Background:
Formed in 2004, Grip-Tite focuses on innovation and
customer service as they supply global markets with
timesaving tools that have proven to be efficient and
reliable. The challenge for Transparent Container
was to design and manufacturer packaging for
their 7-piece socket set that would: stand perfectly
vertical in a trapped clamshell, include a hang hole
for merchandising flexibility, reduce the typical
amount of plastic used to save on cost, allow quick
and easy assembly, make it stackable and meet a
very tight schedule.
Solution:
To meet all of the requirements and provide
additional benefits, Transparent Container went
with their patent-pending Pillar™ style trapped
clamshell. Unlike traditional 1-dimensional hinge
clamshells, the Pillar utilizes a 3-dimensional hinge
for a completely vertical presentation. The hinge also
allows the foot to fold down directly underneath the
product without any additional panels, material or
labor. Cost savings therefore, come in a number of
areas. With the Pillar design, overall CNC and setup
time is reduced by 50% and tooling development
is reduced by 10%. The Pillar also uses 15% less
plastic than the equivalent trifold clamshell with an
identical on-shelf footprint.
With a unique vertical stance, structural integrity,
stacking capabilities and plenty of graphic space
for brand identity and product attributes, the Pillar
clamshell proved to be exactly right for Grip-Tite in
both POP and aisle displays.
