Landfill Gas &
Gas to Energy (CDM)
Considering the vast size and dynamic nature of gas generation in a landfill;
controlling the quality and quantity of methane gas is a continual process of
measurement and control. Too much vacuum applied can choke the anaerobic
process by pulling oxygen into the landfill. Too little vacuum may allow methane
to migrate away from the landfill, losing valuable fuel. Balancing the entire well
field by using the LANDTEC System can help optimize gas production for
maximum quality and quantity while maintaining the anaerobic balance.

Environmental Compliance
At many landfills the potential for gas generation is not sufficient to support a Gasto-Energy operation. Nonetheless, because these landfills continue to generate
some level of Methane, the landfill must be monitored to ensure that the gas is
not migrating off site. For closed or other low production sites, the LANDTEC
System has a complete set of tools designed for monitoring the landfill gas. The
dual mode GEM2000 is ideal on sites that utilize both gas migration monitoring
wells and active gas extraction systems.

Monitoring Without Extraction
On landfill sites that only monitor gas migration or use passive
vents, the GA2000 gas analyzer is suited to read gas composition
and measure relative pressure. While unable to read flow from a
wellhead or gas extraction system sample point, the GA2000 can
measure extremely low borehole flow from migration monitoring

Anaerobic Digester Gas (ADG)
Methane gas recovery from digesters from concentrated animal feeding
operations such as dairy and swine farms, waste water treatment facilities and
food processing is a viable alternative fuel source. The anaerobic digester is
more compact an operation than a landfill but requires just as much attention
to accuracy and process. The LANDTEC System offers appropriate technology
in the form of portable analyzers, stationary continuous monitors and web
driven reporting tools for the ADG process. These tools provide accurate and
repeatable results that are accessible to project stake holders around the globe.

Clean Development Mechanism projects require continuous monitoring with verifiable
records that demonstrate methane destruction. The LANDTEC System analyzes
the gas quality being generated by the digester using the BioGas9CDM gas analyzer.
Where needed, the Universal DAQ monitor can collect data from an enclosed flare and
other electronic equipment. All data from the site is then uploaded to the LANDTEC
System software, BioPro via an internet connection. There the incoming data is
validated for accuracy and archived. Project stakeholders can access BioPro to review
historical data, run gas production reports and see the most recent CER information.

Designed specifically for landfill gas extraction, the easyto-use GEM2000 is a Dual Mode instrument with the
capabilities of the GA2000 plus the added capability to

Specifically designed as an accessory for the GEM
instruments, the patented Accu-Flo wellhead is
manufactured to ISO standards offering reliable and
repeatable readings when used with the GEM2000 to
measure and control landfill gas. These easily installed
wellheads incorporate a fixed position impact tube for
flow measurement, a temperature port, a quick-connect
gas sample/static pressure port, a flow control valve and

Temperature Probe
This accessory is convenient, time-saving and accurate.
The Temperature Probe plugs into the GEM, GA
or BioGas9 instrument and is then inserted into
the Temperature Port of the Accu-Flo wellhead or
other open sample port. The instrument records
the Temperature automatically when the gas sample
reading is stored. Reading temperature directly in
the gas stream assures accuracy and with no need to
enter gas temperature manually.

Continuous Fixed Position Gas Monitoring
To maintain accuracy and repeatability of the AEMS,
the LANDTEC AutoCal delivers calibration gas to the
stationary analyzer periodically. The AEMS reads the
certified gas mixture, typically every hour, to verify that
the analyzer is performing within specifications. If not,
the analyzer is recalibrated by the AutoCal and checked
for accuracy again. Calibration records are kept with
historical record and used to validate the accuracy of

Factory Service of LANDTEC/Geotech instruments is only available through our
Authorized and ATEX/UL certified facilities, currently located in California, the UK and
Brazil. Each instrument is individually calibrated against a number of gases over a range
of temperatures. That calibration is then programmed into that unit’s firmware. We
recommend that portable analyzers be Factory Calibrated at six month intervals.
Instrument service agreements are available, contact our closest office for more
information. In addition to the above, we are always looking for ways to improve our
service. Please feel free to provide feedback on any service by contacting us.

Training*
Our training covers aspects of landfill gas systems from design to operations including
proper implementation and use of our instruments and products. Schedules and
locations vary. Current training programs offered:
LANDTEC Gas System Engineering Design Seminar
"Thousands trained in more than 30 seminars since 1989"
This multi-day event combines a classroom lecture with a practical workshop. Over the
course of this seminar, participants actively engage in learning the theory and practice of
designing a landfill gas extraction system. Morning sessions are focused on gas system
theory and common practice. In the afternoon workshop the group breaks up into
design teams to apply what was presented in the morning lecture. At the end of the
Seminar, each team presents their completed gas system design for peer review.
Gas System Training & Optimization
For Gas-to-Energy and CDM projects, our training is offered with most LANDTEC
System installations and can help landfill operators overcome the challenges of tuning
and balancing the wellfield for optimum gas production.

Designed to familiarize users with the functionality and proper use of our portable gas
analyzers and communication software
