Annual Charity Golf Classic- On June 22nd, 2009 the ACH Foundation held its annual Charity Golf Classic under beautiful sunny skies at the Alliance Country Club. Fourteen teams participated in the daylong event, which was the 10th annual outing of its kind for ACH. • A total of $39,865 was raised to benefit the Alliance Family YMCA, the Stark County Interagency Council on Homelessness and the Alliance Neighborhood Center. The Alliance Community Hospital Foundation was founded in 1986. The organization’s original objective was to contribute to hospital fundraising, maintain community involvement and health care awareness, and grow as a philanthropic spirit of the hospital. Today, the ACH Foundation strives to offer philanthropic support in order to provide community benefit and raise hospital awareness. Since its creation, the Foundation has helped to raise millions of dollars for ACH and other good neighbor organizations. Mount union college mock drill- Alliance Community Hospital teamed up with Mount Union College for a mock disaster drill on Sunday October 18th. The event was hosted by the hospital and Mount Union with participation from the Alliance Police Department, Alliance Fire and Rescue, several other area Fire Departments as well as Stark County life flight. • This event helped to ensure that our local safety forces along with ACH are equipped to handle a disaster incase it should ever occur in the Alliance area. The hospital was able to test out its emergency response plan of action which included the testing of an “off-site” triage area should we need additional beds for victims. Recognition Reception- On October 22nd the Foundation held its annual reception to thank those who have given over $150 in the past year to our hospital. Those in attendance were treated to appetizers prepared by our ACH café along with beautiful music provided by a string duo from our neighbors at Mount Union College. • We honored four new inscriptions to the Tree of Life as well as sixty-two new bricks to our hospital walkway. Steppin’ Out for Hospice 5K- The 2009 Hospice 5K Walk/Run was a huge success! With a one mile run for the kids and a 5K for the adults, there was something for the whole family! We had such great feedback that we’ve decided to make it a permanent event benefiting the foundation. United Way Campaign- In October, Alliance Community Hospital employees stepped up to help the Stark County chapter of the United Way. We hosted our annual employee drive to raise money for the local charity. In efforts to raise additional funds the Foundation hosted a United Way garage sale on November 13th and 14th in the old Rent-ACenter building on Union Avenue. Members of the ACH management staff and directors donated items to be sold. • Through our hospital wide employee drive we raised $8,705 for the United Way. The two day garage sale event raised an additional $620 for this great cause. Light Up the Labyrinth- On November 19th we hosted our inaugural Light Up the Labyrinth event. ACH colleagues and the community were invited to purchase a candle representing one of our ten Planetree tenets. Then on the 19th we gathered to light candles at our beautiful Labyrinth located in front of the hospital. Several colleagues shared thoughts on what being Planetree meant to them. • A total of 31 candles were purchased raising $310 for the Foundation. Charity Begins at Home- The month of August we asked colleagues to help the good of their “home” by donating to the 2009 Colleague Campaign, “Charity Begins at Home.” A portion of the funds raised will be used to purchase Automatic External Defibrillators to be located throughout the hospital. Fifty-Five new walkway bricks were purchased in conjunction with this campaign. • 280 hospital colleagues pitched in to raise a grand total of $20,895 all of which will stay right here to benefit services in the hospital. Tune-Ups- The PR/Foundation Department helped out at the annual colleague tune-ups. We had our Year End Mailing Campaign. To date this letter writing effort has raised $19,951.76. • We were able to fill a pick-up bed FULL of non-perishable food items that were donated to the Alliance First Christian Church and food pantry just in time for the busy Holiday rush. Holiday Week- The PR/Foundation staff helped to make the holiday season a little brighter this year by hosting a weeklong celebration leading up to Christmas. It kicked off with “Card Day” on Monday, when colleagues were asked to fill out a card and send it to residents of our Community Care Center. On Tuesday, we offered free hot chocolate or coffee in the Café, courtesy of the Foundation. On Wednesday, soft touch massages were offered as a holiday “De-stress Day.” On Thursday, we asked colleagues to show their appreciation for all of our service men and women and on Friday, we wrapped up our Toys for Tots campaign. • As a result over 600 cards were mailed to the Community Care Center residents and the Stark County Marine Corps League graciously accepted over 200 toys for local children.
