Bibi was born and raised in upstate
New York. She has lived in Maryland,
Virginia, Connecticut and finally
settled in Texas almost 20 years ago.
After attending Connecticut Technical
Institute and receiving her degree in
mapping, surveying and drafting, Bibi
was recruited by the Connecticut
Department of Transportation and
quickly promoted to Instrument
Operator. She excelled in a field
dominated by men. After passing a
difficult state exam, she was promoted
again to Party Chief which was a
notable feat as few passed and most
had to retake the test multiple times.
She became the first woman in the
state to work on a surveying crew. “I
loved EVERY minute of it,” she said.
Bibi’s pups are her constant companions.
Shortly after she and her husband moved to Texas, he was diagnosed with cancer and passed
very quickly. Bibi decided to work with a horse trainer in Terrell, training pony horses and
thoroughbreds for the race track. Still school beckoned and she earned her Applied Science
Agriculture degree at North Central Texas College in Gainesville. “I love school and would still
take classes if I could,” she said with a smile. Her passion for agriculture is unchecked; she has
seedlings planted everywhere and loves to work in the dirt whenever she can.
Bibi loves animals! She has rescued over 100 abandoned animals—everything from birds to
cats and dogs. And, she has found them loving homes. She currently has two small dogs,
Kenny and Joey (the boys). When her most beloved companion Chaykota reached the final
stages of cancer, Bibi asked MMOW for help. A special grant from Banfield Charitable Trust
made it possible for MMOW to assist with the cost of in-home euthanasia provided by
Compassionate Care Pet Services. “I was able to spend a few very precious moments with
him before he passed in my arms,” she said. “Thank you.”
Bibi was the first meal recipient in Flower Mound and has been a member of the MMOW
family for four years. She does not drive, so shopping is problematic. After an extended
hospitalization, she is especially grateful for the blessings of home and appreciates MMOW’s
support which enables her to live independently. She is a joy to all of the volunteers who
meet her and she wants to say, “God bless you and thank you for not only delivering
wonderful meals but helping me with errands, transportation and the boys. I cannot express
the love in my heart for each and every one of you.”

The Conservatory Celebrates MMOW’s 35th Anniversary
April 1st marked Metroport Meals On Wheels’ 35th anniversary! To help MMOW celebrate
this very special date, The Conservatory in Keller Town Square hosted a Black-Tie Affair on
April 16th with all proceeds benefitting Metroport Meals On Wheels.
The glamorous event was held at The Conservatory in Keller at Town Center with signature
martinis and a sumptuous array of food tastings provided by The Conservatory, The Classic
at Roanoke, Truluck’s, Golden Thai, Chick-fil-A, Keller Beverage Company and The
Conservatory’s Manny Herrera. Award winning concert pianist Vanddi LaBecki provided the
evening’s entertainment.
MMOW Founder Kelly Bradley joins MMOW staff and
volunteers for a moment of celebration!
Virginia Muzyka, Event Chair stated: “The outreach of Metroport Meals On Wheels has been
successful because the community recognizes the importance of taking care of our own.
We are honored and thrilled that The Conservatory chose MMOW as the beneficiary of their
Black Tie Affair.” MMOW extends special thanks to the Conservatory’s Director, Lisa Skopal
and her terrific team: Manny Herrera, Celia Fancher, Alica Smith, David Zant, Faith Paramore,
Jennifer Markum, Amy Dudney, Kasi Thompson, Karon Goad, and Kayla Young.
Frank Finn, MMOW
President Robert Finn,
and Monica Finn
enjoyed Kelly Bradley’s
recollections of
MMOW’s early years.
The Conservatory’s dining room “rocks” when Keler ISD
students provide their trademark service with a smile!
Diners enjoyed a wonderful array of food and great
conversation throughout the evening.
~From the desk of the Executive Director ~
Wow! Thirty-five years. Three and a half decades. It sounds like a lot of time, but in so many ways, it feels like only yesterday. MMOW,
April 1, 1980—then. MMOW, today—now. Yes, we are bigger. We have grown from delivering meals in one community to an
outreach that stretches across parts of three counties. We have provided over 1.2 million meals for thousands of seniors. But, at the
core we are still very much the same. As Kelly Bradley, Vertalee Coleman, Emily Ragsdale, Sue Hoke, and Shaun Wicker cooked
MMOW’s first meal, it was personal—for them and for the five seniors who received a meal that first day.
Then, Roanoke was a small town where everyone knew everyone. Those first meals were prepared by volunteers for their neighbors.
Now, although our towns are larger and more suburban, neighborliness remains at the heart of all we do. Thanks to the support and
involvement of so many, we have grown from delivering 200 meals in the first year to 88,904 meals in 2015. And, all of those meals
were accompanied by a smile, a hug, a kind word, or an offer of assistance. Very, very personal.
Over the years, MMOW has found additional ways to be a good neighbor to our seniors. Senior center luncheons create special events
and celebrations for active seniors every week. MMOW’s Stocking Tree, Pet Patrol, Staples for Seniors and nutritional supplement
programs gives our neighbors the opportunity to create lots of special memories for our home-delivery participants.
Through the years and the growth, MMOW has continued to provide its services in a very personal way. Ask the volunteers, and you’ll
quickly hear that they think they receive more from volunteering than they could ever give. Ask the seniors, and they will say no one
could ever make as huge a difference in their lives as their volunteers.
For today’s volunteers, it is still personal. For MMOW’s staff, it is also personal. Each participant is an individual with individual needs.
Because it is personal for all of us, we recognize and respect individuality. While we can’t always meet every need, we surely try. In the
process, we share smiles, hugs, love, enduring friendships, and more often than not, creative and personal solutions to challenges.

