Architect TannerHecht Architecture This redevelopment project is on the site of the original Carnation/Qualitee Dairy Building, located adjacent to the home of the San Diego Padres, Petco Park. Icon consists of four individual residential towers situated over a three-level, subterranean parking garage, accommodating up to 490 vehicles. Tower 1 is 24-stories in height (approximately 192,700 square feet) consisting of 143 units and a roof terrace with bleacher seating. Tower 2 is 11-stories in height (approx. 109,300 square feet) with 66 units. Tower 3 is 9-stories in height (approx. 60,000 square feet) with 50 units. Tower 4 is 5-stories in height (approx. 37,800 square feet) with 26 units. At the ground level of the four residential towers, approximately 31,500 square feet of retail space has been incorporated. The residential towers and parking garage is concrete framed (Type 1 construction). 203039.00 H-A2003 719 Ash Street Hotel San Diego, California Owner Narven Enterprises, Inc. Architect Joseph Wong Design Associates Provided the structural engineering design and construction documents for a new upscale 332-room hotel project located in downtown San Diego. When constructed, the approximately 275,000 square foot hotel will consist of eighteen levels above grade and four levels of below grade parking, accommodating 208 vehicles. The Ground Floor level will include dual lobbies, restaurant, retail and “back of house” space. The Second Level will include meeting, office and sales space. Levels 3 through 14 will be guestroom levels, with large penthouse suites on the top level. At the Eighth Floor there will be an outdoor pool / spa and patio seating area. “Eco” roofs have been incorporated at Level 3, Level 8 and at the upper roof. Construction of the hotel and subterranean parking will consist of Type I, cast-in-place and post-tensioned concrete. Lateral resistance is provided by concrete shear walls. The Owner will be seeking the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver certification upon completion of the project. 207163.00 H-A2007 Doma Residential Building San Diego, California Owner CityMark Development General Contractor Swinerton & Walberg Architect Martinez + Cutri Corporation This residential and mixed-use project located in San Diego’s Little Italy district includes an eightstory, 112,000 square foot building consisting of 68 condo units and a four-story, 89,000 square foot building containing 52 condo units. The two residential buildings sit over a two-level, 135,000 square foot subterranean parking garage which provides 227 vehicle spaces. Situated on this site is the historical Stamp Building, which was retained, renovated, and incorporated into the final design. The building is utilized for retail space. The project earned the American Institute of Architects Merit Award in 2004. 200148.00 H-A2001 Bella Via Residential Building San Diego, California Owner Bella Via Associates, LLC General Contractor Roel Construction Architect Carrier Johnson + CULTURE Bella Via includes a six-story, 74,000 square foot building consisting of 41 condominium units along with 5,000 square feet of street level retail. The mixed-use facility is one-level above grade and one-level subterranean parking garage. The twolevel (one subterranean) 21,000 square foot parking garage accommodates 59 vehicles. Bella Via is one of 14 residential projects planned, underway or recently completed in Little Italy. 200143.00 H-A2001 Mission Hills Commons San Diego, California Owner Mission Hills Investors, LLC General Contractor Carter Reese Associates Architect Carrier Johnson + CULTURE This mixed-use / residential project was built in two phases. The first phase included two separate buildings connected by an exterior exit balcony atop a one level parking garage. The parking garage accomodates 80 vehicles. The two buildings combined total approximately 52,000 square feet. The East Building consists of 27 apartment units, while the West Building contains 23 apartment units and one floor of retail space. Site amenities include a community room, manager’s office, and exercise room. The second phase consisted of two separate buildings connected by an elevated exterior exit balcony. Both buildings are mixed occupancy and include apartment units with a mezzanine level on the third floor over a ground level of retail space. There are two apartment units in the West Building and five apartments in the East Building. 200074.00 H-A2000 UC San Diego Muir College Student Apartments La Jolla, California Owner UC San Diego General Contractor Sundt Construction, Inc. Architect Delawie Hope-Amundson provided the structural engineering services for this design-build housing facility located on the UCSD Muir College campus in La Jolla. The scope also included project program confirmation resulting in a Detailed Project Program (DPP). The new campus facility consists of a nine-story, 99,000 square foot apartment building containing 275 beds constructed of cast-in-place concrete with shear walls providing lateral resistance. A food services convenience store is located on the Ground Floor. The resident population is primarily undergraduate second year students. The campus was designed to earn LEED Silver certification. UC San Diego The Rita Atkinson Student Residences La Jolla, California Owner UC San Diego General Contractor Webcor Builders Architect Valerio Dewalt Train “The Rita,” also known as the Health Sciences Graduate Housing, is a design-build project composed of two wings, one seven stories tall and one nine stories tall, with a total of 226 fully furnished apartments configured in two-bedroom units. Amenities include a “green roof,” on-site conference, study and meeting rooms, gymnasium and laundry. The design-build process enabled to keep construction costs down and accelerated construction. Students were able to move into the apartments one year ahead of schedule. The project earned LEED Gold Level Certification for Core & Shell from the U.S. Green Building Council. UC San Diego is one of the top-ranked public research universities in the nation. 