The date for Easter, since the Council of Nicea in
A.D. 325, has been the first Sunday after the first full
moon after the vernal equinox (between March 22
and April 25). The date of Easter determines the
dates of other movable feasts, such as the Ascension
and Pentecost, as well as the number of weeks before
Lent and after Pentecost.

L ENTEN R EGULATIONS
Abstinence: Everyone fourteen years of age and
older is bound to abstain from meat on Good Friday.
Fasting: is observed by all Catholics who are 18
years of age but not yet 60 years of age. Those
bound by this rule may take only one full meal. Two
smaller meals are permitted as necessary to maintain
strength according to one’s needs, but eating solid
foods between meals is not permitted. Fasting is
observed on Good Friday and, where possible, on
Holy Saturday in preparation for renewing of our
Baptismal commitment at Easter.

A NNUAL G OOD F RIDAY C OLLECTION
FOR THE H OLY L AND
During our Good Friday services on April 3, we
will take up the annual collection for the Holy Land.
It is a Pontifical Collection, administered by the
Vatican’s Congregation for the Oriental Churches.
This collection helps the Franciscans, who have
been in the Holy Land since 1217, to maintain the
Holy Places which mark significant events in Jesus’
life, such as Bethlehem, Nazareth, and Jerusalem.
The life of Christians in the Holy Land has become
intolerable.
We can help the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem to
support 40 schools as well as to construct, repair,
and operate affordable housing, convents,
orphanages, parish rectories and halls in the Holy
Land, keeping Christianity alive. The primary
means of support for this work is the annual Good
Friday Collection. Please be generous.
C ALLA L ILIES FOR THE C HURCH
Once again, we ask for your calla lilies
or any white flowers to decorate the
Altar of Repose on Holy Thursday, and
the Sanctuary for Easter.
If you can bring calla lilies from your
yard, please bring them to the sacristy
before Holy Thursday, April 2.
