Showtime 2013 With some small signs of an upturn in the economy, now’s the time to hang a sign on the door saying ‘gone to find some great new products!’ As a new year dawns, and a new round of trade shows get ready to open their doors, it’s definitely time to invest a couple of days in meeting new exhibitors and seeing existing suppliers, while keeping an eye open for the bright young talent that abounds in every sector. While a trip to an overseas exhibition provides a chance to witness at first hand the product trends available in other quarters of the globe, many of the major UK trade shows, such as Spring Fair International, Top Drawer, Home, Pulse, Home & Gift, the London Stationery Show and Brand Licensing Europe, are now focusing on more international exhibitors, providing a cornucopia of product ideas to inspire. Look out for more gift companies than ever at Exclusively Housewares this year, and make a point of visiting dedicated greeting card show PG Live, now in its fifth year, which will be upping the ante yet again in 2013. Plus, for gift retailers branching out into toys, Toy Fair is not only celebrating its Diamond 60th anniversary in January but significantly expanding, while for those looking for Christmas 2013 and other seasonal giftware, Harrogate Christmas & Gift is the place to be. To find out more, turn the pages of Showtime to see who’s who and who’s doing what, with global industry show listings on pages 24-31. The most successful retailers across the board will be walking the aisles. Exposé Travel/ dovetail foks Visiting or exhibiting at a trade show - whether in the UK or internationally - can be a costly business, with hotels and travel expenses often a stumbling block. But costs can be realistic. Experts in business trips, Exposé Travel and dovetail foks, the official UK travel partners for a host of leading home and gift shows around the world, offer extremely competitive rates for both air fares and hotels, with savings of up to 60% off standard fares. From Chicago’s International Home & Housewares Show to Birmingham’s Spring and Autumn Fairs, Hong Kong’s Gift & Premium Fair, China’s Canton Fair and The Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, Exposé Travel offers specially negotiated rates for both flights and accommodation. “Of course, it depends on when people are travelling, but the company’s expertise is in providing very competitive air fares for both exhibitors and visitors,” explains Paul Vasdev, “using reputable airlines that fly from all UK major airports.” Above and above right: Exposé Travel can arrange competitive travel and accommodation at shows around the world to include Chicago’s International Home & Housewares Show and the Licensing International Expo, Las Vegas (right). “We also have direct access to a wide variety of hotels in the USA, thereby making attending Las Vegas’ Licensing Show or Chicago’s International Home & Housewares Show realistic possibilities. But it’s not just America. We can make suggestions as to where people might stay when they’re at a trade fair virtually anywhere in the world, and at the best possible prices, as we deal with over 70,000 hotels and 7,500 destinations worldwide. As a result, we are the first choice for many individuals and companies in the gift and home arena who travel regularly to fairs on business.” For suppliers and retailers who are members of The Giftware Association or BHETA, costs come down even further. Exposé Travel also works closely with the US Commercial Department of the US Embassy and together are able to offer free registration to many exhibitions in the USA as well as other benefits. “Exposé Travel offers specially negotiated prices for members of trade associations such as these, as well as special delegation leader rates too,” confirms Paul. But it’s not just companies attending show internationally who benefit. Continues Paul: “We are very experienced in dealing with hotels throughout the UK and abroad, and can provide exhibitors and buyers with special rates for hotels as close to the individual venues as possible.” Contact us on 0207 025 1515 or email [email protected] SHOW ESSENTIALS CONTACT: TEL: FAX: E-MAIL: WEB: Exposé Travel/dovetail foks 0207 025 1515 0207 681 2682 [email protected] www.exposetravel.com Showtime Worldwide 2013 9 AB RORETS INDUSTRIER ACID APOLLO HOUSEWARES BLACK & BLUM ADDIS HOUSEWARES ARTHUR PRICE BOBBLE BODUM ASCASO BRABANTIA DAVID MASON DESIGN DE’LONGHI EKS INTERNATIONAL ELIA INTERNATIONAL FAIRFAX COFFEE UK FISKARS GREEN PIONEER I GRUNWERG HORWOOD HOMEWARES JURA PRODUCTS LE CHATEAU TEXTILES METALTEX LE CREUSET OCTOPUS PUBLISHING PORTMEIRION GROUP READY STEADY COOK SABICHI HOMEWARES HAHN COOKWARE IMPERIAL INTERNATIONAL LSA INTERNATIONAL MORPHY RICHARDS RIEDEL / SPIEGELAU SALTER ETHOS HALF MOON BAY HAUS GIMI JOSEPH JOSEPH KUHN RIKON NEAT IDEAS PENDEFORD HOUSEWARES GRAEF HOME ACCESSORIES LA CAFETIERE MASON CASH & KILNER NAVIGATE CURVER EDDINGTONS EUROPASONIC