Over 2500 people came to enjoy a day of wine and food tasting, music, face painting,
silent auctions, jumpy house, a clown and magician. The weather was great and the

Director, Meals on Wheels
Rosemary Reilly
Rosemary grew up in Alameda, loved the community, and never left. She
raised her two children, Becca and Nick, here, and Becca and granddaughter,
Mia, have been delivering meals since Mia was 6 months old.
In the late 1980s Suzanne Lindsey, Board President at that time, invited
Rosemary to join the board. She brought years of experience with her own
Public Relations Firm and creative ideas for generating funds to grow the
program. Rosemary later accepted what she thought would be a transitional position as Director of AMOW and
ended up staying for the past 19 years.
“I value the opportunity to do this type of work. In fact, it is a dream job for me,” says Rosemary. “I truly love
working with the volunteer Board of Directors and the volunteers that deliver the meals. Being able to answer
the phone and respond to the needs of the recipients right away is so important to me. Too many times all
they can reach is an answering machine and then they are put on a waiting list. We are able to start their
meals immediately.”
The generous spirit of the community of Alameda is something Rosemary has always appreciated. She says,
“In Alameda, when the chips are down, people respond.” She is very proud of the additional service now
provided through AMOW - Alameda Friendly Visitors. This is something she feels has been needed for a long
time and fully addresses the needs of our recipients. They now can enjoy a daily hot meal and a visit of 1 to 2
hours each week.
Looking to the future, Rosemary hopes to keep growing both programs. She knows there are many more folks
who could benefit and looks forward to the day we will be able to serve them. Alameda Meals on Wheels is
truly lucky to have someone as capable and dedicated as Rosemary. We say “thank you” for 19 years, and
hope there will be many more.
Jerry Healy was one the founders of AMOW and continued to support our program since 1973. He was a
remarkable community activist and friend to many.

participate in a workplace giving campaign. The good news is that both the donor and AMOW can

There are many ways to be a volunteer. Carolyn Murphy – master
seamstress – decided to make these beautiful hand sewn bunnies for
all of our women recipients. Carolyn Murphy has been involved in
Alameda for years. Still working for Gallagher & Lindsey Realty, and
semi-retired, she loves bringing a smile to people with her gift of
bunnies.
Meals on Wheels volunteer, Bob Langton, had the pleasure of
delivering bunnies to the recipients on his delivery route. They were
well received by all. Good job, Bob!
Bob and his son, Guy Langton, deliver meals every Thursday
morning. What a wonderful way to get together on a weekly basis
with a family member or friend - deliver meals together and visit while
you volunteer. Best of both worlds!
