Forty intrepid boys and five members of staff spent the first week of half term travelling around the sites of ancient Greece.
A week wasn’t long to get from A-Z but we managed it…Acropolis, buying “tat”, Canal, Delphi, Epidauros theatre, flood in Olympia, Greek salad, Heracles, Isthmus, Jocasta – nasty end - Kalavrita, Lernean hydra, Mycenae, Nemea race, Oracle, Parnassos,
quick- sick bag needed, rack and pinion railway, stadium, Tiryns, underground lakes, views from hotels, wooden wall, Xerxes,
yellow cheese (fried), Zeus. The trip took in everything from modern engineering to legendary tombs, with the only hiccup
coming when the wrath of Zeus prevented a rerun of the Olympic Games with a prolonged thunderstorm which turned the
stadium at Olympia into a beach. Luckily we were able to race in the ancient stadia of Epidauros and Nemea, with Mark Rodrigues crowned victor at both. Hopefully this selection of pictures from Mr Hipkiss, the official tour photographer, will whet

The boys were a credit to the school throughout, and were excellent company during the week. Mr Hortin would like to thank
them, and also the staff who gave up their time and energy to make the whole trip run smoothly: Miss Attie, Mrs Hamilton, Mr
Hipkiss and Mrs Richards.

Mr Kisaka, Headmaster of Rarage School Kenya, visited Rushmere just before half term. He taught every class about the
impact that our sponsorship has had on both Obera and his
new school Rarage. The boys were fascinated to learn that
over the last nine years ten classrooms have been built, a
bore hole has been dug and a computer suite opened. All of
this has been possible through the hard work of the Rushmere boys and the generosity of their parents.

On the last Friday of half term the U8 A team represented the
school in our annual Football tournament. We welcomed 24
teams from 16 different schools to Kingsway for a fantastic afternoon of football. In the Pool stages the A team started with
great intent and very quickly put Twickenham to the sword with
four goals, Noah, Olly, William and Jack all getting on the score
sheet. Next up was a very good Downsend team that kept pegging us back and two wonder goals which even Marcus couldn’t
touch earned a draw, but two goals from Freddie secured the
point for us. The boys got back to winning ways with a comfortable win over Thomas’s Fulham with Noah claiming both goals.
There was then a very tough match against Cranmore which the
boys managed to scrape through with a one nil win thanks to
Freddie. Our last game was against Donhead and the toughest of
the group. We played well and certainly deserved the point that
took us through to the knock-out stages as group winners. In the
quarter finals we came up against old foes, Shrewsbury House,
and confident from our victory over them a few weeks ago the
boys looked calm with great defending from Ethan and Ollie as
well as consistently excellent goal keeping from Marcus. Eventually we got our opening and Noah scored the winner sending
us through to the semi-final. Our opponents in the semis were
Dulwich College and despite finding it hard to break them down
we always looked in control. After full time nothing could separate the teams so off to penalties we went, All the boys scored
their penalties (thankfully we had practised earlier in the week)
and after a great save from Marcus, we won 5-4 in sudden death
to meet Thomas’s Clapham in the final.The boys gave it one huge
last push and deservedly took the lead again through Noah. We
held on and on until right to the end when they equalised sending us once again to penalties. The boys were solid, all scoring,
and a wonderful save from Marcus gave us the break we needed.
No mistakes and the trophy was ours! Congratulations to all
the boys who gave so much throughout the afternoon - Marcus,
Freddie, Ethan, William, Noah, Jack and Oliver. The boys remain
unbeaten this season in 11 matches!

Following his nomination Callum URS trialled with 110 other boys and was selected for Harlequins Surrey Development
Squad; a squad of 32! The boys train once
a month at Surrey Sports Park and the aim
is to improve every aspect of their game
also making the boys aware of all parts of
being a successful athlete (nutrition, mental
approach, strength and conditioning etc.)
At the end of the programme Callum will
receive a detailed report from Harlequins
and will hopefully be moved up to the U14
Developing Player Programme (DPP) next
year. This is an outstanding achievement
and we wish him every success.
