us know that Fall has arrived.
For years we have said, “Fall
is for planting” because it is
less stressful for a plant to be
planted when temperatures are
not scorching and yet warm
enough for some root growth.

Pay attention, y’all! The
first two weeks of October is the
best time to apply ferti-lome
Winterizer + Weed Preventer 2.
This easy to use granular product
will keep cool-season weeds
such as Poa Annua and Clover
from sprouting by preventing the
dormant seeds they dropped last
winter from ever coming up in the
first place. The lower nitrogenhigher potassium balance of the
fertilizer it contains will also help
promote root hardiness in your
turfgrass that may have been stressed by drought or by disease this
summer. Once daytime temps are below the mid-80’s, any existing
weeds may be sprayed with ferti-lome Weed Free Zone, which
will knock out a variety of weeds including such hard to kill pests
as Dollar Weed and Florida Betony, also known as Rattlesnake
Weed. If your worst weed problem is Nutgrass, spray with Image,
which kills these sedge family weeds and works well even in
cooler weather. Any annoying patches of fungus can be treated
with a dose of ferti-lome F-Stop granular fungicide to kill the
spores before your grass goes into winter dormancy, and you may
also make a final application of Hi-Yield Turf Ranger to kill any
lingering insect pests..
If you’re still being bugged by bugs, apply ferti-lome Systemic Insecticide Drench before
your plants go dormant! It will be taken up as the plant absorbs water, and will
protect your plant from overwintering insects all the way through spring!

Sasanqua Camellias are SUPER! We love
any Camellia, but one we’re partial to definitely has
to be the early flowering sasanqua type of this coolseason bloomer. While many Sasanquas get as tall as
their japonica cousins, several have spreading habits
and may be easily trimmed at about four feet tall or
so. As with all Camellias, Sasanquas perform their
best with afternoon shade in well-drained, acidic
soil. So if you have prairie clay, amend your bed
with Green Thumb Nursery

Play it cool
this fall and
add season

swapping out your
summer color for
plants that will thrive

Summer stresses can

energy before harsh weather arrives by applying

in Potassium, which encourages root growth and
cold hardiness in your plants. Great on any trees and
