Large Play Apparatus
Health and Safety
Summer 13
We set ourselves many aims in the Autumn
of 2006 to have a positive impact on the
children and school.
The aims included….
∗
To develop the children’s social and
play skills
∗
To enhance levels of physical activity
∗
To encourage healthier lifestyles
∗
To make good use of the school
grounds
∗
∗
∗
∗
Throughout the past few years we have
consulted with the children, Play Leaders,
School Council, staff and parents to review
and develop the good practice. With all their
contributions we aim to continue to improve
the quality of play within the school.
Part of the outside provision includes the
Large Apparatus in the large playground
area. We know how much the children enjoy
using the apparatus and we know the health
benefits for the children from using such
equipment.
We would like to share some health and
safety information with you regarding the
safe use of the equipment. The teaching
staff and Play Leaders aim to ensure the
safety of the children during the school day
and during lunchtime. However, we also
know how much the children enjoy using it
after school. During these times we look to
you, the parents for support and advocate
that you monitor the use of the equipment
by your child with the safety rules in mind.

‘Top Five Tips’
For using the Monkey Bars Safely
1. The child must be tall enough to play
on the monkey bars - they must be able
reach and grip the first monkey bar
tightly whilst standing on the starting
bar.
2. The children must use the bars for
swinging across to the end using hand
and arm strength - they must not hang
upside down.
3. Only one child must use the bars at
one time.
4. Children must queue from the
playground side to use the equipment.
5. Children must use both hands to
move across the monkey bars (not to
hang one handed during the crossing).
Do step on the
last bar before
getting off.
Do have only
two people doing
chin-ups at one
time.
