Season Game No. 67
Home Game No. 34
ROYALS LOOK TO CLAIM THE ATLANTIC...EVEN IF IT’S NOT WORTH A WHOLE LOT...
Ordinarily in pro hockey when you win a divisional title, you not only have cause to celebrate, you
also get some corresponding benefit in playoff positioning, such as a guarantee of home ice advantage in the first round. But, not this year. In a unique twist this season, qualification for and
seeding within the Eastern Conference playoffs is based solely on a team’s position in the Conference—where a team stands in their respective division has no impact whatsoever. Nonetheless,
the Royals have a chance tonight to clinch the Atlantic Division title—which would be the fourth
divisional title in team history—if the team wins (or even gains a point) against Orlando. To be
sure, the Royals performed exceptionally well within the Atlantic this year (going 23-6-2-0) but if
the team wants to earn one of the top four spots in the East—and home ice advantage in the first
round—they’re going to have to be good outside the division, too, because the last six games are
all against teams from the South or North. Tonight, we want to thank the Reading Eagle for the
team photo, which we encourage fans to get signed in the post-game autograph session.

@
ELMIRA
(Win, 6-3)
Saturday, March 29, 2014
The Royals finished the season ‘perfect for Elmira’ after winning for the seventh time this year at
First Arena. It didn’t start all that great, as the Jackals struck first; but the Royals answered with five
straight—including what proved to be the fifth game winner of the year for Domenic Manardo in
the second period. The Jackals made a game of it down the stretch; but a short-handed empty
netter by Brandon Blandina iced goaltender Brandon Anderson’s ninth win over the Jackals.
ORLANDO
v
EVANSVILLE
(Win 5-4)
Saturday, March 29, 2014
The Solar Bears came back from a two-goal deficit to complete a two-game sweep of the Icemen,
who led 4-2 after ringing off three goals in the early stages of the second period. But the Solar
Bears answered with 3 of their own, including a third-period tie-breaking GWG from Jacob Cepis.
ROYALS QUICK NOTES






The Royals, who are 12-2-1-0 in the team’s last fifteen games and have played eighteen games
over .500 since January 8 (27-9-1-1), come into tonight’s game riding a season-long nine game
unbeaten streak (8-0-1-0) here on home ice at Santander Arena.
Last Saturday’s win in Elmira marked the sixteenth come-from-behind win of the year for the
Royals. Ten of those sixteen come-backs have come in the team’s last 24 games played.
Ryan Cruthers’ two-goal game in last Friday’s 4-1 win over the Elmira Jackals gives him 70 career
goals as a Royal, which is just one shy of the all-time team record held by Olivier Labelle.
Domenic Monardo is riding a six game point streak (5g-2a). Monardo, who has scored ten goals
in his last fourteen games, leads all rookies in the league with twenty-six goals.
Ethan Cox is riding a five game point streak (1g-5a=6pts). He leads all forwards on the team in
plus-minus, playing to a plus-18 (+18) in 64 games. Defenseman Bryant Molle leads the team in
that category, playing to plus-19 (+19) in 61 games.
Jesse Todd is riding a six game point streak (5g-3a=8pts). Todd, who did not score a goal in his
first 33 games with Reading, has five goals in his last six games.
HEIDELBERG CC SHOT OF GAME
On Tuesday, the Royals signed defenseman
Nick Bruneteau, who just completed his senior
season at the University of Vermont, to an
Amateur Tryout Agreement. Bruneteau, who
hails from Omaha, Nebraska, comes from a
relatively famous hockey family. As a matter of
fact, his Great Uncle, Modere ’Mud’ Bruneteau, a long-time star with the Detroit Red
Wings, is famous for scoring the goal that
ended the longest game in NHL history when
he banged one home 16:30 into the sixth
overtime (176:30 after the opening face-off)
to give the Wings a 1-0 playoff win over the
Montreal Maroons on March 24, 1936. Nick’s
Grand Dad, Eddie Bruneteau, also played for
the Red Wings, and is one of an illustrious
group who had their name on the line-up card
for the first NHL game ever for Gordie Howe.
