AUCTION ITEM LISTING
LIVE AUCTION ITEMS
L-1
Radio City Music Hall – Four tickets
You went for the first time with your grandparents when you were 3, but
all you remember is what they told you. Next time, many years later
when you were 19, your trip got canceled because your parents thought
you’d rather go skiing. Oh how wrong they were! Now, you’re a little
older, much wiser, and can afford to take yourself, your favorite honey,
and your two extraordinary children to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular that stars the world famous Radio City Rockettes in an unparalleled show featuring their signature eye-high kicks, precision choreography and exciting show stopping numbers. Tickets are for the 2 p.m. show
on Sunday, November 21, Row Orch 6R, Seats 605-608. Generously
donated by Foundation Board Members Shirley Brereton and Sue Doyle.
L-2
Dutchess Rocker
You’ve seen it for a few years now, the Marist Rocker. But you’ve never quite
gotten to the point of wanting it in your home because, frankly, you didn’t
go to Marist. You went to Dutchess. You got your start at Dutchess and
have been longing for the opportunity to rock your babies and grandbabies
in a Dutchess Rocker. Well, here’s your chance. At long last, the Dutchess
Community College Rocker. Made entirely from solid maple hardwoods by
Standard Chair of Gardner, this chair features a steam bent crown in cherry
finish, hand-painted gold beading, and the pièce de résistance: the Dutchess
Community College seal laser engraved at the crown. Generously donated
by Barbara Liesenbein, retired DCC Library Director.
L-3
Cashmere Cape
You’ve heard the expression that putting silk on a goat still leaves you with
a goat, but what if you used cashmere? While it might not be considered
normal to wear cashmere to the beach, you simply don’t care anymore
since you bid on and won your sumptuous two-ply cashmere cape at the
DCC Foundation auction. Cashmere, put simply, is the goat’s gift to
mankind. Established in 1986, Best of Scotland is located in a charming
penthouse showroom on 5th Ave. and offers only the best quality Scottish
cashmeres available – those of Todd & Duncan, the premier spinner and
dyer of cashmere yarn worldwide. Generously donated by DCC alum
and Foundation Advisory Board member Charles Ahrens.
L-4
Men’s V-neck Sweater
For your birthday, your wife and kids did right by you when they bought
the Q-Link Performance bracelet (the very one that Justin Rose and Ted
Purdy have been sporting out on the course lately) with the set of Taylor
Made Burner 2.0’s. Now all you need to finish the world’s most perfect
golfer’s picture is superior quality clothing to match. Bid to win this
striking two-ply cashmere v-neck sweater and your picture becomes
complete! Established in 1986, Best of Scotland is located in a charming
penthouse showroom on 5th Ave. and offers only the best quality
Scottish cashmeres available – those of Todd & Duncan, the premier
spinner and dyer of cashmere yarn worldwide. Generously donated by
DCC alum and Foundation Advisory Board member Charles Ahrens.
L-5
Indoor Bench with Baskets
Where on earth did your daughter put her ballet shoes? And your son’s
baseball glove? You know you’ve seen them, but can’t remember where for
the life of you. But the last straw was not being able to find an empty spot
to sit while you don your Merrells for an afternoon walk. Bring order to
your busy entryway with this hand-crafted and expertly constructed bench
with storage baskets. Made out of poplar and oak and painted white with a
natural oak seat, this built-to-survive (yes, survive!) bench will last through
years of everyday use. The cubbies provide a home for shoes, hats, athletic
gear (or anything else you can think of) while the bench offers a much
needed spot for your family to put on, or take off, their shoes. Built and
kindly donated by DCC staff member Matt Hanlon.
L-6
Half-day Mushroom Foray
I’ve heard that falling in love is like eating mushrooms, you never
know if it's the real thing until it's too late. Wouldn’t it be nice, then,
to have someone qualified to help you discover love as well as you can
discover mushrooms! Be the lucky recipient of this bid and get your
hiking shoes ready to go exploring in the Hudson Valley to find what
local mushrooms we have available to us, and what we can (or more
importantly can’t) do with them. Note: Time and location are to be
mutually suitable. Courtesy of DCC Faculty Emeriti Bill Bakaitis.
