Food
One of the things we enjoy most about our location is our ability to be able to offer you
seasonal food from local orchards and paddocks. This allows us to be flexible with the fresh
foods that we offer our guests but it does mean that you need to read our sample group
visit menu with an eye to style and season rather than specific dishes. With two chefs and a
home economist on staff (plus our Indian cooks who show their style in our regular curry
banquets) we are dedicated to providing you with fresh, healthy and interesting food and
can cater to any dietary need with minimum notification. It is important to note that
Feathertop Chalet maintains a nut free kitchen.
We feed our groups well, with breakfast (continental or American style), morning tea, lunch,
afternoon tea, dinner and supper. We also suggest that fresh fruit from the local orchards is
a tasty way to build up energy levels at any time of day.
Standard meal prices for groups and guests are detailed on pages 8 through 9 of this
document.
Perhaps you feel like eating in the shade of our beautiful trees or at the top of Mount
Feathertop? With notice we are happy to put together BBQ and picnic packs or you can take
your lunch away bagged up for an easy ride or walk.
A sample menu showing a range of freshly prepared choices for lunch and dinner is available
on our website.

Feathertop Chalet Activity Description (Educational Groups)
East Ovens Class 1 rapids
Take a trip along the gentle rapids of the East Ovens River on a maneuverable inner tube. Starting at Feathertop Chalet and
finishing at the fish trap before the walking bridge in Harrietville, this activity can be done over and over. Each lap takes
approximately 1/2 an hour.
Mountain and river trail ride
Be guided along rides from the valley floor to the foothills of the Mountain Range with crossings of the West Ovens River.
Total ride time is around 1 hour. Not for the faint at heart.
Mountain skies
A facilitated night sky experience with members of the Bright Amateur Astronomy Club. Depending on the time of year we
could be seeing nebula, planetary events, comets or other celestial activity. This option assumes clear skies, Feathertop Chalet
provides a fire for non-participants to sit around between viewings.
Abseiling
Conducted by an external agent, abseiling presents a fantastic challenge for individuals of all ages
Trout fishing and aquaculture
Take a trip to the Mountain Fresh Trout farm for a behind the scenes tour of the hatchery sheds and an inside look at
aquaculture. Grab a rod and catch yourself a trout to be bagged and labelled for your meal or to take home at the end of your
stay.
Dreamtime
The aboriginal peoples of the Upper Ovens, Buffalo and Buckland Rivers were members of the Ya-itma-thang tribal group.
Wally Cooper, an elder of the Bangalang nation and spokesperson for the Didaroa Nation of the Ya-itma-thang introduces
visitors to the land and stories of the head waters of the Ovens River system. Wally also enjoys sitting by the fire and talking to
larger groups about the history and stories of his people in this area.
Bush cooking
Depending on the season we might cook up some Bogong moth but the standard fare is traditional damper. The kids work in
teams to prepare and cook their slab of damper over the fire.
Welcome to Country
Wally Cooper, an elder of the Bangalang Nation and spokesperson for the Didaroa Nation of the Ya-itma-thang welcomes
visitors to the land of the Didaroa people.
Archery

accordance with range safety principles by experienced archers.
Initiatives
Leadership and team activities including photo trails, enquiry based activities, physical challenges and environmental
engagement short activities.

Soccer
The world game! Big players in a small pond.
Futsal
Faster, more goals, no turf stains. The world game for short attention spans and delayed gratification issues.
Water Polo
An excellent activity with simple rules. Fast and cool.
Indoor Hockey
Like Futsal with sticks. Not for the faint hearted.

Feathertop Chalet Activity Description (Continued)
Chinese settlement archaeology and Landcare
The early 1800's saw Chinese settlements on the outskirts of gold mining villages. Working with the Harrietville Historic
Society and Heritage Victoria Feathertop are able to offer an opportunity to work and learn on an archaeological site as we
unearth and clear growth from the 1800’s Chinese settlement complete with water management systems, fireplaces, house
sites and terraced gardens.
Gold panning
Harrietville sits in a meander valley of the upper Ovens River, the fast moving waters cutting through Ordovician siltstone and
quartz reefs left alluvial gold spread across the valley floor. Pan with our experts and try your luck.
Raft building
Build a working raft out of pipes and connectors. This is a great activity for groups who are confident in the water and capable
swimmers.
Tennis
There is nothing better than emulating local and international stars or even, quite simply, getting a ball over the net. Our two
full size hard surface courts are equipped for night tennis.
Lake Tronoh Reserve Landcare
Lake Tronoh is the remnant reservoir of the Tronoh dredge. The rehabilitation of the lake area is something that the
Harrietville community are passionate about. This activity includes attracting indigenous flora and fauna, rehabilitating the
bush land around the lake and offering school groups the opportunity to learn more about the history, strategy and practice
of land rehabilitation planning.
Search and Rescue
The bush land surrounding Feathertop Chalet provides a wonderful opportunity for groups to learn and practice bush search
and rescue techniques. Supervised by experienced search and rescue personal this is a unique opportunity to understand how
to survive and support each other in a wilderness setting.
Fly Fishing
Southern Fly Fishing Adventures and Feathertop Chalet provide the opportunity for limited numbers of our guests to fly fish in
the upper Ovens River. All gear is included in the activity.
Deer farm tour and feeding
Feathertop Chalet and the Red Stag Deer farm provide our groups with an opportunity to tour a functioning deer farm. The
activity includes feeding and caring for the animals.
Swimming
Our indoor heated swimming pool is available for supervised use for school activities
Mini Golf
Ok ok, we know it’s probably one of the roughest courses in the world – that’s the challenge of this world class put put course.
Deer Stalker
Cameras only hunting!! Set off with a local guide along wildlife trails in search of wild game. This is an exciting opportunity for
limited numbers of guests to experience the thrill of wildlife in their natural habitat. Seasonally available to increase to your
chance of a successful hunt, this activity requires a superior level of fitness, patience and stamina.
Activities can be scheduled by rotation to suit larger groups or allow greater time for selected options. The Feathertop
Chalet activity schedule and pricing guide can be used for your planning
We could go on….Equipped aquatic and dryland environmental study center, Harrietville Gold
Museum, Harrietville Trivia Hunt, guided hikes (night and day), movie nights…………….
Further information on activity length, supervised activity pricing, group numbers and free options is
available in our Activity Guide available from reception or our website.
www.feathertopchalet.com.au
As teachers and leadership facilitators we also design and coordinate a variety of tailored programs
for groups to enhance their visit and participant outcomes. If you don’t see what you want in this
document please enquire with our staff as to your specific group needs and goals.