Fore! June Is Tee Time at MMOW
The rains ended and 411 golfers teed off for MMOW’s
24th Annual Golf Classic as scheduled on June 8, 2015.
The Golf Classic is MMOW’s largest fundraising
event with proceeds from the tournament funding
home-delivered meals and senior center programs.
This year’s tournament was presented by Allen Samuels
at Alliance and Allen Samuels on North Loop 820. The tournament, held at Trophy
Club Country Club’s Hogan and Whitworth courses, hosted both morning and
afternoon shotgun starts. The MMOW’s Golf Classic offered something for everyone.
“For golfers, we continued to add something new with challenging contests, great
food and auctions - while offering a day on the course for a worthy cause,” said
Tournament Chair Robert Finn. Participants enjoyed contests for Hole-in-One,
Chipping, Longest Drive, and more. All MMOW golfers received “Tourney
Bucks” to make their personal choices in the Callaway mobile pro shop.
Robert Finn, Russell Carter, Tim Bock, and Tyler Rainear set the pace
for a great day of golf.
Favorite restaurants delighted golfers with delicious food from breakfast
through dinner at the 19th Hole Food Festival. Once the afternoon golf
round ended, the After Party & Auction began. David Moore Productions
entertained with a wide range of music for the evening festivities. An
amazing selection of live and silent auction items was open for bidding
all day – including travel, exclusive dining packages, sports tickets, golf
outings, restaurant dining, and many others. The Golf Classic shared
MMOW’s mission and generated funding that makes a dynamic difference
to our seniors and our community.

