Aikido
A “nonviolent” martial art, Aikido provides excellent physical and mental conditioning, enabling a person under attack to
assume control of the situation without contributing to the creation of violence. A beautiful and enlivening art, Aikido
is a philosophy with physical expression. For kids there are many benefits of training beyond the physical skills attained.
Children are exposed to traditional Japanese language, culture and customs in a fun environment. Art and calligraphy,
summer camp and civic exposure are some of the activities designed to provide well-rounded tutelage. Children gain
confidence and a sense of accomplishment, and improve their focus, and learn to work together, all of which translate to
greater success in school and a more disciplined child at home.
Aikido of San Leandro was founded in 1984 at 1033 MacArthur Blvd. and is under the sole instruction of Pat Hendricks
Sensei. Currently, Pat Sensei holds a 7th degree black belt, and has studied Aikido for more than 34 years, with extensive
training in Iwama, Japan. Well-known for her effective teaching methods, Pat Sensei attracts students from all over the
world. In our creative, challenging atmosphere, beginners are consistently taught with care and respect. Feel free to visit
