On behalf of Bishop Grimes, we wish all of our families a

in the front lobby. We are reminded that each day we walk with Jesus.

The 8th grade retreat, which was previously postponed due to bad weather, was held on March 11th. The theme
of the retreat was “The Road to De-Mask-Us”. Mr. and Mrs. Kinne served as our retreat masters and the 10th

LEVELS OF GIVING
GRIMES ANNUAL FUND
THE BISHOP’S CIRCLE
$5,000+
To the Bishop Grimes Community:
PRINCIPAL’S CLUB
$5,000 — $2,501
As one of the students who attend Bishop Grimes, I have learned how important the
Annual Fund is to my academic success and Catholic Faith.
MSGR. SHEEHAN SOCIETY
$2,500 — $1,001
As I pass by the classrooms each day, I see the school making many positive improvements. For example, because of the Annual Fund, the chapel has been renovated,
making it extremely inviting. In addition, many technological updates and improvements have been made to the school’s infrastructure which now supports many
technological advances. The introduction of these improvements create a learning
environment that goes well beyond the confines of the traditional classroom. The educational value will lead to fundamental changes in our learning as well as we will now
be able to access information instantaneously, develop creative thinking through interactive strategies, and engage us in learning. There is no doubt in my mind that the
Annual Fund contributions helped the school keep pace with these technology
changes.
The Annual Fund also supports student tuition scholarships which are very important to
many of the students who attend Bishop Grimes. Many of my friends are very
appreciative of the scholarships that they have received from Bishop Grimes. If
scholarships were not available, many of my friends would not be able to afford the full
tuition costs.
GRIMES HONOR GUILD
$1,000 — $501
COBRA CLUB
$500 — $251
BLUE AND WHITE CLUB
$250 — $101
GRIMES PATRON
$100 — $50
WAYS OF GIVING

CORPORATE MATCH
I also appreciate the knowledge and passion for learning that my teachers pass on to
me through their teachings and classroom discussions. It is really important for Bishop
Grimes to have a great faculty; the Annual Fund helps retain highly qualified faculty and
support their academic departments.

ENDOWMENT
When I graduate and go off to college, I plan to support the Grimes Annual Fund to
ensure the future of Bishop Grimes. I am convinced that every gift is important to the
Fund—no matter if it is $10 or $1,000. Every contribution will have a tremendous
impact on the lives of all Bishop Grimes students.
I now the impact that donations to the Annual Fund have on students because I’ve felt
them personally. Won’t you please donate to the Grimes Annual Fund? In doing so, I
thank you for the part you have played in my education and for helping to maintain the
level of quality that makes Bishop Grimes such a special place to learn.

REMEMBERING SOMEONE IN A SPECIAL WAY
Bishop Grimes invites you to
participate in our Memorial Bench
Program. The program provides an
opportunity to commemorate an
alumni or a loved one with the
placement of a bench that
enhances the Bishop Grimes campus. A memorial bench is a popular
way to remember and pay tribute to an alumni or loved one. What
better way to pay tribute to a fellow classmate. To participate in the
Grimes Memorial Bench Program, a fee of $1,000 will be charged
for each bench. This fee covers the cost of the bench, delivery, installation, and a commemorative plaque. If a donor wishes, a card
of acknowledgement will be sent to the recipient’s family advising
that their loved one has been memorialized. Each donor or class
will work with the Development Office to determine the ideal location for your bench. The name of the one memorialized will be inscribed on a plaque affixed on the bench. To order a bench, please
call the Development Office at (315) 314-7157.
ONE CLICK, ONE MINUTE, ONE STUDENT
In less than a minute, our alumni can change the life of a student!
Bishop Grimes receives funding from the Syracuse Catholic Diocese and the Guardian Angels.
While we certainly appreciate their appropriations, the funds represent a 13.2% allocation to our
operating budget. Private giving coupled with tuition revenue and fundraising income must make
up the majority of Bishop Grimes current budget. Private support from our alumni plays an increasingly significant role in the continuum of providing quality Christian education. Your support
provides more than simply “extras”...it is critical for advance Bishop Grimes. Your gift translates
into student tuition scholarships. In other words, your contributions provide educational opportunities that otherwise would not be available
to many students.
Whether you are a recent graduate or you graduated many years ago, we all have one thing in common. We want to ensure that Bishop
Grimes continues to provide a quality, Catholic education. Please consider making a gift today to the Grimes Annual Fund. All donations will
be acknowledged.