L-7
Week in Florida with Four Disney One-Day Park-Hopper Passes
You and I both know it, so don’t bother trying to deny anything: you
have an ongoing conversation with the chipmunk that lives by the stairs,
and your friends truly believe that Disney mice dress you in the mornings. Couple that with the fact that you are desperate to visit with Shamu
and Flipper, and it’s clear that you need to get yourself to Orlando, and
FAST! Win this item so you and three of your friends can enjoy the
luxurious accommodations at Westgate Town Center in Orlando from
March 13-20, 2011. You’ll stay in a fully-equipped vacation suite, and
will have access to such on-site amenities as 13 heated outdoor pools and
hot tubs, an exercise facility, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, bike
rentals and marina. However, if you decide to venture away from
Westgate, we’ll get you on your way by throwing in four one-day Park
Hopper passes for Disney. Generously donated by Foundation Board
Member Shirley Brereton and Walt Disney World Co.

Chest of Drawers with Original Mirror, Oak, c1910
At the Labor Day Stormville Flea market you saw the most interesting
set of oak dining room chairs. They were older (in other words, they
were made well), but they needed quite a bit of TLC and you weren’t
sure if you had the skills needed to do the job. Not one to be daunted
by technicalities, you purchased them and proceeded to restore them to
their original beauty and splendor. Now before you stands a magnificent chest of drawers with nothing less than the original mirror! Yes,
you see some signs of age, and there is not a doubt in your mind that
this chest has many stories to tell given its current less-than-perfect
condition, however you can also see that this chest has good bones. It’s
solid oak, the drawers are dovetailed, and there is only one panel on
the back. This is a chest worthy of your attentions, and worthy of your
bid. Kindly donated by Foundation supporter Judy Milne.
L-9
Two Washes and Waxes for your Car
I know you’re thinking that the love I have for my car, by now, has
diminished. After all, it’s only a car. But you’d be wrong. And while my
husband constantly reminds me that it is an inanimate object, I remind
him that it’s loved almost as much as he is. And that when I slide onto
my heated leather seat, program my navi for a day on the road, and
crank my current favorite XM station, it is all I can do not to weep with
joy over the sheer prospect of being within its safe, strong walls. How,
then, could I possibly allow my paint job and power-windows to be
anything less than picture perfect? I simply can’t. And I’m sure you feel
the same way about your car, which is why you will happily bid away for
this wonderful item. Win this bid and get your car washed and waxed
twice by Foundation supporter George Mann. Detailing does not apply
to SUVs or trucks, and must be completed by June 30, 2011.
L-10 Puerto Rico Time Share
According to the Farmer’s Almanac, this coming winter is slated to be
one of the coldest and snowiest on record! Here’s your chance to
forever escape our winter wonderland and jet off for a week in tropical
Puerto Rico. The winner of this bid will become the owner of a oneweek, three-bedroom time share in the lovely Mediterranean-style
resort community of Club Cala in Palmas del Mar on the Caribbean side
of Puerto Rico in Humacao. Only an hour from San Juan airport, the
resort has such amenities as two golf courses, tennis center, riding
stables, sailing and fishing charters, snorkeling and SCUBA trips, gym,
beach and yacht clubs, a casino, walking and jogging trails, and many
restaurants ranging from pizza to haute Puerto Rican cuisine. Nearby
you will find Old San Juan and El Yunque, a National Rain Forest Park
with hiking trails, as well as many fascinating Puerto Rican towns and
villages. This condo is in the Beach Village area of Palmas, with balcony
views of the Caribbean and Viequies Island. Offering a fully equipped
kitchen (market on-site), WiFi, cable and laundry facilities, the condo
sleeps eight total in three bedrooms and a sleeping loft, and has two
full bathrooms. Even though you’ll have access to the Beach Villas'
private pool, you might opt for the beach as it is only a minute’s walk
from your bedside. Your choice of weeks 51 or 52 overlooking a
recreational harbor (these weeks usually include Christmas or New
Year’s), or week 13 overlooking a garden. Annual maintenance dues
are currently $650, and a small fee for transfer of ownership paperwork
should be expected (est. $100). Generously donated by Foundation
Board Member Jeff Smith and his lovely wife Lynn.
L-11
Garden Bench
There is always music amongst the trees in the garden, but our hearts
must be very quiet to hear it. What better way to hear that music than
by sitting on your new, finely crafted garden bench. Think about it:
How quickly the days pass, and how easily we forget to relax, read a
book, or sit with a loved one and discuss the events of the day. If you
are the lucky winner of this bid, you will have the distinct pleasure of
doing all that and more. Not to mention having a comfortable spot
to be still enough to hear the music amongst the trees. Superbly made
and donated by Foundation supporter James Galluzi.
