Wednesday’s matinee and evening performances were a huge success and sell outs. We wish the cast and crew good luck for the finale. COLD AND FLU SEASON There is a lot of sickness around at present. Please keep your children at home if they are unwell. Germs spread rapidly in a school and we have had many sick students and teachers. It is better to spend a few days at home rather than spread the germs to others. FLASHING LIGHTS The new 40km School Zone signs with flashing lights are now working on Cullen Street. It is an important reminder to motorists to adhere to the slower travel speed and that many children are crossing in the area. BIGGEST MORNING TEA What a great effort! Thanks so much to the Biggest Morning Tea organising committee Lyn Wynne, Susan Watt and Judy Cowell assisted by school parents, Deb Hill and Mandy Brown. Congratulations, also, to Mr Rastall who organised our SRC team and contributed to such a wonderful event. We have raised over $4000 for Cancer Research. Congratulations everyone! Kindy students with Adam Kwasnik Thank You – Voices for Reconciliation We received a thank you from Kate Armstrong of Lane Cove Council for our school’s performance in this year’s Children’s Voices for Reconciliation event held last week. Once again, thank you to Susan Watt and also to our wonderful primary proms choir for not only performing so brilliantly, but for representing the school so well. The choir has been invited to sing in the event next year, it being the 20th anniversary of this important event. SCHOOL PHOTOS The whole school photo, staff, all classes, individual and sibling photos will all be taken next Monday 15th June. Please wear full winter school uniform, with shiny black shoes. The following Monday 22nd June the photographers will be here again to take Year 6 committee photos, Prefects, School Captains, Production Chorus, Arts Alive Choir, Opera House Choir, Library Monitors and the SRC. Please dress appropriately and wear your badge of office. MARINERS VISIT The Central Coast Mariners new Primary Schools development program, known as “Mariners Active”, visited our school today. Some of our K-2 students were fortunate enough to meet and play with Mariners player Adam Kwasnik who is running this active program. Thanks to Kirsty Baker for organising this visit. REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY Ben W from 4L came 4th, Tom N from 4D came 5th and Will G from 6C came 4th. These boys will now go on to represent Northern Sydney and our school in the State Carnival. At the time of publishing we do not know all of the results. Watch this space! Parents and ex-students are most welcome to attend this assembly. We will be presenting Mrs Neal with a special gift from the students and parents and also from the P&C. Please send your donation to the school office. We hope to see you there. DANCE FESTIVAL GLEN ST THEATRE On Wednesday 17th June our dance group will be rehearsing and then performing at the Glen St Theatre at Belrose at 5pm. They will also perform on Friday 19th June at 7pm and again on Friday 26th June at 11:30am. Thanks must go to Lindsay Lamb and Kate Limbrick for all their hard work training the dance group. Mrs Neal and I are looking forward to enjoying the Friday evening performance. Judy Doherty FAREWELL ASSEMBLY FOR MRS NEAL At 2pm next Tuesday 16th June, we will be holding a special assembly to say “Thank You and Farewell” to Mrs Bronwyn Neal, our much loved Deputy Principal, who retires at the end of this term. SCHOOL NEWS ASSEMBLY TIMETABLE 3-6 Assembly: Monday, 15 June – NO CLASS ASSEMBLY – MICROBAT ASSEMBLY K-2 Assembly: Tuesday, 16 June – NO CLASS ASSEMBLY – MRS NEAL’s FAREWELL ASSEMBLY (2pm) SRC NEWS – Biggest Morning Tea The rain didn’t dampen Lane Cove West’s Biggest Morning Tea on Wednesday. Over 100 members of our community gathered in 3M and 4D and enjoyed an outstanding spread of gourmet foods provided by Lane Cove West’s staff, parents, our SRC members, One Seed Patisseries and Sweet Temptation Patisserie. The ladies at Thermomix were also on hand with fresh lemonade, hot chocolate and fudge. There were lucky door prizes and a short speech by Matthew and Jasmine from the SRC. Our Year 6 SRC members drew out the guessing competition results. The day continued with children participating in their own events and taking home a morning tea inspired artwork. The day raised an outstanding total of $4650. This is a phenomenal achievement for one school. Thank you to everyone who contributed and went above and beyond in the success of the day. Thank you also to the Biggest Morning Committee: Lyn Wynne, Susan Watt and Judy Cowell assisted by school parents, Deb Hill and Mandy Brown. Jared Rastall SRC Co-ordinator GARDENING / ENVIRONMENT NEWS We are thrilled with the news that our school has been successful in an application for a Sustainability Grant from Lane Cove Council. The funds will be used to purchase 2 CLO'ey electrically operated composters to be installed in the staff kitchen and the canteen. submitted. The major benefit of CLO'ey composters is their ability to turn food into waste within 24 hours and the ability to process most food waste including cooked and raw meats. With the CLO'ey composters we hope to further reduce our impact on the environment. Approximately 60% of landfill in Australia is made up of food waste. With the addition of the CLO'ey composters we hope to reduce our impact on the environment even further. Thank you to Belinda Butcher, Ben and Emily’s mum who arranged for the application to be Park safely and legally, and then walk to school to drop off and pick up your child. Remember, it’s good to chat to other parents but children quickly become bored so hold on to little hands to keep them safe. Wet days mean more traffic and less visibility. Extra care and patience is needed. Use your lights so your vehicle can be seen, bring an umbrella and be prepared to walk a bit further than usual to collect your child. It is better to catch a cold than to collect a car! The SRC would like to thank its Sponsors for the Biggest Morning Tea Grasslands Butcher & Deli (Formerly Agora) BUILDING HEALTHY HABITS THE PARENTS JURY The Parents Jury is a web-based network of parents who are trying to improve the food and physical activity environments for children in Australia.
