H
ello Mustang Friends. The sun is shining and it looks like spring is in the air. The club is
growing with new members joining every month. I'd
like to take this time to welcome all of you and thank you for joining
our club. If you are at one of the many upcoming events and see
someone you do not recognize, take a minute or two and introduce
yourself and make them feel welcome. I also want to let all the members know that it is not a requirement to drive your Mustang during
our cruises, yes we would love having all Mustangs but the people
are more important than our cars.
There are a lot of activities coming up so check the schedule
and come out and join the fun. The club helped Korum Ford with their
Peanut Butter Drive. We collected 233 jars of peanut butter (and $40)
and delivered it to a waiting truck bed after the May general membership meeting. Great job everyone; I am always proud to see just how
generous our members are when it comes to helping others.
I know one of the things I dread when getting my car ready for
show season is water spots. My arms are ready to fall off after towel
drying. Use your leaf blower, it’s much faster and easier. Start at the
top and work your way down and voila! Clean and dry without spots
or the need for physical therapy! I also have a wide assortment of
cleaning accessories in my car care kit. Stuff you wouldn’t think of
using on your car like:
Rivera (360) 459-3993 and Missy Willert
Baby bottle brushes for door jams, hood hinges, and hard to reach
areas
(253) 565-0592
Bamboo skewers for creases and in between spots
MCA Regional Representative—Nancy
000 steel wool for chrome and glass
Car Show Co-Chairpersons—Charlene
Freeman (253) 531-4624
Newsletter Editor—Heidi Geise
Rubber gloves for your hands
Knee pads for comfort
[email protected] or
Paint brushes of all sizes for almost anything
(253) 863-1850
Micro fiber rags and tons of them
Maybe even an apron to wear detailing so you don't accidentally
scratch the finish
Plastic bags for times when trash cans are far away
Trivia
Q-The 2015 Mustang was the 1st
to have independent rear suspension across the board, but not the
1st to have this technology. What
was the first?
Sunscreen so I don’t match the color of my car
Hope to see you at one of the upcoming events this
month!

TOO COOL EVENT
John Clor the “world’s” leading Mustang II enthusiast is organizing the first ever Mustang II national gathering set for August 19-21 at Ford’s own Product Development
Center in Dearborn, Michigan.
What better time to stage the event than in the 40th anniversary year. It will be held in
conjunction with the Mustang Owners Club of South Eastern Michigan’s annual Mustang Memories show as well as on the same weekend as Detroit’s famed Woodward
Dream Cruise. As John says, “It just doesn’t get any better than that”.
One of the highlights will be “Dinner with the II Designers” set for the evening before
Woodward, fans can meet and mingle with some of the car’s original designers after a
special Mustang II presentation. Plus, later get your car judged by actual Mustang II
designers and Ford VIPS.

2016 GT Shadow Black Coupe
Back in the mid 70's I owned a 66 coupe, but
since then it's been mostly trucks.....that is until
Black Friday in 2015. That's when JJ and I de-
cided to gift my
dodge truck to
the nephew and
we bought our
2016 Shadow
Black GT.
Somehow we
found PCMC on the web and we fell into a big
bunch of happy and laughing people who love
to enjoy their Mustangs, having fun and sharing
their joy with the community.

Florida.
Rachel, we will miss seeing you but

Informational Article:
How Do You Start Collecting?
First, remember the story
from last month about Landon Lively? His team was
Team Appex from Seattle
Christian Schools. They
made it to the World Championships in St. Louis. This
was about robotics but it all
started with Mustangs years ago. The team ended
up ranked #4 after qualifications, took home the #1
Rookie Seed Award over 175 teams from around
the world, and received the Rookie All-Star award,
the highest award at Worlds. Great Job Landon and
Team Appex!
Of course this all started the conversation about collecting classic cars as this is where he began his
interest in building and in electronics. What are tips
we can give to those young drivers and those “more
seasoned” who might be interested in getting an
older Mustang and rebuilding it for show or for getting around town.
I spoke with a friend or two that have caught the car
building bug. Here are a few tips.
A friend that has owned, “43 vehicles” (classics and
regular daily drivers) over the years spoke to me
about his experience. His collection currently includes a ‘56 T-Bird, ‘32 5 Window Hot Rod, and a
‘66 Mustang. He started much like Landon. When
he was about 10 years old a neighbor asked him to
help him take the paint off a ‘26 Chevrolet he wanted to restore. And so it began. In high school he
took Auto Shop and was part of a small group
asked to overhaul an engine of a ‘37 Cord. And he
just kept building…..
His words of wisdom were really about the power of
this work, the impact a few adults including teachers
and neighbors had on him. His experience allowed
him to purchase inexpensive cars knowing that he
would be able to work on them, learning and enjoying the experience as he went. His first car was a
1939 Chevrolet that he bought for $50 and then rebuilt an engine for it and raced it. He was 16 at the
time.
Being able to work on these vehicles provides a
sense of accomplishment to the young person and
a bonding experience with an adult mentor and/or
parent. What a valuable project it was for Landon
and our friend and others who have had this opportunity.