L-12 Princess Feather Quilt, c1920
When life gives you scraps, make a quilt - or at least stop and take a
moment to appreciate one that someone else made. This beautiful c1920
white and turquoise Princess Feather quilt is sure to become a family
heirloom. According to legend, the name ‘Princess feather’ is derived from
the words “prince’s feather”, since three white feathers are part of the Prince
of Wales emblem. This pattern, which was popular in the mid-19th century, represented a quilter’s finest work as it is more complex than many
other patterns. Generously donated by Foundation supporter Judy Milne.
L-13 Bradford Renaissance Portrait Sessions
Two/Choice - Widely recognized as one of the top portraitists in the
world today, Bradford Rowley's portraits of distinction can be seen in
many of the most luxurious homes throughout North America as well as
abroad. Having a passion and love of the arts from a very early age,
Bradford drew inspiration from the great masters of portraiture from the
early Renaissance Period to the present. In today's world where most
photographers are using the same digital techniques to enhance their
portraits, Bradford has chosen a very different path – the classic techniques of the old world masters. Bid on and win one of these two
portrait sessions with Bradford and get ready to hang your museum
quality portrait in the most prominent spot in your home. One portrait
is valued at $5,000 (20”) and the other at $3,000 (14”). Special thanks
to Bradford Renaissance Portraits for their generous support.
L-14 Stained Glass Rendition of Bowne Hall
You never tire of recounting the fond memories of your years at
Dutchess Community College. As a matter of fact, just recently you were
telling your kids about the fascinating history of Bowne Hall, and about
how all of your classes were in that one building since the campus had yet
to grow. The artist has designed this original stained glass rendition of
Bowne Hall in the hopes that someone just like you would not only
recognize the skill and commitment it takes to create such pieces of art,
but also value their history. Hang this striking piece of art in a window
that gets nice light in order to see the captured true colors and textures.
Graciously created and donated by Foundation supporter Gerrard Philipp.
L-15 Dinner for Six in your Home
I think Julia Child hit the nail on the head when she wrote that the only
time to eat diet food was while your steak was cooking. Be the lucky
winner of this bid and experience the Rock-n-Rollercoaster of dinner
parties! Every year you hear about it… the music, the wine, the company, but most importantly, the food. This is your chance to experience the culinary talents of our very own food-services director Brian
Potter as he comes to your home to prepare a meal you and your five
friends will remember for years to come. Note: Meal to be scheduled
within one year and at the convenience of the winner and the chef.
Compliments of Foundation supporters Brian Potter & Sodexo.
L-16
Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society – Two Books of Tickets (each
book containing 2 tickets for each of their 7 shows); Terrapin Gift Certificate
If music is the wine that fills the cup of silence, then your cup is about
to run over! This is the 30th year that the Rhinebeck Chamber Music
Society will be presenting world-class chamber musicians to enthusiastic
audiences in the Mid-Hudson Valley. All concerts are presented in
Rhinebeck at The Church of the Messiah, an 1897 Gothic edifice with
superb acoustics, and is preceded by an informal talk and followed by a
reception with the artists. And how about making it a true night out for
one of the shows by first indulging in a scrumptious dinner at Terrapin,
where they use elements both historic and eclectic to present you with
surprising, fresh and dynamic dishes to delight both body and soul.
L-17 Dutchess Golf & Country Club – Two Foursomes
Two/Choice – You see him take out his 3 wood, walk to the tee-box,
address his ball, and proceed to make a perfect 200-yard drive smack
down the center of the fairway. You watch him do this, all the while
wondering how on earth he got so much better since last season!
Allow me to tell you his secret: Last year he took home both of these
two foursomes at Dutchess Golf & Country Club, which allowed him to
play on a magnificently challenging 18-hole course that was designed
by a member of the famous Park family of Scotland. This year, if you
have anything to say about it, it’ll be you and three of your friends that
will be the ones who improve your golfing skills. Compliments of
Foundation supporter Dutchess Golf & Country Club.
L-18
Midweek Getaway for Two at Mohonk Mountain House;
Family Membership to Mohonk Preserve
Designated as a National Historic landmark, Mohonk Mountain house
is ready to make you feel like Elise McKenna in the movie classic
“Somewhere in Time” when she strolls through beautiful gardens, parasol
in hand, and returns to find afternoon tea and scones waiting for her.
