To achieve its goals efficiently, ICEX operates abroad through the network of Spanish Embassy Offices
for Economic and Commercial Affairs and in Spain through Regional and Territorial Trade Offices.
FIAB (Spanish Federation of Food & Beverage Industries) is an umbrella organization of most food &
beverage associations and manufacturing companies in Spain. Its basic function consists of informing its
members about events and developments which are relevant to the sector. As a result, FIAB represents
the interests of its members in discussions with administrative and decision-making bodies on national,
European and international level. Accordingly, its activities are focused on the following areas: economy,
fiscal policy, research & development, labour affairs, food legislation, promotion of foreign trade, training,
environment and communication.
In particular, the promotion of foreign trade is achieved through supporting Spanish companies and their
products in events like trade fairs, show rooms, business meetings, etc. in order to build up and enhance
the Spanish image abroad.
The high quality and unique taste of Spanish products have fostered its exports to more than 80 countries,
leading in 2006, to an export value of ¤ 22 billion and maintaining its positive trade balance worldwide.
The General Department for the Agrifood and Food Industry, under the jurisdiction of the Ministry for
Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has the following responsibilities:

• To establish, within the framework of the general economic planning , the guidelines for regulation
and development of the agricultural and food industries.
• To determine basic national standards, developing and coordinating activities related to food industries
and markets, and to food policy.
• To cooperate with the Autonomous Communities (Regions) in carrying out the already mentioned
duties within their remit.
• To develop, in partnership with the General Secretariat for Agriculture, the proposals which establish
the Spanish position within the European Union.
The European Commission is facilitating the development of European Technology
Platforms (ETPs) to promote innovation in Europe. ETPs will bring together stakeholders
in key economic sectors so as to:
• Develop a long term vision of the sector,
• Create a strategy for delivery, and
• Establish a management structure to ensure maximum impact.
The challenging opportunities for improving welfare and well-being in Europe through
research and innovation in the European agro-food industry, together with the size,
nature and regional importance of this industry sector, justify the inclusion of a food
ETP amongst the some 25 existing ETPs at various stages of development. For details

The ETP Food for Life Vision for 2020 and beyond was launched in Brussels on 5
July 2005. The next stage, currently underway, is the development of a Strategic
Research Agenda [SRA] affording a dynamic strategy for achieving this vision and
meeting the innovation challenge, and a detailed Implementation Plan that describes
the research, training, education and dissemination requirements needed to fulfil
the vision and strategy.
The immediate focus is on defining the requirements and priorities for the European
Commission’s Framework Programme 7 ,but in the longer term this focus will be
broadened to include nationally-funded initiatives.

Agraz was founded in 1970, located in Villafranco del Guadiana in las Vegas
Bajas on the Guadiana River, in Badajoz, Community of Extremadura the
main production area of tomato for industry in Spain.
Agraz can process 3800 tns of fresh tomato per day.
The main products of Agraz are Tomato powder, Tomato paste, Tomato
crystals, High Lycopene Tomato and Pimento paste.

Agraz supervises and controls from the tomato culture to the finish product.
To better guarantee the supply in the US market, Agraz decided to build a
second center of production, Agusa, in California (USA) main production
area of the world.
In May 2002 Agusa started production and is actually at 100% capacity. Agusa
is focused to the US and Asian market.