GILBERTS JERAY SALES KITCHEN CRAFT MASTRAD NORDIC WARE PHA KITCHESSENTIALS RAYWARE, RAVENHEAD AND PRICE & KENSINGTON ROBERT WELCH DESIGNS SAMUEL GROVES BHL GROUP CITY LOOK IMPORTS GERS EQUIPEMENT MAKE INTERNATIONAL PYREX ANNIVERSARY HOUSE DNC THE DRH COLLECTION JEAN DUBOST KENWOOD N J PRODUCTS PALADONE PRODUCTS PREMIER HOUSEWARES AMEFA CHARLES BENTLEY & SON EPICUREAN EUROPE GEORGE WILKINSON JVL HOMEWARE SOLUTIONS MEYER GROUP AGA CANDLELIGHT DKB HOUSEHOLD ELITE GIFT BOXES GEH GUZZINI HOSTESS JUST MUGS BURTON MCCALL DENBY BRANDS FORMA HOUSE AEROLATTE BAMIX OF SWITZERLAND SCOTT BROTHERS ROSTI HOUSEWARES SIMPLEHUMAN SISTEMA H & L RUSSEL SWAN PRODUCTS T & G WOODWARE TAYLORS EYE WITNESS TEFAL TERRAILLON THE COOKWARE COMPANY TONTARELLI TRADESTOCK TRADITIONAL WINE RACK COMPANY VACU VIN VALERIE GRAHAM WHITBREAD WILKINSON TYPHOON, DEMA & ARTHUR WOOD VILLEROY & BOCH WHITFORD WMF WWRD VITAMIX ULSTER WEAVERS WESCO INTERNATIONAL ZODIAC STAINLESS PRODUCTS ULTIMATE PRODUCTS WESTERN HOUSE ZWILLING J A HENCKELS design, colour and function for the home To secure your invitation to the UK’s premier housewares event please visit our website at www.exclusivelyhousewares.co.uk or call 0121 237 1130 10_SHOWTIME 2013.indd 1 11/12/2012 11:17 11_RH Page 14/12/2012 15:50 Page 11 FCUS ON... Exclusively Housewares Once again, solid industry support for annual UK trade show Exclusively Housewares left organiser Brooke House Exhibitions able to declare ‘Sold Out!’ in just four months. Enjoyed by both buyers and exhibitors for its unique format and relaxed, professional atmosphere, the 2013 show will open with an impressive exhibitor list containing the housewares industry’s leading brands and suppliers, and some great new names for the UK market. “Our exhibitors bring flair, originality and a clear understanding of what the great British public want in their kitchens and dining rooms to the show,” commented show director, Simon Boyd. “They are trend setters in terms of colours and style, and the show is a great place to see what is, and what will be, happening in the heart of the home in the coming months.” As the housewares industry has developed, so the show’s line-up of exhibitors and visitors changes to reflect current trends and opportunities. Now in its twelfth year, Exclusively Housewares has incorporated storage, tableware and small domestic appliances into its offer over the years and updated its list of invited buyers to match. “Our close relationship with the housewares members of the British Home Enhancement Trade Association (BHETA) is vital to the show,” says Simon Boyd. “They help to keep us up to date with how, where, and by whom, their products are being sold, which in turn helps us to understand the sort of product mix the show needs to stay relevant to the market. “For example, the number of housewares products that are also regarded as practical, good-looking gifts is on the increase, so we’ll be inviting key top-end gift retailers who are already, or might wish to, increase their business and profit by including housewares in their product mix, to the show.” In addition, Exclusively Housewares continues to attract a small but significant European audience. Originally conceived of as a ‘UK market’ show, Brooke House has carefully added key European retailers to its visitor wish list over the past four years. “2013 will be no exception. We have already identified influential European, Chinese and Russian buyers to invite to the show. The positive response the show has enjoyed to date is a real testament to the interest our exhibitors generate overseas,” commented Simon. So, for two days in June 2013, the Business Design Centre in Islington, London, will open its doors to show off the very best brands and suppliers in the housewares industry. It is an ideal opportunity for buyers to catch up with their suppliers and plan ahead for Christmas 2013 and on into Spring 2014. “With our exhibitor line-up already in place for next June, we can confidently predict another great year for the show make sure the show dates are in your housewares diary now!” said Simon. Harrogate Christmas & Gift Now is the time to start planning ahead for the 2013 season and Harrogate Christmas & Gift, which takes place from 13th to 16th January 2013 at the Harrogate International Centre, is, for most buyers in gift related industries, the first port of call for the year. Left: Through the Christmas window. Below: Festive entrance aisle. The show is one of the fastest growing in its sector catering not only for Christmas - with probably the greatest selection of trees, lights and festive decorations in the entire UK - but also novelties and gifts for every occasion, from Halloween and Mother’s Day right through to furniture, ornaments, flowers and giftware for the home and garden. In fact, Harrogate Christmas & Gift has seen a steady increase in all gift and homeware ranges attracting discerning buyers from large department stores, novelty and