Whoever said that life’s simple luxuries were a thing of the past has not
had the pleasure of visiting Mohonk Mountain House. Enjoy a midweek, non-holiday, non-peak season overnight stay for two. Surrounded by acres of forest, with activities such as ice skating and horseback riding inviting you to go out and play, you will be enveloped by
old-world charm with the luxury of every amenity you can think of. In
fact we’re so confident you’ll like the area that we’ll throw in a
family membership to the Mohonk Preserve, allowing you yearlong access to nearly 7,000 acres of mountain ridges, forests, fields,
streams, ponds, and other unique and beautiful places. Dinner,
breakfast and lunch during your stay are included. Compliments of
Foundation supporters Jackie Appledorn, Mohonk Mountain House
and Mohonk Preserve.
L-19 Rams Horn Village Time Share
When I think of Colorado I think of wildlife that walks right up to my
front door, slopes of waist-high powder, and of mountains so majestic
they take my breath away. Bid on and win this full-week time share at
the fabulous Rams Horn Village in majestic Ester Park, Colorado and
you’re just a short walk away to skiing, hiking, and Estes village (home
of the original hotel about which "The Shining" was written) with lots of
eclectic shops and cafes. Or, if you’d rather, stay on property and enjoy
the breathtaking views from the outdoor heated pool and hot-tubs.
Nestled between pristine mountain slopes and only an hour from
Denver International Airport, this location enjoys the proximity to the
city while offering respite for the soul. Arrive on either Friday or Saturday, ready to enjoy the ambiance and the fresh air for a glorious week in
the mountains. Available year round, but these fabulous cabin accommodations sell out far in advance. Generously donated by Foundation
Board Member Sue Doyle and her husband Rob. Contact Sue and Rob to
make mutually agreeable arrangements for anytime in 2011.
L-20 World of Wine Basket
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote that wine is bottled poetry. A proverb
wisely advised us that the sharper the berry, the sweeter the wine. The
Roman saying in vino veritas holds true still to this day. Truth is, folks,
for as long as we’ve been putting pen to paper or voice to song, we
have been extolling both the vices and virtues of the grape. Drink your
way through the world by winning this deliciously stocked ‘world of
wine’ basket. Courtesy of the DCC Foundation Board.
L-21 Brooklyn Bridge and Lower Manhattan Walking Tour
Get your walking shoes ready for the most dazzling tour of Lower
Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge you will ever experience. Dutchess
Community College Professor and New York City history expert George
Stevens will regale you with tales and facts that will have your head
spinning during your personal day-long tour beginning in New York’s
first suburb, Brooklyn Heights. You will then proceed across the Brooklyn Bridge and explore the sites and history of lower Manhattan. Your
excursion will include round-trip train transportation and lunch, and will
be an all-day affair beginning at approximately 8 a.m. and lasting until
early evening. Scheduling of your tour will be at the consideration of all
involved. Compliments of DCC faculty members George Stevens and
Richard MacNamee, and DCC staff member Susan Moore.
L-22 Relax, Beautify, and Indulge:
Ambiance Zen Day Spa gift certificate, De’s Jewelers gift certificate,
Champagne, Flowers from Wonderland Florist, Candle & Jean Paul
"Classique" for Women perfume, Back-to-Health Chiropractic evaluation & adjustment, Three Acupuncture Sessions, Hair Cut and Style & a
Russian shawl. Someone very wise wrote, ‘Forget love. I’d rather fall in
chocolate.’ If you feel that way as well, then it’s safe to say you are a
lover of the finer things in life… the things that, some might argue, are
the very reason we are able to make it to the weekend. Would you
like a magnificent massage, a chic cut, sweet-smelling snapdragons,
bountiful beauty products and some bubbly? Be the winner of this
smartly paired group of items and you will wonder no more what it is
to feel like the pampered and privileged few. Compliments of Ambiance Zen Day Spa, De’s Jewelers, Wonderland Florist, Toni Emery, Carl
Denti, Diana Pollard, Back-to-Health Chiropractic, Dr. Detlef Wolf and
Salon Doriano.
L-23 Marist Rocker
Generations of Marist babies have been rocked to sleep in the Marist
Rocker. Made entirely of solid maple hardwood, this rocker has a laseretched Marist College seal on the crown and hand-painted gold beading
throughout. With a steam bent crown in cherry finish and a body
painted a handsome black satin, this rocker is so comfortable that it will
make it even more difficult for you to put your novel down and go to
bed. The chair will be shipped directly from the factory to the winner,
free of charge. Compliments of Tim Massie and Marist College.
L-24 Dyson Racing VIP Race Package - Lime Rock Park
April 20th, 1957 was the first day of racing at Lime Rock Park with a
crowd of 6,600 enjoying the thrill of the race. Now in their 54th year,

choice. Set in a natural park like setting without grandstands, it is
unique among American racetracks. Get together with fellow race