Check it out before purchase. I heard one
person at a recent show tell me that they sent a
large sum of money to a seller only to never
hear from them again and never see the car.
This is the worst case scenario. But besides this
awful situation, with photo programs just about
anything can look good in pictures.
As a former educator I have seen and heard of another benefit from this work. Math, science and
reading are subjects where tests have become increasing stressed. What better way to help students
engage in these subjects, as well as history and art,
then by helping them connect to a real world application that they love.

When you do make the purchase, trailer it
home unless it is local. The last thing you
want to happen when you are excitedly bringing
home the prize, is to have it breakdown partway
home.
If you have a young person in your life, how can you
help them make these connections and appreciation for our Mustangs!

Have a mechanic (if you are not one) check it
out. Connect with someone you trust and
have them do a “buyers inspection.” It costs, but
gives you the tools to say yes or no to the purchase or to do some negotiating.

Know your limits and your plans for the vehicle. Recognize what you are willing to pay
and what mechanical / body work you are able
and willing to do. Go into it willing to say no to
the deal if the cost or work doesn’t match your
vision.
See you on the road...don’t forget to wave!

March Events
We get to do a lot of fun things with fellow
Mustang enthusiasts but this year, we got to
help out one of our sponsors again and have
the unique experience of driving a variety of
vehicles, if only for a few blocks.
Korum invited us to help shuffle cars from their
lot to the fairgrounds parking lot for the Wallup
in Puyallup. Several from the club took them
up on the invitation. It is always an adventure
to get handed a set of keys, told to go find the
car, and then drive away. So you get the key,
15 people at the same time hit the key fob to
find their car….This year the key was in the car
and we just picked one and drove off down the
road.
I don’t know about others, but it always takes
me a moment or two to figure out how to start
it (not all have regular keys), then adjust the
seat, and then find DRIVE. (I drove half way to
the lot wondering why the Chevy I was driving
didn’t sound very good before I discovered I
was in a vehicle that had both manual and automatic and yes…...I was in Manual!) I could
only hope the radio station was not on country
(nothing personal but my husband was a rock
’n roll musician). I can’t imagine trying to program the radio for the few blocks we drove.
Winery Cruise
So what if it rains a
little….we live in the
Pacific Northwest
and that is what it
does in the spring!
But rain or shine, 13
Mustangs and a
couple of additional
vehicles, took this beautiful drive through the
back roads from Fredrickson to The Rainier
View Winery and Nursery. We passed lakes
and horse pastures and drove on curvy wooded
roads.
The trip ended with lunch at the winery (where
a few additional members joined us). Then
many went
shopping in
the nursery
and gift
shop. I saw
yard art
leaving and
May 15
suspect a few
bottles of wine left
the premises as
well.
This is a unique winery that creates European style wines
based on recipes the owner
brought back from a German
wine maker after being stationed in Germany while in the military. I heard
some “oohs” and “ahhs” as members tasted the
product.
But we all
drove home
safely.

FNDO
Farrelli’s on Canyon
May 26
Our usual group of 20 or so was down a couple
taking care of Missy who was in an accident between work and home that night. She only suffered minor cuts and bruises she says but the
truck didn’t fair so well. Glad it wasn’t the other
way around.
It was a small but hungry crew that hit Farrelli’s
on Friday night. The food was very good and
the service was outstanding. I think there was
as much talking as there was eating but then
that is typical, isn’t it….
Can’t wait to see you next month at The Hangar
Inn.
CAR SHOW SUGGESTIONS
FOR NOVICES
Besides washing and waxing your car, here are
some other “words of wisdom”.
Pre-register you know you are going…so save
some money and get a goody bag.
Cleaning kit – even on a short drive there will be
dust and road junk to clean off.
Plastic gloves & hand cleaner – no dirty hands
or smell the rest of the day.
Comfy shoes – lots of walking and standing at a
car show.
Umbrella – to protect you from rain or sun.
Hat/Sunglasses – besides the sun, there is a lot
of glare from freshly waxed cars. Don’t forget
suntan lotion!
Clipboard – so much easier to fill out your ballot
than using someone’s back.
Pen – blood is soooo messy.
Fire extinguisher – some cars may be too hot to
handle.
Lunch – unless you like $5.00 hot dogs.
Camera – great way to take photos of ideas for
your car.
Ice chest – something small to hold water and
sodas.
Raffle money – support the host club’s charity
and maybe come home with something special.
Trophy or no trophy - a car show is really all
about the beautiful cars and the people you
meet.
Lastly, a chair – car shows are hard work and
an afternoon nap is important!
Thank you Nancy
for sharing and
Pete for posing.
