Container Terminal Services,
Inc. (ICTSI) is embracing the
evolution of global business
services with the recent launch
of its first ever shared services
unit, the ICTSI Asia Pacific
Business Services, Inc. (APBS).
APBS, which opened for business
last December 2015, was established
to create operational efficiencies and
deliver superior customer experience
through its services. Under the shared
services model, ICTSI pulls scattered
operations from its different business
units into a distinct site service center.
APBS serves as an independent support
organization offering services to ICTSI’s
other ports with the goal of driving

BCT upgrades intermodal facility

Baltic Container Terminal (BCT)
in Gdynia, Poland completed its
railway terminal modernization
project last December.
Part of BCT’s largest investment program,
the modernization project was carried
out in partnership with the Port of Gdynia
Authority and was backed by the European
Union Cohesion Fund under the Operational
Programme Infrastructure and Environment.
With the project complete, BCT’s
new rail facility can service up to 24 full
container trains each day and has an
annual capacity of 500,000 TEUs.
“This joint investment improves the
competitiveness of our terminal and the
port of Gdynia,” says Krzysztof Szymborski,
BCT Chief Executive Officer.
Joint implementation
Mr. Szymborski adds that it was
important that they “were able to
determine the scope of responsibilities
with the Port of Gdynia Authority at the
early stages in order to implement the
project together.”
The Port of Gdynia Authority was
responsible for the development and
modernization of the terminal’s rail
network and other related infrastructure.
For its part, BCT acquired and installed two
rail-mounted gantry cranes from Kocks
Krane GmbH for handling of full container
cranes.
BCT plans to further improve the
terminal’s train service by investing
in electric traction to improve train
maneuvering at the port.
BCT’s new cranes prepare to load containers onto a stack train. Manufactured by Kocks Krane, these rail-mounted gantries are capable of moving over 30
containers per hour.

Sabya made her maiden call at
Basra Gateway Terminal (BGT) in
the Port of Umm Qasr, Iraq last 11
November.

Citing the beginning of a new era
for BGT, Phillip Marsham, BGT Chief
Executive Officer, expressed his delight at
UASC for choosing ICTSI’s Iraqi container
terminal: “We have a growing reputation
in the Iraqi market and we are very proud
of the UASC agreement. This reflects
the importance of focus on an excellent
customer service culture.”
“We are continuing to expand our
facilities to accommodate additional
customers. Together with the unrivaled
skill and experience of our dedicated
workforce, we turn vessels around in an
efficient manner, providing first class
service to our customers,” he adds.
UASC is one of the key shipping
lines calling the Port of Umm Qasr. The
shipping line and its consignees have
expressed satisfaction in using BGT, citing
the terminal’s state-of-the-art reefer and
stripping facilities.

Ever Elite makes maiden call at MICT

(MICT) serviced the maiden call of
the 6,300 TEU capacity Ever Elite
last 17 December 2015. Originating
from the Port of Kaohsiung in
Taiwan, Evergreen’s 300-meter long
container vessel is one of the largest
ships to call the Port of Manila.

Largest K-Line car carrier calls at BIPI

Bauan International Port, Inc. (BIPI)
in Batangas, Philippines recently
serviced the newest and largest pure
car carrier (PCC) vessel in K-Line’s
fleet, the Hawaiian Highway.

With a length overall of 199.96 meters
and gross revenue tonnage of 75,126, the
Hawaiian Highway is capable of carrying
up to 7,500 cars. During the maiden
call, the ship unloaded a total of 3,113
completely built-up units (CBU).

The Manila International Container
Terminal (MICT), together with
the Nagkakaisang Manggagawa
sa Pantalan ng ICTSI (United
Port Workers of ICTSI) – National
Federation of Labor Unions (NMPINAFLU) celebrated the annual
Christmas party last 18 December
2015. The event marks the second
time ICTSI and NMPI-NAFLU held a
joint celebration.

Olongapo City cites ICTSI Foundation for Project AIDE

The government of Olongapo City, through Social of Welfare
Development Office, cited the ICTSI Foundation for its Project
AIDE (Assistance to Improve Daycare Education) program during
the Social Welfare Week celebration last 25-27 November.
Since 2012, Project AIDE has extended assistance to a total of
16 barangay day care centers in the form of facility repairs and
improvement, as well as educational material donations. Photo

ICTSI receives citation
for contribution to Manila Container Port
International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) received an award of
distinction from the Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) for its continuous
support and assistance to the Bureau’s Manila International Container Port
(MICP) operations during the 37th anniversary celebration of the MICP last 14
December.
According to the BOC, ICTSI’s significant contribution to the efficient processing and
releasing of 1,398,982 TEU containers during the period of 1 January to 30 November
last year has made the MICP the bureau’s top port in terms of collection.

VICT docks with Dimension Data

Victoria International Container Terminal has tapped global
ICT solutions and services provider Dimension Data to
deliver the required information technology infrastructure
for the AU$550 million terminal at the Port of Melbourne’s
Webb Dock East.
According to Anders Dømmestrup, VICT CEO, “Dimension
Data was ultimately selected because a tight construction
schedule meant that VICT needed a partner with the experience
and expertise to deliver on time and on target. Ultimately, the
technical infrastructure will be supporting all of VICT’s mission
critical information systems and we trust Dimension Data to
deliver our distinct requirements and draw on the unique expertise
of its global counterparts.”
VICT’s automated container carriers will require Wi-Fi
connectivity across the 35.4 hectare site to function. Dimension
Data will deliver every element of the technical infrastructure up to
the application level, including physical connectivity from the data
center to the site itself, fiber cabling within the site, a customsgrade CCTV network, and more than 60 Cisco Wireless Access
Points. This is in addition to implementing the on-site data center
and providing Infrastructure as a Service (Iaas) for testing and
development from Dimension Data’s Melbourne Managed Cloud
Platform.
Located at Webb Dock East within the largest commercial
port in Australia, VICT will be one of the most automated and
advanced container terminals in the world. The terminal is
expected to handle more than one million TEUs annually. The
success of the project will rely mainly on the underlying network
infrastructure to be provided by Dimension Data.

