performance. He joined Capella in 2011, coming from Essent Healthcare, Inc. in Nashville, where he had been Vice-President of Physician Services since 2008. Prior to that, he was Administrator of a multispecialty physician practice in Columbia, South Carolina. He also served as a Division Director at Providence Northeast, a Sisters of Charity Providence Hospitals, also in Columbia. Ben earned his undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and his Master’s Degree in Health Administration from University of South Carolina in Columbia. He and his wife, Shannon, have a daughter. Carolyn Schneider Senior Vice President – Human Resources Carolyn has more than 25 years experience in healthcare human resources, leading talent management functions for large publicly held hospital management companies such as HealthTrust and OrNda/Tenet. Carolyn was named a 2011 “Woman of Influence” by the Nashville Business Journal in recognition of her professional and personal accomplishments. She has led the human resource functions as VP- Human Resources for start-up and entrepreneurial organizations such as MedScape, WebMD and Attentus Healthcare. She also served as SVP, Chief People Officer for Gibson Musical Instruments with locations worldwide. Her innovative approach towards talent management with HealthTrust and OrNda has been highlighted in such magazines as “Computer World”, “PC Week” and “Plants, Parks and Sites.” She was also featured in Vanderbilt’s Owen Magazine for her work in HR as a business partner. Early in her career, she received multiple awards from the Texas Association of Personnel Consultants and the Dallas/Fort Worth Association of Personnel Consultants as a top recruiter in the state. Carolyn holds a master’s degree in business from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Business. She has been active in the community, serving on the Nashville Children’s Theatre Board, worked with the Center for Non-profit Management, the Adventure Science Museum, the Monroe Carroll Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and the Nashville Ballet. Alan Smith Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer Joining Capella in May 2011, Al leads the company in implementing information systems to achieve the most effective enterprise-wide IT operations. With more than 20 years of experience, Al has worked in hospitals, hospital management companies, health insurance plans and technology consulting firms. In 2013, Al received Capella’s Shining Star Award in recognition of his outstanding work in all five of the company’s pillars. He was also named to Becker’s Hospital Review’s “100 Hospital and Health System CIOs to Know” list. Before Capella, Al served as VP-Applications and Interim CIO for Vanguard Health System where he was responsible for IT applications across all geographic markets. Before that, he was a Client Results Executive for Cerner Corporation in Kansas City, MO, as well as VP-Clinical Applications for Carolinas HealthCare System (CHS) in Charlotte, NC. He began his career with Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and First Consulting Group in Detroit, MI, providing technology consulting. Al is currently serving as Chairman of the HIT Task Force for the Federation of American Hospitals. He is also serving on the Board of the Tennessee Health Information Management Society (TN HIMSS). He completed his undergraduate degree in financial administration with highest honors at Michigan State University. He also earned a Masters of Public Health from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Al and his wife, Christie, have two daughters. Robert B. Wampler Senior Vice President – Hospital Operations In his position as COO-Hospital Operations, Robert works with all of Capella’s hospitals. Before being promoted to his current position, he served as VP of Financial Operations and then as Division COO/CFO. Robert has approximately 25 years of healthcare experience, and has had direct operational responsibility for over 30 facilities in 13 states. In 2013, Robert received Capella’s People Pillar Award in recognition of his outstanding work. Before joining Capella, Robert worked for Province Healthcare and LifePoint Hospitals as a Division CFO. He also served for 11 years with Community Health Systems in various roles as Controller, CFO and CEO. Robert earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in accounting from East Tennessee State University. He holds an active CPA license. Robert serves on the Board of the THA Solutions Group. He and his wife, Lorry, have a son and a daughter. Robert is active in his church and volunteers his time to referee Upward Basketball. Lori Wooten Senior Vice President, CFO – Hospital Operations As Senior Vice President and CFO of Hospital Operations, Lori oversees all functions involving hospital finance, working closely with hospital CFOs and corporate leadership. She also is responsible for a number of other corporate departments as well, including supply chain, reimbursement, HIM/Coding, and corporate accounting. Lori received Capella’s People Pillar Award in 2014 