OUR STUDENTS ARE AWESOME!
In February, Bishop Grimes Art Club traveled to the Everson Museum for an early morning
tour. The tour guide commented on how engaged the students were and later made the
following comment to Mr. Rockwell, “...the nicest group of students we have had on a tour”.
Thanks for being such great school ambassadors!
STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS
In February, the Student
Council held its annual
Catholic Schools Week
Blood Drive in conjunction
with the American Red
Cross in the Sheehan Gym.
Student donors were treated to a donor breakfast prior to donating blood, compliments to the Student
Council. Over the course of
the day, over 20 students
and faculty members donated blood; thereby helping
over 60 people in the greater Central New York community. The American Red
Cross was especially grateful as this winter supplies of
blood were very low due to
the poor weather conditions
which caused a number of
scheduled drives to be cancelled. Many thanks to all
of the donors, helpers, and
the American Red Cross.
Seniors Travel to Albany
On March 19th, Mrs. Moss and Mr. Carney and 17 seniors traveled to Albany for the New
York State Catholic Conference’s Public Policy Day. While there, they met with legislators to
advocate for the Catholic Diocese and participate in the lobbying process. They discussed
various bills pertaining to preserving Catholic schools, women’s health, and the humane
treatment of incarcerated and vulnerable New Yorkers.
Academic Games
On Saturday, March 29th, Bishop Grimes hosted the Annual Academic Games. The
competition was offered to Catholic School students in grades K-6 throughout the area.
Event categories included: Math, Science, Oratory, Drawing/Painting, Spelling, Vocal, Essay,
Religion and Lego Robotics. More than 250 students participated in this year’s event. The
purpose of the event is to (1) develop self-esteem and dignity through excellence in
academic/cultural achievement; (2) to interact and socialize with students from neighboring
Catholic schools; (3) to promote quality Catholic education; and (4) to have fun!
Congratulations to all of the winners!
Graduation
Please note, the Baccalaureate Mass will be
held at Bishop Grimes on Friday, June 13th
at 6:30 p.m. Father John Canorro will be the
celebrant. Graduation will be held on

It’s that time of year again! The Student
Council is looking for members of each of
our classes who are interested in serving
their school community and classmates as
class officers and Student Council members. Class officers are responsible for the
work of individual classes while the Student

entire school community. The Student
Council Executive Committee is made up of
a President and Vice-President, who are
either Juniors or Seniors, and the President
of each individual class is a member of the
Student Council Executive Committee.