208017.00 H-A2008 UC San Diego One Miramar Street Graduate Student Housing La Jolla, California Owner UC San Diego General Contractor Sundt Construction, Inc. Architect Studio E Architects & MVE Institutional One Miramar Street Graduate Student Housing contains four, four-story metal stud framed apartment buildings totaling approximately 398,000 square feet, containing 800 apartment-style beds configured in two-bedroom, one-bathroom units. In addition to the apartment buildings, HopeAmundson provided the structural design services for the six-story, 190,000 square foot parking structure. The parking structure was constructed of cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete, accommodating up to 685 vehicles, with an additional 121 surface level parking spaces. Sundt performed all of the concrete work for the parking structure. Hope-Amundson provided the structural design of all components of the project. 204095.00 H-A2004 MetroWork Office Building San Diego, California Owner Berkson Realty Advisors, Inc. General Contractor Swinerton Builders Architect Baldauf Catton Von Eckartsberg Hope-Amundson provided the structural engineering services for this nine-story, 80,000 square foot, Class ‘A’ office building with an upscale restaurant and retail space. MetroWork contains 27 office suites and Anthology, a 250-seat upscale restaurant, bar and upscale live music venue on the first three levels. Located on the edge of downtown San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood, the building is constructed of cast-inplace concrete. This challenging project occurred on a narrow 50foot wide by 200-foot long downtown lot with existing structures on both sides. 204080.00 H-A2004 Westgate Hotel Renovation San Diego, California Photo: Hollander Design Group Owner Westgate Hotel General Contractor Johnson & Jennings Architect Hollander Design Group Originally constructed in the 1960s, the owner decided to renovate the interior of the existing high rise hotel along with the addition of a new pool on the rooftop of the adjacent Riviera Terrace amenity building. The Westgate provides hotel guests luxury lounging, sunning and swimming amenities with new spas on the Riviera Deck mezzanine, a new lap pool at the roof level and an outdoor fitness area on the main hotel’s roof deck. The Riviera Deck is also used for events booked at the hotel throughout the year. Additional improvements included the enclosure of pool equipment, stair and elevator shaft extensions and shade structures associated with the outdoor exercise areas. 211051.20H-A2011 Pechanga Recreation Center Temecula, California Owner Pechanga Development Corporation General Contractor Roel Construction Architect Delawie Hope-Amundson was retained by the project architect to provide the structural engineering services for this Recreation Center facility located in Temecula. Pechanga Recreation Center is two stories above grade. The facility consists of a gymnasium, locker rooms, bowling center, billiards room, arcade, classrooms and other assembly spaces. The adjacent site development includes a competition swimming pool, recreation pool, spa, and associated support facilities. Recent tenant improvements were provided to accommodate an outdoor fireplace and rooftop mechanical equipment. 207047.00 H-A2007 Fort Irwin Guest Hotel Fort Irwin Military Base | Barstow, California Owner Landmark Organization General Contractor Joe E. Woods Architect Edward J. Cass & Associates Hope-Amundson provided the structural engineering services for this approximately 87,000 hotel project. Landmark Organization, which is based out of Austin, Texas, was the developer. The three-story, 180 room hotel is located in the Fort Irwin Army Post outside of Barstow, California. Fort Irwin, also known as the National Training Center, is the only training facility in the world that is designed for force-on-force and live fire training of heavy brigade-sized military forces. The NTC provides 4,000-5,000 soldiers essential training opportunities to make them the world’s best Army. 20009.00 H-A2000 Viejas Outlet Center Alpine, California Owner Viejas Casino & Turf Club General Contractor Douglas E. Barnhart, Inc. Architect Carrier Johnson + CULTURE Provided the structural engineering services for Phase II of the Viejas Outlet Center, incorporating four one-story steel-framed buildings to the retail outlet center’s existing 180,000 square feet of tenant space. The Owner is one of the largest and most successful Native American tribes in San Diego County. The rich heritage of the Viejas band is reflected in the Southwestern style of architecture and through the use of sculptural landscape elements. Meandering pathways, rock outcroppings and distinctive water features capture the essence of the tribe’s history and success. 198125.00 H-A1998