souvenir shops and traditional gift stores, as well as numerous DIY stores, garden centres, museums, country estates, castles and farm shops. Amongst the baubles, tinsel and Christmas trees you will find an array of fabulous products to fill your shelves the whole year round, from silk flowers, pictures and chinaware to garden furniture, barbecues and outdoor ornaments. In fact, whatever your retail focus, you can guarantee to find a whole host of exciting new lines to ensure your customers keep on flooding through your doors. Once again, Premier Decorations will be filling the entire Hall H with its extensive range of products which incorporate everything for Christmas and Halloween home and gift items, plus garden products such as chimineas, barbeques and patio furniture. Winter Flora has moved to a new location at the show this year and its fabulous range of dried flowers and naturally inspired decorations promise to make a focal point in the Queens Suite. Likewise, Festive Productions has increased its product portfolio to include nearly every conceivable Christmas decoration category, from ornate glass and shatterproof baubles to tinsel garlands and artificial Christmas trees. Buyers will be spoilt for choice when visiting the company’s stands located in both Halls M and C. Of course, whilst Harrogate Christmas & Gift gives buyers the chance to see the latest launches from their favourite suppliers, the show has lots of new exhibitors this year including Lesser & Pavey and The Satchville Gift Company, with an interesting catalogue of products including baskets and storage containers, textile and hanging decorations, plus a range of pots and planters. The Solar Company is also making its debut with a fabulous range of solar lights for all year round, including Christmas. These lights are designed for use in the UK and even work in winter, solving lighting problems, particularly where no source of electricity is available. Harrogate is a great trade show location, offering lots of quality, affordable hotels and some fabulous restaurants. The town is easily accessible with a straight drive up the M1, or via direct train lines from London’s Kings Cross. British Airways have also re-introduced its one hour flight from Heathrow to Leeds Bradford airport (just a stone’s throw away from Harrogate) for around £110 return. PG Live 2013 And now we are five! Progressive Greetings Live, the international greeting card show and the only show dedicated to greeting cards, reaches its first milestone as it prepares for its 2013 show at the Business Design Centre in the heart of London. The show will run two weeks earlier in 2013, on Tuesday May 14 and Wednesday May 15 to ensure it does not clash with half term holidays. A Fresh New Look For 2013 To mark its fifth year, the show has introduced a new show logo and fresh, vibrant colour scheme. The organising team is hard at work bringing together the established world of greeting cards, and seeking out new publishing companies, all of which are keen to make the most of the show. Springboard – A Fanfare To New And Emerging Publishers Springboard@PG Live has proven to be a real draw for card buyers - stuffed full of fantastic new, and often ‘first time at a trade show’ publishers, this is the place to find and talk to the fresh greetings talent! The Specialist Artists’ Quarter Introduced for the first time last year, the Artists’ Quarter gives artists and designers space to present their diverse portfolios for the delectation of publishers and licensors alike! DIAL – Designs, Imagery & Art Licensing - Back In Force Also introduced in 2012, this area shines a spotlight on the thousands of original designs, illustrations and creative properties available throughout the show, many of which are available to buy or licence. This year, the team aims to extend the reach of DIAL to recognise the increasing importance of licensing to greeting publishers. But, as ever, the focus of PG Live will always be on making it fabulously easy for retailers, distributors and licensors to meet and do business. Visitors will be able to enjoy FREE refreshments throughout the show, FREE use of the show’s Henry Cole Club Buyers Lounge, a great FREE lunch, a FREE show goody bag and an invitation to come along to a fantastic industry post-show FREE drinks party on Tuesday 14 May. “Our aim is to put on an event that truly represents the market and provides buyers with an opportunity to access publishers across the board, from the established to the brand new,” says Warren Lomax, joint show director. “We are slowly extending the boundaries of the show to recognise what the greeting industry encompasses, which is not just the sale of cards, but also the sale and licensing of the designs and images from those cards.” Want To Know More? Take a look at our show website, www.progressivegreetingslive.com which includes our list of 2013 exhibitors and information on how to get to the show. Register Now!