and the Finance Pillar Award in 2015, both for her outstanding performance in helping the company achieve key pillar objectives. She joined Capella Healthcare in November 2009 as Vice-President and Operations CFO, and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2014. Prior to Capella, Lori served for ten years as VPOperations Controller at LifePoint Hospitals, where she was a founding employee. While there, she participated in a High Performers Executive Leadership Program, an intensive two-year program provided through The Advisory Board Company. Prior to that, she served as a financial analyst and senior auditor for HCA. Lori earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting in from Lambuth University in Jackson and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). She has completed graduate work in Lean for Healthcare at the University of Tennessee. Lori and her husband have two daughters. Beth B. Wright Senior Vice President – Corporate Communications & Strategic Marketing In addition to her corporate communication responsibilities, Beth works with Capella’s hospitals to expand and enhance services in partnership with their medical staffs and communities. With 30+ years of experience in hospital marketing, PR and strategic planning, Beth spent the first two decades of her career as Marketing/PR Director for HCA hospitals in Georgia and Tennessee. In 2012, Beth received Capella’s People Pillar Award for outstanding service. Beth came to Capella from LifePoint Hospitals where she served as Director of Marketing Services for three years, serving 45+ facilities. Her work in physician marketing while there was featured by The Health Care Advisory Board in its 2010 Marketing & Planning Leadership Council national meeting series. She serves on the Editorial Board for Marketing Health Services magazine, published by the American Marketing Association, and on the Public Relations Task Force of the Federation of American Hospitals. Beth graduated cum laude from Shorter University in Rome, GA, with a bachelor’s degree in communications. Active in the community, she serves on the Board of End Slavery Tennessee, which works to end human trafficking and to rescue and restore survivors. She also serves on the Board of “You Have the Power,” a victim advocacy organization, and as President-Elect for the Kiwanis Club of Williamson County. She and her husband, David, are active members of Long Hollow Baptist Church. Leadership Team Richard Brasher Vice President – Risk Management Richard W. Brasher, CPCU, ARM, joined Capella as Vice President of Risk Management in 2014, following more than a decade of similar professional experience. Prior to joining Capella, Rick was Vice President of Risk Management for Vanguard Health Systems for six years. Before that, as a Vice President with Marsh, he was the outsourced Risk Manager for Vanguard for nine years. In that role, he helped to build the company’s risk and insurance management infrastructure from the ground up. Rick previously held positions with Consolidated Catholic Casualty Risk Retention Group, HCA, and Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He has earned numerous certifications, including Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM). He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Alabama. Rick and his wife, Nancy, have three sons, and are members of Fellowship Bible Church. Rick enjoys reading, riding his Harley, and hiking (he’s hiked the Grand Canyon “rim to rim”). Holly Clark, RN, FACHE Vice President, Hospital Support Services With more than 20 years of experience, Holly has worked in various leadership roles in hospitals throughout the South and Midwest. She joined Capella Healthcare in 2010, serving first as COO for Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville, AR, and then as COO for EASTAR Health System in OK. At both facilities she led process improvement initiatives that resulted in increased scores for core measure performance and in higher patient and physician satisfaction scores. Holly has served in a variety of senior leadership roles, including CNO at Plateau Medical Center in Oak Hill, WV; COO at SUN/Mediplex Rehabilitation Hospital in Bowling Green, KY; and as CEO for Henderson County Community Hospital in Lexington, TN. She earned her bachelor’s degree in general studies and an MHA from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, graduating with a 4.0 GPA. She completed her RN degree at Southern Illinois University where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Sorority. She also earned certification in LEAN Healthcare from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She holds fellowship status in the American College of Hospital Executives. Ray Coffey Vice President – Reimbursement Ray and his team assist Capella’s hospitals in required financial reporting to Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and other insurance providers. In addition to providing various service / margin analyses and estimated impacts of regulatory changes as they relate to the Medicare program, he and his staff provide similar support as they apply to the State Medicaid programs. With more than 35 years experience in third-party reporting and accounting, Ray has held similar positions at Province Healthcare, Quorum Healthcare and HCA Management Company. During his career, Ray has assisted hospitals in substantially increasing reimbursement and reducing contractual adjustments by providing direction on such issues as Rural Referral Center status, Medicare Dependent status, Geographic Reclassification, Exempt Units and HospitalBased status. Ray has served on CMS’s Medicare Technical Advisory Group (MTAG), testified before Medicare’s Provider Reimbursement Review Board and is currently an active member of the Federation of American Hospital’s Health Financing Steering Committee. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting degree from James Madison University. Ray has served on the Board of Mercy Children’s Clinic in Franklin. He and his wife, Donna, have two sons and are active members of Brentwood Baptist Church. Beverly Craig, RN Vice President – Regulatory Compliance and Clinical Risk Management With 30 years of experience, Beverly is responsible for corporate oversight and program development related to regulatory compliance, accreditation, clinical risk management, patient safety and medical staff credentialing. She uses her clinical expertise to assist Capella’s hospitals in developing effective Clinical Risk Management programs with the goal of enhancing patient care while minimizing risks in the clinical setting. Beverly received Capella’s 2013 Quality Pillar Award in recognition of her outstanding work. Beverly came to Capella in 2006 after holding similar positions at IASIS Healthcare and Province Healthcare. Previous roles provided experience in long-term care, quality management and occupational health. Beverly is a member of the Health Systems Corporate Liaison Advisory Group of The Joint Commission. A past member of the Board of Governors for the Federation of American Hospitals (2008-2010), Beverly currently serves on the Quality Committee. She is also an active member of the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management (ASHRM) and the American Business Women’s Association. Beverly holds an RN licensure in the state of Tennessee and a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration from Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. She has completed graduate work in LEAN for Healthcare at the University of Tennessee. She enjoys golfing, boating and reading. Beverly and her husband, Joe, have twin daughters. Libba Estep Assistant Vice President, CFO - Physician Services Libba’s responsibilities include overseeing the fiscal operations of Capella’s employed physician practices. She works collaboratively with the hospital operations team and practice management leadership to maximize clinic financial performance and growth, focusing on financial reporting, variance reporting, cost and other financial analysis. Libba has a wealth of operational accounting experience in physician operations from positions with HCA, Columbia/HCA, and Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, TN. Immediately prior to joining Capella, she served as Healthcare Advisory Senior Manager for Henderson, Hutcherson & McCullough, PLLC, in Chattanooga. A Certified Public Accountant, Libba earned her bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technological University’s College of Business Administration. She has a son and a daughter. Shawn Green, RN, MSN, ACNS-BC Vice President – Care Management and Appeals Shawn joined Capella in 2013 as Director of Denials and Appeals and was promoted to VP-Care Management and Appeals in 2014. He is responsible for supporting the Case Management functions related to care management and care transitions for Capella’s facilities. Shawn will continue to be responsible for the coordination of Capella’s RAC (Recovery Audit Contractors) appeals process. Prior to joining Capella, he was Director for Central Appeals, Quality and Clinical Transformation at Community Health Systems (CHS) where he developed and implemented the Recovery Audit appeal process for Medicare and Medicaid Part A. Shawn was awarded CHS’s President’s award in 2011, for outstanding achievements within the company and contributing to overall success, and again in 2012 for his successful restructuring of the centralized department. Shawn earned an MSN as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from Liberty University, a BS in Business Administration from Excelsior College in New York, and an AS in Nursing from West Central Technical College in Waco, Georgia. Additionally, he has holds certification as an Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. Shawn was born in Petersburg, VA, and moved to Atlanta in his teens. He enjoys traveling with cruising being his preferred mode of travel. Stephanie Hall, CPA Vice President – Financial Reporting Stephanie Hall, CPA, joined Capella in 2015 as Vice President of Financial Reporting. With more than 20 years of healthcare accounting and financial management experience, Stephanie previously worked with KPMG as a Senior Manager. She also has hospital experience, serving as Controller and Associate CFO with Centinela Hospital / Century Hospital and as Corporate Controller for Centinela Freeman Health System, a 3-hospital system, both in California. Stephanie earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Accounting, from Pepperdine University in California. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Brian K. Hitchcock Vice President – Materiel Resource Operations Brian manages supply chain, capital equipment planning, and facilities and building operational guidance and leadership. Brian has spent more than 40 years in materials management operations in leadership roles for individual healthcare organizations and investor owned corporations. Prior to joining Capella in 2005, Brian served as the Vice President, Quorum Materiel Resource Group (a subsidiary of Quorum Health Resources, LLC). In that role he led supply chain service delivery for over 150 client healthcare organizations. He was instrumental in development of the curriculum for healthcare materials management education at QHR and was the lead instructor for the Quorum College of Materiel Management. Brian’s career includes serving on advisory councils for both Premier Purchasing Partners and HealthTrust Purchasing Group in materials management and radiology disciplines. He currently sits on the Exposition Advisory Committee with the F.A.H. and the Institute of Healthcare Executives and Suppliers (IHES) Council of Supply Chain Executives. He holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Quantitative Systems, from the University of Nevada. A Boy Scout Troup Leader, Brian counts among his Scouting accomplishments climbing to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro with his oldest son’s troop. Brian and his wife, Etta, have two sons. Gay Huff Assistant Vice President, Controller-Hospital Operations Gay works with Capella’s hospitals to oversee financial operations, revenue integrity processes and clinical documentation initiatives. She joined Capella in 2009, serving as Interim Controller for Mineral Area Regional Medical Center in Farmington, MO, and then for Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, TN in 2010. She moved to the corporate setting in 2011 as Operations Controller, was promoted to Senior Director of Financial Operations and Revenue Integrity in 2013, then to Assistant Vice President, Controller-Hospital Operations in 2014. Gay began her career as CFO at Crossroads Community Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL, which was recognized by HCIA as a “100 Top Hospitals” winner for three consecutive years. She then worked in CFO and controller positions at a number of hospitals throughout the Southwest and Midwest, including Affinity Medical Center in Massillon, Ohio, where she assisted in the completion of a joint venture between two area hospitals, creating a 432-bed organization. Gay earned a B.S. degree in accounting from Saint Mary of the Woods College in Indiana. A native of Illinois, Gay travels home frequently to spend time with her family. She enjoys spending time on the water, supporting her local church and is a strong supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals and Lady Vols. Brent Jean, CPA, FHFMA Assistant Vice President – Reimbursement With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare finance, accounting and reimbursement Brent joined Capella Healthcare in 2008. His expertise is invaluable in assisting Capella’s hospitals with the required financial reporting to the Medicare and Medicaid programs as well as to other insurance providers. In 2015, Brent received Capella’s People Pillar Award in recognition of his outstanding service. Brent began his career as an Audit Manager with Ernst and Young in Birmingham, AL, moving into health care in 1993 when he joined Eastern Health System, also in Birmingham, as Director of Managed Care and Reimbursement. He moved to middle Tennessee in 1996 as Manager of Health Financing Resources for Quorum Health Services. He then worked in Reimbursement at Province Healthcare, LifePoint Hospitals and Attentus Healthcare for seven years before joining Capella. A Fellow in the Healthcare Financial Management Association, Brent earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from University of Alabama, where he graduated cum laude. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Williamson-Maury County. He and his wife have two sons and a daughter. Jane Motes Vice President – Revenue Cycle Operations As Vice-President – Revenue Cycle Operations, Jane works with Capella’s affiliated hospitals to achieve excellence in business office functions, including achieving operational efficiencies and improving collections. With more than 20 years of health care experience, Jane joined Capella in January of 2015. Prior to joining Capella, she served as Senior Director, Revenue Cycle, at University of Arizona Health Network in Tucson, Arizona. Before that, she served St. Luke’s Health System in Boise, Idaho, in a variety of roles including positions at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center and rising to System Director-Revenue Cycle for the five-hospital organization. Jane earned a bachelor’s of science degree, focusing on public health, from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. She is a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association. Previous community work has included service on the boards of Boise Philharmonic Association and Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Angie Mulder, CHC Vice President, Corporate Compliance Officer Angie joined Capella in 2014 after more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Angie works with both hospital management teams and corporate staff to ensure that the structure and resources required for the company’s ethics and compliance program are in place and effective. She has earned national certification in healthcare compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association. Angie began her career at Ernst & Young where she was primarily assigned to healthcare audit clients, including HealthTrust. After leaving Ernst & Young, she held various financial and audit roles for Symphony Home Care and HCA. Most recently Angie was Senior Director, Ethics and Compliance, for LifePoint Hospitals, having joined the company shortly after its spin-off from HCA in 1999. Active in the community, Angie serves on the Board of Directors for Alive Hospice, and volunteers with Room at the Inn through her church. Angie received her Bachelor's of Business Administration degree with honors from the University of Georgia and is an avid Bulldogs fan. She lives in Franklin with her husband and enjoys traveling, cooking, spending time outdoors, and gardening. Christina Patterson Vice President – Finance and Investor Relations With more than 15 years of experience in healthcare financial management, Christina’s role involves working collaboratively with corporate finance and hospital operations staff with the processes required for financial reporting, including acquisition due diligence and other areas. She also manages the corporate accounting department. In 2014, Christina received Capella’s Finance Pillar Award for outstanding service. Christina joined Capella in 2007 as CFO for River Park Hospital, a 125-bed facility in McMinnville, Tennessee, moving to the corporate office in 2010. Her prior experience included serving as CFO for Medical Center of Southern Indiana, a 96-bed facility in Charlestown, Indiana, and Controller for Vaughan Regional Medical Center, a 214-bed hospital in Selma, Alabama. She also worked as a CFO and Controller at hospitals affiliated with Province and Attentus. Her experience also includes work in health care auditing and accounting. Christina earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington and is currently completing requirements for an MBA through University of Nebraska. Andretta Reed, MHA, RHIA Vice President – HIM Operations and Coding Andretta joined Capella in 2012 as Director of Coding and Revenue Integrity, being promoted to her present role in 2014. She has more than 12 years of HIM experience in the healthcare industry, working with both large and small organizations. One of her major responsibilities includes leading Capella’s ICD-10 implementation initiative. Specific areas of expertise include planning, managing, directing, remote coding programs, HIM process and documentation improvement, coding and bill audits, ICD10 education preparation, educator in coding and billing, operation leader in large scale system conversions, and making strategic decisions within healthcare organizations. Andretta earned a B.S in Health Information Management from Tennessee State University and an M.S. in Healthcare Administration from Capella University. She holds memberships in American Health Information Management Association and Tennessee Health Information Management Association. She is a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) and an AHIMA-Approved ICD-10 Trainer. She is also a nominating electing committee member for THIMA (Tennessee Health Information Management Association). Andretta and her husband have a son and a daughter. She volunteers as Assistant Program Director and Coach for a local team affiliated with AAU Girls Basketball. Scott Rester, MBA, CHCIO, PMP, CPHIMS Vice President – Information Systems and Project Management Scott joined Capella in 2015 as VP-Information Systems and Project Management after having worked for the company previously in a consulting role. With more than 20 years of healthcare management and consulting experience, Scott has worked with more than a dozen major health systems in 50 markets. His experience spans both providers and payers and he has helped lead large-scale clinical, revenue cycle, and ambulatory transformations through innovative technology adoption and process redesign. In addition to consulting, Scott has held numerous leadership roles including CIO, COO, Vice President, Regional Director, and Program Management Officer. He has worked with a variety of organizations