The Classic at Roanoke Wines and Dines
for MMOW
A stunning winter evening was the perfect backdrop as The Classic at Roanoke hosted its 21st
Annual Benefit Wine Dinner for MMOW. Over 75 friends of Metroport Meals On Wheels and
The Classic gathered to enjoy this longstanding tradition.
Owners Chris and Curtis Wells generously donate all proceeds to MMOW. In its inaugural year,
their outstanding team of servers donated the gratuities they received. This year’s team
continued the heart-warming tradition.
C
Chef Charles Youts and the entire Classic staff wowed everyone with a spectacular menu.
Appetizers of seared pork belly with balsamic demi-glace and smoked salmon mousse were
served with champagne on the patio prior to dinner. The four-course feast was introduced
Roanoke Animal Hospital’s Dr. David Shepherd and
with crab minestrone with lemon infused olive oil followed by a grilled wild mushroom and
his wife, Paula pause for a photo with their guests.
bread salad with balsamic roasted red pepper herb vinaigrette. The main course was a
spectacular presentation of pork Osso Bucco with creamy garlic whipped potatoes, steamed white asparagus and baby carrots. A chocolate
ginger tart provided a delectable ending to a fabulous meal. Each course was perfectly complemented with wines courtesy of Paradise
Liquors.
It was a delightful evening full of sumptuous food and wine and wonderful company. Thank you to all of the attendees and our great family
at The Classic at Roanoke for a more than memorable evening.
It’s a Family Affair
Twelve years ago, Glen Alan invited MMOW to bring participants for a morning of
pampering at his namesake salon in Southlake. Glen’s stylists loved the idea and
donated their time on their day off, MMOW volunteers served as caring chauffeurs,
and a grand tradition was born!
On the Monday before Mother’s Day, the salon was a hubbub of activity. The stylists
greeted MMOW’s participants enthusiastically then eagerly shampooed, snipped,
curled, and styled their tresses. Glen made sure there were stylists for the guys, too!
Glen’s wife, Tonya, served as official hostess for the group. The weekend before Tonya
and their children planned the menu for the box lunches for the participants. List in
hand, Jack, Alana, Levi and Ethan headed to the store to purchase all the special
ingredients. Sunday evening everything came together as the children prepared
and packaged the meals.
The volunteers and stylists had as much fun watching
and pampering as the seniors hod getting their new styles!
While the staff styled and volunteers beamed their approval, participants snacked on cupcakes provided by Small Cakes of Southlake and
exchanged news with the volunteers and MMOW staff. As each new style was declared a great success, participants were presented with
their special lunches and corsages made for them by Ali Kerr-Stewart. The morning ended with hugs and promises to return next year; the
huge smiles were proof that there is power in a Good Hair Day!
Sadie’s Shines
While Metroport Meals On Wheels is celebrating their 35th anniversary this year, we at Sadie’s have something to shout about, too!
Established on May 15, 1998 and named after Sadie England, MMOW’s very first meal recipient, we have enjoyed 17 years of business in
Roanoke, TX.
What was once a thrift store on Oak Street, Sadie’s is now an award-winning resale and consignment location that continues to attract savvy
buyers and sellers. Our customers know they can count on us to provide some of the most sought after labels in ladies fashion as well as
distinctive home furnishings. Our showroom is merchandised every day with new arrivals and displayed with artfulness that delights.
All proceeds exclusively benefit MMOW and its meal programs for seniors. Sadie’s continues to generate revenue to provide more than 25%
of MMOW’s annual income. We are grateful to our customers, donors and consignors for their contribution and look forward to another
17 years of success.

From their Hearts
MMOW’s heart radiates through each and every volunteer. Their extra touches, thoughtfulness, and concern know no limits. Our
participants and their families share stories of the kindnesses our volunteers bestow on their loved ones. Whether delivering meals,
assisting with senior center luncheons, assisting at Sadie’s, or serving on our Board of Trustees or helping with fundraising events, each of
our volunteers makes a difference in hundreds of lives every day. Their impact is profound and their motivation is love.

2014- An Impactful Year of Neighbors Helping Neighbors
Because of you, MMOW provided nourishment and encouragement to our elderly, chronically ill, or disabled neighbors of any age who
were unable to consistently provide for their own nutritional needs. As Neighbors Helping Neighbors, MMOW assisted homebound seniors
striving to remain safe and independent in their own homes, the place they most wanted to be. Through community luncheons, MMOW
enabled active seniors to enjoy fellowship as they supported one another through friendship, fun, and shared experiences. MMOW
engaged the community as well, inspiring support for seniors through a myriad of special services.
Outreach
Community support and loyal volunteers helped MMOW provide the
following services to feed, comfort, and uplift seniors in 2014:
- 32,452 hot, home-delivered meals to 250 individuals who ranged in
age from 40—98
- 33,510 meals at luncheons for over 1,000 seniors in 9 communities,
- 7,667 shelf-staple meals so homebound seniors were never without
healthy food
- 1,544 nutritional supplement meals at no cost to seniors who needed
additional nutrition
- 145 deliveries of pet food that provided assistance to 52 faithful pet
companions plus assistance with veterinary care for 5 pets, and
hundreds of fruit baskets and personal gifts for homebound seniors
during the holidays.
MMOW sends a very special thank you to the 626 volunteers who drove
over 60,000 miles delivering meals to participants’ homes and especially
to the 276 who have volunteered for between 5 and 34 years.
Outcomes
9% of home-delivery participants' conditions improved to the point
that they were able discontinue meals and resume normal activities
of daily living.
88% were able to continue living independently in their homes.
94% reported feeling safer knowing that a volunteer would be
checking in on them daily.

MMOW structures programs that have a solid community basis,
partnering with the communities we serve, with resources in those
communities, and with active community volunteers to enhance the
quality of life for everyone.
Diversified Support Strengthens MMOW
Since delivering its first meal in 1980, the key to MMOW’s success
lies in its commitment to provide services built on community
support instead of government programs. MMOW has created a
diversified funding base to ensure strength, stability, and
sustainability for the supportive services we provide. Coupled
with a strong grassroots philosophy and an ongoing commitment
to operational efficiency, MMOW effectively serves the needs of its