OUT AND ABOUT...
SHAMROCKIN’ WITH BISHOP GRIMES
On March 15th, the Student Council, faculty and staff members, and
Bishop Grimes students, and families gathered together to celebrate and
participate in downtown Syracuse St. Patrick’s Parade.
This was the tenth year that Bishop Grimes has participated in the
parade and the eighth year that the school has been the official barrier
carriers for the different divisions of the parade. Throughout these years,
Bishop Grimes has been able to develop a great relationship with the St.
Patrick’s Parade Committee who provide t-shirts, coffee, cocoa, and muffins for the banner carries each year.
On behalf of Bishop Grimes,
we sincerely thank each and
every student/family member
who participated in this year’s
parade. Special thanks as
well to Mr. Rockwell and all those who finally made Mr. Kinne and Student Council’s dream of having a true float in the parade a reality. As
one parent commented, “Great job, everyone!! Just the best! Can’t wait
for next year. Thanks for letting us be a part of it all.” - Joe Insel
BG STUDENTS TRAVEL INTERNATIONALLY
In February, Grimes French teacher Mr.
Kinne led an international trip, with the help
of Spanish teacher Mrs. Bearer, to Spain,
France, and Italy. Nineteen people went on
the trip including students, parents, and relatives of BG community members. Despite
a “snowy” start to the trip that resulted in
cancelled flights and an unexpected overnight in NYC, the group made their way to
sunny Barcelona for the first leg of the trip
where everyone was treated to flamenco
lessons. Following that, the group explored
Southern France including Carcassonne, the
Pone du Gard, Avignon, Aries, and Nice.
One of the
highlights of
the trip was
attending one
of Nice’s
carnival
parades,
which is like
a family
friend version of Mardi Gras. The travelers
then made their way to Monaco, Pisa, and
Florence. The trip concluded with two days
in Rome and Vatican City, where the group
was able to participate in a private mass
right in St. Peter’s! Hollie Cartini (‘14)
and “Auntie” Linda Young were given the
privilege of reading the Scripture lessons
during the Mass. In what proved to be a
very memorable homily, the priest
lovingly told the group, “I don’t speak
English vey well. So, I will pray for you
and I ask that you pray for me.” The trip
concluded with a traditional pizza dinner
and an uneventful trip home to Syracuse.

NEWS FROM THE GUIDANCE DEPARMENT
MAKING A DIFFERENCE
As we mentioned in the last newsletter, Bishop Grimes has established a new program
called, “Making a Difference”. The program focuses on the positive acts of kindness
that our students exhibit by recognizing each student who has said or done something
that has made a difference in someone’s life in order to keep interactions positive and
productive with both peers and teachers.
The following students are being recognized for MAKING A DIFFERENCE:
Madeline Kujabi: Without being asked, Madeline scrubbed all of the pots and pans at
the 4th Annual Music and Arts Showcase. Madeline was a tremendous help and we appreciate her generous assistance.
Briananichole Burke-Hill: Briananichole volunteered to mentor a fellow student. What a
great steward!
Alexa Shahine: Being new to a school can be somewhat overwhelming and frightening.
Alexa made a new student feel more comfortable and more at ease.
THANK YOU FOR MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
DID YOU KNOW...
If each Bishop Grimes family sold just 6 BG Sweepstakes tickets, we would make our goal of selling 2,000 tickets! For any family that sells 6
tickets, they will automatically be placed in a drawing for a $500 scholarship. Proceeds from this fundraiser support the tuition scholarship
program. So please support this event. There are 18 chances to win $5,000. The second prize is $2,500 and third prize is $1,000. There
will be 5 prizes of $500 and 10 $100 prizes. The cost of each ticket is $25.
This event is vital to the school’s fundraising efforts. This is a major fundraising event for Bishop Grimes, so please enlist your relatives,
friends and co-workers. The drawing will be held at a special reception on Saturday, September 13th at 3:00 p.m. at Bishop Grimes.
To order your tickets, please contact the Development Office at (315) 314-7157 or email [email protected].

BISHOP GRIMES PRESENTS “ONCE UPON A MATTRESS”
If you thought you knew the story of “The
Princess and the Pea” you may be in for a
walloping surprise! Did you know, for
instance, that Princess Winnifred actually
swam the moat to reach Prince Dauntless the
Drab? Or that Lady Larken’s love for Sir
Harry provided a rather compelling reason
that she reach the bridal alter post haste? Or
that, in fact, it wasn’t the pea at all that
caused the princess a sleepless night?
Carried on a wave of wonderful songs, by
turns hilarious and raucous, romantic and
melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar
classic of royal courtship and comeuppance
provides for some side-splitting shenanigans.
Chances are you’ll never look at fairy tales
quite the same way again!
So, please join us on Friday, May 2nd, or
Saturday, May 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Bishop
Grimes Gymnasium. Tickets are $8 for
adults and $4 for children and senior
citizens. Concessions will be available during
intermission.
