As many of you may know, when I add
a new Stinger to the registry, I try and
get the hull number for the boat. In
addition to identifying the boat, the hull
number encodes information about the
boat such as the model number, year
the boat was built, and the location
where the boat was manufactured.
The website continues to grow – new

The hull number analysis tells us a little
about Chris Craft in the 1980s. By this
time, the Algonac plant (where Chris
Craft was founded) was no longer
building boats. Another of the historic
Chris Craft plants in Holland, MI was
used little. The Bradenton, FL plant was
where the majority of the Stingers were
built, however, production of the later
models seemed to be moving to the
Bellingham, WA plant.
One footnote to this analysis – I visited
a 1984 Chris Craft Stinger 260 whose
hull number started with GR4. I was
stumped for a while until someone
mentioned to me that Chris Craft
licensed production of the Stingers to
the Canadian company Grew Boats – a
light buib went off in my head when I
realized that GR must be the company
code for Grew boats. So some small
fraction of Stingers were actually
produced by Grew Boats – another gap
in the history of the Stingers I need to
research!

FROM THE FACTORY AND PICKED THE BOAT UP PERSONALLY IN
BRANDON, FL WHERE THEY ARE MANUFACTERED. THE BOAT AND
BOTH OUTBOARDS HAVE LESS THAN 200 ORIGINAL HOURS ON
THEM!!! IT IS A TRUE TIME CAPSOLE!!! IT HAS 2 ORIGINAL
JOHNSON 300HP OUTBOARDS WHICH COST ME $20,000 A PIECE.
NEW THIS BOAT COST ME $147,000 DOLLARS WITH THE ENGINES.
THE HULL HAS TWO LARGE FACTORY BAITWELLS WITH AERATOR

I am selling my 1987 Chris Craft Stinger 202. Great boat, but five
years ago my father never winterized the boat properly and
cracked the block on the engine. Manifolds are good, Hull is good,
Outdrive is good. I was so upset that I put it away for five years
and never looked at it. Drop a Long block in it and your good to
go. The biggest shame is that the boat only has 155 hrs on it.
Thats basically new. Would make a great boat for someone willing
to drop a new or used motor in it. Boat also comes with trailer. I
have taken the boat out of storage and its available for viewing in
Mississauga.
