COSTUMES$
Recital!costumes!are!provided!for!your!child!from!the!Festival!Dance!costume!closet.!!They!will!be!fit!during!
regular!class!time.!Costumes!for!all!classes!will!be!at!the!Hartung!Theatre!and!ready!for!your!child!at!rehearsal.!$
After$rehearsal,$all#dancers#must$return$their$costume(s)$to$their$instructor.$$All$costumes$must$remain$at$the$
theatre$between$the$rehearsals$and$performances.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Dancers!are!required!to!provide!their!own!tights!and!shoes,!as!indicated!by!the!Festival!Dance!Academy!Dress!
Code,!and!your!instructor!will!tell!you!what!color!of!tights!to!wear!with!your!costume.!!Older!students!may!
want!to!wear!(and%some%specific%costumes%may%require)%a!“nudie”!camisole!style!leotard!for!hygiene!protection.!!

DRESS$REHEARSAL$
Attendance$ at$ dress$ rehearsals$ is$ mandatory.$ $ OnTstage$ dress$ rehearsals$ for$ each$ class$ are$ scheduled$ for$
Saturday,$May$14th.$$These!are!held!at!the!University!of!Idaho!Hartung!Theatre! (directions%enclosed).%% Dancers!
should!enter!through!the!back!entrance!of!the!theatre!(located%at%the%loading%dock%on%the%south%side%of%the%building)!
and!go!immediately!to!the!backstage!area!located!straight!through!the!scene!shop!(signs%will%be%posted).!
!!
Please!note!that!May!14th!is!graduation!for!the!University!of!Idaho!and!parking!will!be!difficult.!!Dancers!must!
attend!and!be!on!time!to!their!rehearsal,!PLEASE$ALLOW$EXTRA$TIME$TO$FIND$PARKING.$$If!you!have!a!conflict!

guidelines%are%enclosed).!!!If!you!dancer!is!in!more!than!one!piece,!have!hair!completed!for!the!first!piece!they!are!

Family!members!may!watch,!videotape,!and!photograph!the!dress!rehearsal,!but!please!refrain!from!going!to!
the! backstage! and! greenroom! areas,! unless! you! are! dropping! off! or! picking! up! your! child.! ! This! area! is!
designated! for! dancers,! Festival! Dance! faculty! and! staff,! and! designated! “backstage! volunteers.”! These! areas!
are! simply! too! small! to! reasonably! accommodate! others.! ! Only! females! are! allowed! inside! of! the! dressing!
rooms/green! room—instructors! and! backstage! volunteers! will! supervise! and! help! your! children! get! into!

MAKEUP$GUIDELINES$
$
All!students!need!to!arrive!for!the!evening!performances!with!hair!and!makeWup!done.!!Please!check!with!your!
child’s! instructor! for! the! specific! hairstyle! required! for! the! performances.! ! If! your! child! is! in! more! than! one!
piece,!hair!should!be!completed!for!their!first!piece.!!Remember!to!bring!makeup,!hairspray!or!hair!gel,!brush,!
bobby!pins,!hair!nets,!etc.!!Having!everything!necessary!and!ready!to!go!will!help!the!rehearsal!run!smoothly.!!!

Step$1.$ Foundation!is!used!to!even!out!the!complexion!and!reduce!shadows!from!stage!lights.!
Always!apply!foundation!to!a!clean!face.!!Choose!a!shade!very!similar!to!the!color!of!the!face.!!
Using!a!makeup!sponge,!apply!an!even!coat!of!foundation!to!the!entire!face,!including!under!
the!chin,!onto!the!neck,!around!the!ears!and!up!to!the!hairline.!Blend!carefully!to!ensure!an!
even!application.!Set!the!foundation!with!a!small!amount!of!powder.!