PICT donates to
SOS Children's
Village Karachi

Pakistan International Container
Terminal (PICT) officers and staff
visited the SOS Children’s Village
in Karachi last December to donate
water heaters and school shoes to
the children living in the village.
Capt. Zafar Iqbal Awan, PICT Chief
Executive Officer, led the visit and turnover
of donations to the organization. Each of
the 16 houses in the village was retrofitted
with water heaters just in time for winter.
Aside from the water heaters and shoes,
the PICT team also distributed gifts to
more than 200 children living in the
community and talked to the staff in an
attempt to gain a deeper understanding of
the organization’s operations.
The SOS Children’s Villages of
Pakistan is a private social welfare
organization that shelters orphans and
abandoned children. Believing that these
children deserve a fair chance in life, the
Children line up to welcome the visitors from
PICT.

village and how the organization runs despite
the challenging circumstances.

SCIPSI grants financial assistance to scholars

Since 2006, the South Cotabato
Integrated Port Services, Inc.
(SCIPSI) has been running a
scholarship program designed to
encourage employees to send their
children to school.
Under the program, two dependents
per employee can qualify for allowance
and additional financial assistance. The
scholarship covers primary up to tertiary
education. Last 1 September, the
management of SCIPSI turned over the
stipend and financial assistance to 47
scholars. The turnover was part of the
company’s 40th anniversary activities.

Admin team wins back to back championships

After a number of game cancellations caused by conflicting work schedules and
uncooperative weather, the championship game of the 2015 ICTSI Basketball
Tournament finally pushed through last 10 November, with the Green Team,
composed of employees from the ICTSI Administration Building, winning the
crown for the second year in a row.
The Green Team fought a close game
against the Maroon Team, who came
close to winning this year’s championship.
The eventual champions were down
four points with just 45 seconds to play.
Mark Anthony Rivera’s heroics during
the final possessions leading to the end
of regulation evened the score at 102
all. Ferdie Franciso forced a foul with
just 11 seconds remaining and sank both
free throws to the give Green Team a
104-102 advantage. The Maroon Team
had two attempts at the free throw line
but only made one. The Green Team
converted on the final possession to win
the game at 105-103.
The final standings in the tournament
are: Green Team, Champion; Maroon
Team, 1st first runner-up; and Black
Team, 2nd runner-up. Jayson Guerrero of
the Green Team earned the Most Valuable
Player award. He was also named to
the mythical team, along with Servillano
Mico, Randy Ariza, Francis Acosta, and
Mark Anthony Rivera.

DIPSSCOR holds second inter-client friendlies

Davao Integrated Port and Stevedoring Services
Corporation (DIPSSCOR) held its second inter-client
basketball and badminton tournaments from 19 September
to 10 October.
A total of eight companies, Del Monte Fresh Produce,
Lapanday Foods Corp., Lorenzo Shipping, Maersk Line – Davao
Branch, Philippines-Japan Activated Carbon Corp., Premium
Activated Carbon, Inc., Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) – Davao
Port Management Office, and NMC Container Lines, participated
in the tournament.
The basketball event lasted for six weeks and was held at the
PPA Davao covered court. The badminton tournament, on the
other hand, was held last 3 October. Both tournaments used a
single round-robin elimination system.
The Philippine-Japan Activated Carbon emerged as the
basketball champion after beating DIPSSCOR in the final game.
Meanwhile, Premium Activated Carbon won third place after
beating Del Monte Fresh Produce. Janel Bentain of PhilippinesJapan Activated Carbon was named most valuable player of the
tournament.
For the badminton tournament, PPA earned medals for both
the mixed and women’s events. The Men’s Doubles crown went
to Del Monte Fresh Produce.
The sports events are part of DIPSSCOR’s anniversary
celebration activities aimed at promoting camaraderie among
employees and stronger ties with clients.

SBITC among top investors to receive
the inaugural Mabuhay Business Awards
Subic Bay International Terminal Corp.
(SBITC) was among the 15 Subic
Freeport-registered companies to receive
the inaugural Mabuhay Business Awards
from the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority
(SBMA) last December.
Citing the companies’ US$3 billion worth
of combined investments and 40,000 jobs
created, Roberto Garcia, SBMA Chairman,
praised the locators for breathing life into
the region’s economy: “The awards we’re
giving them are just a small measure of our

Citations were given to select business
locators from the following sectors: general
business, information and communication
technology, leisure, manufacturing and
maritime, and logistics for their indispensable
contribution to the growth and development
of the Subic Bay Freeport, as well as to the
country’s gross domestic product.
SBITC started operating the New Container
Terminal 1 in 2008 and was awarded the
concession to operate the New Container
Terminal 2 in 2011. SBITC has been serving
the growing economy of the northern regions of
the Philippines through world class container
handling services in Subic since 2000, initially
at the Naval Supply Depot Terminal of the
Subic Bay Freeport.

The ICTSI Public Relations Office launches the ICTSI Group
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Brochure, a company
publication highlighting ICTSI’s overall CSR strategy as a
corporate citizen of its host country, city and community. The
brochure contains ICTSI’s CSR statement and an overview of its
approach to corporate philanthropy, including a report on the
first five years of the ICTSI Foundation, the Group’s CSR arm.
The brochure aims to engage stakeholders and subsidiaries into
replicating what ICTSI Manila and Philippine headquarters have
been doing for its beneficiaries in the Philippines. For copies of
