Volume 1, Issue 2 The Buyer’s Flyer April 2010 East Tennessee PurchasingAssociation Special points of interest: • ETPA Board Meeting, May 6, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Peerless Restaurant in Johnson City, TN • ETPA Membership Meeting, May 6, 2010, 3:30 p.m. at the Peerless Restaurant in Johnson City, TN Message from the President It’s been an exciting quarter for ETPA, and the forecast for the remainder of the year reads “fast paced” as we ramp up for our Business Matchmaking event in July and our Professional Development Conference in October. Business Matchmaking is shaping up in an outstanding manner in that the following 16 organizations have agreed to participate as matchmakers and the planning committee continues to receive additional commitments weekly. Some of the matchmaking entities that will participate are: • ETPA Business Matchmaking Event, July 22, 2010 at Rothchild’s Catering and Conference Center (See page 6) Ameresco B & W Y-12 City of Chattanooga City of Knoxville Comcast KCDC Knox County Knoxville News-Sentinel Knoxville Utilities Board Pellissippi State Community College Pilot Travel Centers Public Building Authority The University of Tennessee Trane Vaughn & Melton Consulting Engineers Volkswagen 2010 ETPA Officers 2 2010 ETPA Committee Chairs 3 Message from the Treasurer 3 Birthday Greetings! 3 This year we plan to have 31 matchmaking entities, 24 tradeshow vendors, and total participation of small to mid-size businesses in the neighborhood of 375. ETPA Quarterly Meeting details 4 ETPA Quarterly Meeting Registration Form 5 ETPA Business Matchmaking 6 Also on the horizon is the upcoming professional development conference that we will combine with TAPP to host in Pigeon Forge on October 20th through the 22nd. TAPP is looking forward to executing this joint venture with us, and the planning committee shall do its best to significantly lower the cost of attending the training/education offered by acquiring a number of tradeshow participants. Note that we'll be sending out a survey in the next month or so that asks each of you to tell us which NIGP- sponsored courses and round table topics of discussion you would like to see offered at this conference. Please do take about 15 minutes to fill out the survey when you receive it so that the training will address your organizational and professional development needs. Membership Invoice 7 Inside this issue: Diversity Spotlight 8 Business on Demand 9 2010 Veterans Conference 10 Congratulations! 10 Additionally, we are preparing to extend the opportunity to many of our ETPA members to invite tradeshow vendors to participate in this event. I say “opportunity” because a discount will be available for the inviting member/organization for every tradeshow vendor they receive a commitment from, which will defray their cost for participation in the Matchmaking event. Finally, I do hope that you'll make every effort to attend our upcoming general membership meeting at the Peerless Restaurant in Johnson City on May 6, 2010 at 3:30 pm where we'll review the status of planning these two key events and enjoy fellowship with one another. I especially want to encourage the Knoxville region’s ETPA members to make the drive to Johnson City in return for all the times that the ETPA members in upper East Tennessee have joined us here in Knoxville. Again – it's an honor to serve as your president, and I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming general membership meeting on May the 6th in Johnson City. ________________________________ BOYCE H. This event provides small businesses throughout East Tennessee the opportunity to describe the products and services they offer in a short face-to-face meeting with governmental and large “for profit” firms. Last year’s event was a tremendous success, with nearly 300 businesses in attendance. Currently, we are registering the governmental and large firms to serve as “matchmakers” at the event. If your agency would like to participate as a matchmaker or you know of a company that would like to participate, please visit www.etpanews.org/matchmakingevent.html for more details. The cost per matchmaker is $280 with all fees going to pay for the cost of the event. Please note that we need commitments from the matchmakers by April 30 if they wish to participate. We would appreciate your assistance in helping us publicize the event. The website registration for small businesses wishing to attend will open on May 24, 2010 and close on June 18, 2010. Please feel free to send out information to your suppliers about the event or have them visit our website at www.etpanews.org for forthcoming details. Have more questions about the event? Contact Boyce Evans at [email protected]. Volunteers Needed – Business Matchmaking Event, July 22, 2010 Can’t attend the Business Matchmaking event as a Matchmaker? Then come help us the day of the event! We will need several people to work the event, helping to sign-in participants, monitor areas, and guide people to the right locations. The event is from 8:00 to 4:00 and we need help during the entire event. Come for a few hours or come for the whole day. It is a good way to get some networking time in with other procurement folks and suppliers. If you are willing to volunteer, please contact Penny Owens at [email protected].
