Welcome to the August issue of the Blue Moon
Observer. Despite the gap in publication, DPAS
has been alive and active.
As you may read below, members have been busy
with outreach projects primarily by showing some
deep sky objects and Jupiter with binoculars and
telescopes. The green lasers have revolutionized
the practice of pointing out constellations trying to
show people how we find objects in the sky.
The Star
Garden sharp weeds
have been replaced by new sod which has been
lovingly watered by faithful members and is now
comfortable as well as decorative. The L.E.O.
shutter has been repaired and moldy walls have
been removed. We’ve had visitors and new members at our monthly meetings. We have even had

Its adaptive optics system along with other
technical features allow it in some circumstances
to obtain images rivaling the Hubble’s in
resolution.

John W. Beck, our President until this summer, has moved to Wausau, WI. He felt he is no longer able to
serve as President but hopes to remain active.
John J. Beck, MD was elected President by the Board.
Tom Nettesheim is now the proud owner of a brand new 10 inch Discovery Dobsonian telescope, after
waiting about 6 months for delivery. The tube comes apart in 2 sections, making it more transportable.
Dan Beck has moved to Algoma. He continues to work with Meissner Landscape.
Who are we?
DPAS is a heterogeneous group of people with a
wide range of ages, background and interests
who share an interest in the broad field of
astronomy. We meet monthly on the first Tuesday of the month at the John & Helen Collins
Learning Center at the Crossroads at Big Creek.
We operate and maintain the Leif Everson
Observatory at the Crossroads. This includes a
14 inch Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope, a TeleVue 102 refractor with a Coronado
hydrogen alpha filter for studying details of
activity on the sun, a weather station and a
budding project in radio astronomy. The StarGarden at the L.E.O. has binocular mounts
which allow people of various heights to see the
same view. We also are involved in outreach
