The Wies Church [7]
The Wies Church, located in Steingaden in Upper Bavaria, is one of
the loveliest Rococo buildings worldwide. On June 14, 1738, a farmer´s
wife, Maria Loy, saw tears on a
dilapidated wooden figure of the
scourged saviour. This miracle led to
a pilgrame rush to see the sculpture.
In 1740, a chapel was built to the
statue. Nowadays, the Wies Church

World-famous, historical buildings, dreamy landscapes,

centuries-old tradition of wine
cultivation – Franconia’s beauty
has many different aspects.
There is much to explore on
a trip to romantic wine towns
and friendly locals. You will

all your senses. Wine has been
cultivated in Franconia for over
1,200 years. Many well-known,
historical figures have sampled
the precious wines and have
immortalized their experience
in their own words. For example, the famous German poet
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
once wrote: “Too bad that you
can’t pet this wine.” You have
every reason to look forward
to sampling Franconian wine
as well as experiencing Franconia’s other treasures: the
medieval towns and hamlets,
as well as friendly people who
are committed to preserving
the unique treasures of their
home.

”Big city” flair and the fascination of Christmas markets, adventure in the snow, winter sports activities
and the beauty of the Alps: Bavaria’s unparalleled
range of attractions has made it one of Europe’s most
popular holiday destinations. Bavaria offers a huge
variety of winter magic.
Winter sports
2
Bavaria as an affordable winter
sports destination [1, 4] is characterized by its multitude of
ski resorts, each with its own
charm and character, like the
Spitzingsee skiing area, Garmisch-Partenkirchen (with the
highest mountain of Germany
- the Zugspitze), the Großer
Arber and Allgäu´s largest winter sport arenas in Oberstdorf.
The slopes in the Bavarian Alps
and the Bavarian Forests have
everything the skier‘s heart
desires: dizzying descents for
the more advanced; and gentle
slopes for beginners, families
and just-for-fun skiers.

Activities & Events
Bavaria’s winter resorts have
something for everyone and
are not the exclusive preserve
of downhill skiers. Cross
country trails [4], sled runs,
snowshoe hikes, racing down
an ice canal on the World Cup
and World Champions‘ track
at Königsee or the SaltTimeJourney in Berchtesgaden [3]
are just a taste of a wide range
3
As soon as you arrive, you will feel right “at home on the range” on one of
Bavaria’s numerous golf courses located in Bavaria, primarily in the lake
regions near Tegernsee, Chiemsee and Lake Starnberg, in Berchtesgadener
Land and near Neuschwanstein Castle. Even in Munich, awarded “the best
city for golfers”, you will find quite a few great golf courses. Enjoy one of
the many 9- and 18-hole facilities where you can indulge in your passion.
of activities. In the course
of time, prevailing climatic
and topographic conditions
have caused Bavaria‘s skiing
venues, such as GarmischPartenkirchen, Berchtesgaden,
Ruhpolding and Oberstdorf, to
specialize in certain sporting
disciplines.

Culture & Cities
The magic of the festive
season is nowhere quite as
evident as at the Christmas
markets [2]. The tempting
aromas of mulled wine, sweet
roasted almonds and gingerbread create an unforgettable
atmosphere. Come and visit
Bavaria´s world-famous Christmas markets in Nuremberg,
Kempten, Prien am Chiemsee
and Regensburg, just to name
a few.

Alpine Road [3]
The Romantic Road, the triad
of nature, culture and hospitality has been the trademark for
almost 60 years. Running from
the Main River to the Alps, it
is Germany’s best-known and
most popular tourist route. The
name Romantic Road itself expresses what many guests feel
while seeing medieval towns,
historic monuments and
breathtaking castles: fascination and a sense of going back
in time. From Würzburg to Füssen, the Romantic Road opens
up to a wealth of European
history, art and culture. On the
way from north to south, the
landscape changes from river
valleys, fertile agricultural land,
forests and meadows to dramatic mountain scenery.

Alpamare
The Alpamare was Europe’s
first waterpark when it opened
in 1970, and continues to be
the industry’s trendsetter with
new innovations every year.
The Alpamare offers both fun
and relaxation for the entire
family. Seven long and adventurous waterslides, Europe’s
first indoor surfing facility and a
wave pool are great fun. Health
and wellness can be found in
the unique iodine pool; various
whirlpools, bubbles and massage jets enhance relaxation
