Musée d’art moderne et contemporain de Saint-Etienne Métropole 07 Site Le Corbusier : unique in Europe To keep in mind Did you know? The biggest urban and European architectural site of Le Corbusier is at Firminy. Site Le Corbusier brings together 4 historical buildings and has received the 20th Century Heritage accreditation. The Firminy-Vert district, which symbolises industrial France during the ‘Trente Glorieuses’ (‘thirty glorious years’ or the years of reconstruction following the Second World War), received the Grand Prix for Urban Planning in 1961. The architect Le Corbusier co-chaired the association for the synthesis of the plastic arts with Matisse and he also corresponded with Chagall. In 1950, he was called in India by the Prime Minister Nehru to build a major city symbol of peace. In Bagdad, he built his second world olympic stadium with the Fiminy’s one. A Utopia Accomplished Absolute must-see! Site Le Corbusier tells part of the story of the grand social and urban utopias of the past century. These utopias were born as a result of a coming together of visionary architects and bold professionals who shared the same belief: architecture and modern urban planning could help build a better world. Wednesdays and Saturdays guided tours are very appreciated. Do not forget to make a reservation. Knowledgeable guides will give you the keys to understanding 20th century architecture. Enjoy the stunning play of light during the free morning tour of the church of SaintPierre. ille ©V de F ir y min To discover Firminy’s site proposes you 2 movies, a permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions, game booklet, indoor and outdoor visit tours, shows, creative workshops, architectural models, conferences, 2 stores, etc. And take a good, close look - because here the concrete walls hold many surprises: walls designed as musical scores, pews shaped like musical notes, light shafts and skylights, etc. Where?