including investor-owned and not-for-profit healthcare systems, stand-alone hospitals, government agencies, and private firms. He is one of fewer than 200 healthcare CIOs holding the prestigious CHCIO credential. He also holds PMP and CPHIMS credentials. Scott earned an MBA from Samford University’s Brock School of Business and a BS also from Samford. He has previously held leadership roles at the state and national level in several professional organizations. Warren Smith Assistant Vice President – Corporate Accounting Warren joined Capella Healthcare shortly after its founding in 2005. He moved from the hospital setting to the corporate office in 2008 as Director of Corporate Accounting and was promoted to his present role in January 2014. He has significant experience in hospital accounting and finance, having worked at several Tennessee hospitals, including Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga, and Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, where he served as Chief Financial Officer for approximately three years. He is a graduate of East Tennessee State University. Warren and his wife, Nancy, have three daughters and are active in their church. Davis Turner Vice President, Associate General Counsel Davis joined Capella in 2014 as Vice President, Associate General Counsel. With more than 27 years of legal experience, Davis provides legal support for Capella’s hospitals and the corporate office on a variety of matters, including real estate, contracts, physician agreements and more. Previously, he was Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for Vanguard Health System, serving for nine years. He has also worked as in-house counsel at Quorum Health Group, OrNda Healthcorp and HCA and was a member of both Frost Brown Todd, LLC and Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis. He began his legal career at the Nashville law firm of Dearborn & Ewing. Davis earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he graduated Order of the Coif. He also earned an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University Owen Graduate School of Management. He completed his undergraduate studies at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his bachelor’s degree in economics, graduating with honors. Active in the community, Davis is a member of the Rotary Club of Nashville and has previously served on the Boards of Disciple Bible Outreach Ministries of Tennessee, High Hopes, Ten Thousand Villages of Nashville, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Tennessee Chapter, and The Webb School Alumni Board. He is a member of American Health Lawyers Association and American Bar Association and has also been active in the Federation of American Hospitals. He and his wife, Melora, have two daughters. Jim Wiseman Vice President – Tax With more than 25 years of tax experience, Jim serves as Capella’s chief tax officer, working with affiliated hospitals on all tax matters. His roles vary from planning and consulting to due diligence and compliance. He was honored for his innovative volunteer work in 2011 when the Tax Executives Institute presented Jim with its very first “Pro Bono Award” in honor of work to organize assistance for Nashville flood victims in filing casualty loss tax refund claims. Jim has held management or executive positions at Arthur J. Gallagher & Company, Gaylord Entertainment, and KPMG. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee with a major in accounting. He also earned a master’s degree in accountancy with a tax emphasis, also from the University of Tennessee. Jim served as 2013-14 Nashville Chapter President of the Tax Executive Institute. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Chapter of the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Jim has been involved in many community endeavors including coaching youth sports. He and his wife, Sandra, have two daughters. Lee W. Yuill, CPA, CFE, CIA, CRMA, CGMA Vice President – Internal Audit Lee serves as Capella’s Chief Audit Executive. He is responsible for internal financial assurance services and reports independently to the company’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee. With more than 20 years of healthcare experience in audit, operations and reimbursement, he has held leadership positions at LifePoint Hospitals, Province Healthcare, HCA, Humana and a local Nashville CPA firm. Lee holds the following professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the state of Tennessee, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) and Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) He is also a member of the Association of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Tennessee Society of CPAs (TSCPA). He earned his bachelor’s degree from Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. Lee has served in leadership and volunteer positions with Boy Scouts of America, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and is active in his local church. He enjoys running, football, outdoor activities and music. Lee and his wife, Carol, have a son and a daughter.