Step$2.$Blush!adds!color!as!well!as!definition!to!the!face.!Choose!a!pink!blush!color!similar!to!
the!natural!color!of!the!cheeks! (the% color% should% not% be% too% bright% or% too% dull).!!Smile!and!apply!
blush!to!the!apples!of!the!cheeks,!sweeping!up!and!out!toward!the!hairline.!!
!!
Step$3.$Apply!white!eye!shadow!just!under!the!eyebrow.!!Apply!eye!shadow!over!the!entire!
eyelid.!Pick!dark!brown!or!grey/charcoal!color!that!will!make!your!eyes!stand!out!on!stage,!as!
stage! lights! tend! to! make! the! eyes! appear! smaller.! Choose! three! complementary! colors,!
applying!the!darkest!shade!near!the!eye,!the!medium!shade!above!the!eyelid!crease,!and!the!
lightest!shade!under!the!eyebrow.!!!Remember!to!slightly!blend!the!colors!together.!!

Step$4.$Lining!the!eyes!with!eyeliner!makes!them!really!stand!out.!Line!the!bottom!of!the!eye!
lid!with!white!pencil.!!Use!liquid!eyeliner!on!the!top!lid!and!a!pencil!liner!on!the!bottom!(pencil%
liner%for%both%lids%on%very%young%dancer%is%acceptable).!
!!
To!line!the!upper!lid,!apply!a!thin,!straight!line!starting!from!the!inner!corner.!For!a!dramatic!
effect,! allow! the! line! to! extend! beyond! the! natural! eyelid.! To! line! the! lower! lid,! start! at! the!
outer!corner!of!the!eye!and!draw!a!thin!line!under!the!lower!lashes.!Liner!should!start!where!
the!lashes!begin!and!stop!where!they!end!on!both!eyelids.!!Do!not!do!“fishWlike”!eyeliner.!!!

Step$ 5.! Using! black! mascara,! gently! sweep! two! coats! on! upper! and! lower! lashes.! Older!
dancers!sometimes!choose!to!wear!false!eyelashes.!Young!dancers!may!achieve!similar!results!
by!applying!several!coats!of!mascara!after!curling!the!lashes!with!an!eyelash!curler.!!

Step$ 6.$ $ Carefully! apply! a! bright! (but% tasteful)% shade! of! pink! or! red! lipstick! to! the! upper! and!
lower!lips.!Blot!softly!with!a!tissue.!!

Give your dancer the gift of a rose bouquet at the spring recital to mark their special
accomplishment! To order your recital roses, your form and payment must be received in
the Festival Dance office by Friday, May 6th (slide it under the door if it is closed). You may pick
up your roses in the lobby of the Hartung Theatre 30 minutes prior to the start of each recital.
Important: On the day of the recital, we will only have a very limited number of single roses and
three-rose bouquets for sale while supplies last.

assume liability to any medical expenses involved. This authorization extends to my child’s participation in any activity sponsored
by Festival Dance Academy. Should a medical emergency arise during my child’s participation in a Festival Dance Academy
sponsored activity, I understand that reasonable efforts will be made to contact me or my designated alternate at the phone
numbers listed above. If it is believed my child’s life or health may be adversely affected by delay that an attempt to contact me or
my designated alternate would cause, I consent to:
(i)
The administration of medical treatment and/or surgical procedures deemed necessary by the medical doctor and/or
medical facility identified below or chosen by Festival Dance Academy.
(ii)
The immediate administration of life-sustaining measures deemed necessary under the circumstances.
The application for these lessons being accepted, I hereby, for myself, my heirs, executors, and administrators waive
and release any and all rights and claims for any damages that I may have against Festival Dance Academy, its
board of directors, instructors and staff. I understand that photographs, recordings, taping, or filming of participants
by any and all Festival Dance Academy employees, independent contractors, or members of the press become the
property of Festival Dance Academy and may be used for future publicity. By signing, each of the undersigned
participants and his or her Parent involved with Festival Dance Academy expressly adopts and agrees to be bound
by the above waiver and release agreement.
