Essential Need
For more than 30 years, the Simi Valley Landfill and Recycling Center
(SVLRC) has served the disposal and recycling needs of residents in
Ventura County, south Santa Barbara County and west San Fernando
Valley. Waste Management is proposing the modernization and
expansion project to meet the growing needs of the community.
Ventura County Growth
• Within the last 30 years, Ventura County’s population
has more than doubled
• The SVLRC provides 60% of Ventura County’s daily
refuse disposal needs
• By 2030, Ventura County is projected to produce
6,000 tons of trash daily

The Regional
Waste System
Like most major infrastructure, landfills are regional in nature and
are a part of a larger system that includes a variety of facilities to
help us better manage our trash and recycling.
Ventura County is fortunate to have two landfills (SVLRC and
Toland Road) that help residents manage more than 90% of solid
waste locally. Less than two percent of the waste SVLRC takes in
is from Los Angeles. But, Ventura County is dependent on other
communities to manage:
