As part of the ULB’s 175 anniversary celebrations, the University wants to emphasise scientific
excellence by inviting 13 outstanding personalities – Nobel Prize laureates, winners of the Wolf
Prize or Fields Medal – from such different disciplines as medicine, mathematics, chemistry,
physics, literature, law and economics. This event, unique in Belgium, will give these
personalities the opportunity to present the latest research results in their domains to the public
and to discuss the future role of science and the major challenges facing society in the future.
The free lectures are open both to university members and the public at large. There will be
simultaneous interpretation from French into English and vice-versa. Please register online

Wednesday, 5 May Doctorat honoris causa ceremony
In conferring on them the insignia of Doctor Honoris Causa, the ULB will be honouring these outstanding
scientists and their contribution to advancing knowledge (by invitation).
A Public Forum will be taking place - with the support of the European Commission on Thursday, May 6, in the evening. Here, three generations of scientists will debate the subject:
