Smartcity is a €31 million project, pioneered in Spain, that aims to
develop a sustainable energy management model for cities.
International companies such as IBM and Enel join forces with Spanish
multinationals such as Endesa and Acciona to achieve an optimal
integration of renewable energies into the power grid.
The objective of the project is to demonstrate that a 20% energy saving
and a CO2 emission reduction of 6,000 tons per year are possible.

8 of Andalusia’s 10 public universities offer Technical Science degrees. 68%
of ICT employees have a technical qualification (compared to 58% in Spain
overall). Andalusia also has 300 ICT training centres. 35% of all employees

5. ANDALUSIA OFFERS THE RIGHT ENVIRONMENT FOR INTERNATIONAL INVESTORS
The region has a network of technology-focused developments that are
devoted to its science and technology clusters. These strategic investments
include:
• Technology centres and technology parks;
• Centres and foundations dedicated to innovation and technology; and
• European Centres of Enterprise and Innovation (CEEI).
Notable parks include the Technological Park of Andalusia (PTA) Malaga, which
is specialized in the area of ICT, the Cartuja Scientific and Technological Park
(PCT Cartuja), which is located in Seville and focuses on cross-sector R&D or the
Health Sciences Technological Park (PTS) Granada.
These parks offer access to an available and affordable workforce, as well as
offices and other commercial space at a very competitive cost. The facilities
are, furthermore, environmentally friendly and located in attractive settings.
Andalusia has the first and only Spanish Cloud
Computing Centre in Seville, partly funded by
Vodafone and Microsoft

7. INVESTMENT INCENTIVES

Andalusia offers industrial and R&D projects a variety of incentives, for example:
1. Incentive Program for the Promotion of Innovation and Business Development (2009-2013)
 UP TO 50% OF ELIGIBLE INVESTMENTS (depending on the company’s size), payable through
direct incentives, subsidies, loans, etc.
 ONLINE APPLICATION and response within two months
2. Jeremy Fund (Joint European Resources for Micro- to Medium-Sized Enterprises)
 TOTAL OF €235 MILLION available in the form of risk capital, loans, and guarantees
 75% funded by the European Commission (ERDF) and 25% by the Andalusian government
 Provides financial support to foreign companies who want to establish in Andalusia.
3. Technology Corporation of Andalusia (CTA) for R&D and Industry-Academia Cooperation
 FINANCIAL AID CONSISTING OF A 25% GRANT and a 75% loan (0% interest/3 year grace period)
 Has funded 235 R&D projects in Andalusia to date
4. Job Training Incentives from the Andalusian Ministry of Employment
 TRAINING OR HIRING INCENTIVES (€3,000 - €4,750) for hiring permanent or young workers
