Using Your Offertory Envelopes
Do you know…
What are the benefits of using my numbered
offertory envelope?

The envelope number automatically
identifies your contributions for tax receipt
purposes.
 Gifts “wrapped” in numbered offertory
envelopes make it possible for the parish staff
to record your giving into our database. Use of
your offertory envelope is the only identifiable
way of confirming your attendance for
purposes of being a sponsor for Baptism,
Confirmation or Marriage.
Please remember to use your envelope each
week, even if at times you are not able to give
a monetary gift.
Please treat your weekly gift to God with the
care and respect you would any gift that you
give. Please “wrap” your gift in the
envelope with your name on it that is
provided to you each month to insure that it
is properly recorded.
Registration Packets (white folders) are
located at the entrance of the church on
either side of the entrance doors.
Because of the early deadline
for this bulletin,
the February 14, 2016 offering
will be reported
at a later date.

FOOD PANTRY
We want to thank those who faithfully
support our Food Pantry each week
with food donations and monetary gifts.
The Food Pantry doors remain open only thru the
generosity of donations. In these hard economic
times many families in our community are struggling.
Your donations each week make it possible to ease
that struggle a bit.
The number of families we serve each week is around
150. Many of these families include children and the
elderly.
The Food Pantry is always in need of the following
non-perishable food items: canned meat, tuna,
canned vegetables, rice, any type of pasta, pasta
sauce, soup, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, or if your
prefer you can make a monetary gift. You may bring
your donation to Mass each week or bring it directly
to the Parish Office during the week.

WHAT IS THE CHURCH'S OFFICIAL POSITION CONCERNING PENANCE AND ABSTINENCE FROM MEAT
In 1966 Pope Paul VI reorganized the Church's practice of
public penance in his "Apostolic Constitution on Penance" (Poenitemini). The 1983 revision of the Code of
Canon Law incorporated the changes made by Pope Paul.
Not long after that, the U.S. bishops applied the canonical
requirements to the practice of public penance in our country.
To sum up those requirements, Catholics between the
ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast on Ash Wednesday
and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14 years old
and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday,
Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent.
Fasting as explained by the U.S. bishops means partaking
of only one full meal. Some food (not equaling another full
meal) is permitted at breakfast and around midday or in
the evening—depending on when a person chooses to eat
the main or full meal.
Abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, milk
products or condiments made of animal fat.
EXEMPTIONS FROM THE LENTEN FAST
Besides those outside the age limits, those of unsound
mind, the sick, the frail, pregnant or nursing women
according to need for meat or nourishment, manual
laborers according to need, guests at a meal who cannot excuse themselves without giving great offense or
causing enmity and other situations of moral or physical impossibility to observe the penitential discipline.

ADULT FAITH MINISTRY Program for Lent
Lenten Nourishment—Wednesdays: Feb. 17 through
Mar. 16, 12:30-12:55pm
Join us for a light lunch and spiritual talk on the patio next
to church. We continue with the theme of mercy during
the Year of Mercy.
The Parables of Mercy—Mondays: Feb. 22 through Mar.
15, 7-8:00pm
“Be merciful as the Father is merciful!” How can we do
that? By spending some time examining the “parables of
mercy” in the Gospels, like the sinful woman, the Good
Samaritan, and the Prodigal Son. We can find ways that
Jesus calls us to share the mercy of God with the people
we encounter in our daily lives. The sessions will include
discussion and prayer time. Sessions held in the conference Room in parking garage.
Scripture Study: The book of Revelation-Tuesdays, Feb.
23 through Mar. 8, 7-8:30pm
Many people enjoyed Fr. Bill Burton’s introduction to sacred scripture last fall. During Lent we will be using Fr.
Bill’s excellent DVD to uncover the complex themes of
the fascinating and often confusing book of the bible, and
discover what it really is calling us to live today in the
21st century. Sessions will include time for questions
and discussion, Sessions held in the Ministry Room.
Please sign up for any of the above programs by calling
561 630-0287 or email [email protected].
ST. MARTIN MISSION
The progress on the rebuilding of St. Martin is coming along
nicely. Please see the photos of the progress on the poster at
the entrance of the church.
However, our commitment to St. Martin continues: we are committed to pay for teachers at the school on an ongoing basis, as
well as general maintenance at the facility.
We ask that you pray about how you may be able to help with
this ongoing endeavor.
In the words of Mother Theresa, “We ourselves feel that what
we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean
would be less because of that missing drop.”

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
