and book reservation for upcoming events such as the Christmas Ball on
Saturday, December 2, Texas Hold’em on Thursday, December 7th, The
Family Christmas Party on Sunday, December 17th and the Girls Night Out
on Thursday, December 21st which this year is a benefit for an adopted family

New Year’s Eve will consist of a special Dinner from 5:00 – 8:30 PM and, new this year, will
be a Children’s Party from 6:30 – 9:00 PM.
I am also proud to report to the membership, that as other club’s in the district struggle,
Lochmoor continues to maintain membership, reduce debt and manage expenses efficiently.
The current condition of Lochmoor is not an accident. Many thanks to this year’s Board of
Directors and our Board Member/Treasurer Richard Widgren, for all of their hard work. I
am also thankful to Mr. John Paul, our General Manager, and his staff. John and our staff
have done an outstanding job since his arrival on September 6, 2006. Finally, thank you, the
membership for your continued efforts to recruit new members in all categories. Your efforts
are a key ingredient to our continued success.
Unfortunately, on behalf of the Board and staff I must extend our condolences to the family
of Connie Cracchiolo who passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2006. Mrs. Cracchiolo
is the mother of our friend and my Vice President, Pete Cracchiolo.
The Lochmoor Club lost a great friend and loyal employee, Laurie Davis, who also passed
away on Wednesday, November 8, 2006. The Board, management and staff extend our
condolences to Laurie’s family. As you all know, Laurie was an integral part of our club’s
operation and she will missed by all.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Lochmoor Club we wish you and your families a
happy and healthy holiday season.

It is hard to
believe that
December is
here already.
This fall did
not provide
the weather
conditions conducive for golf.
The golf course is entering
the winter months in great
shape though. The staff did
a great job with leaf removal
and fall agronomy programs
are well in place and should
provide for great turf conditions next spring. Tree
maintenance will be of high

priority this winter as well as
drainage.
practice is what has thickened up and improved our
roughs and walk-on areas.
The wet weather has affected
our aerifing. This winter we
will aerify and leave the
plugs over winter on walk-on
areas as well as some other
stressed areas. We have 3
fairways remaining to aerify
and have not decided what
to do with them. We may just
leave to spring or aerify and
leave plugs to spring. I will
keep you posted. We will also
be doing our annual Dormant
Seeding in December. This
The golf course greens will
be closed after the first weekend in December dependent
on weather. If you want to
cross country ski you are
more than welcome too. We
just ask that you stay off tee
and green complexes. The
compacted snow and ice can
and will cause damage to our
turfgrass. We will cover #18
green this winter in order to
promote and protect the new
5
turf plants that we reestablished on the back third of the
green. The green looks great
and next spring 18 should be
back to normal. However, we
will not cover the rest of our
greens this winter. I have had
good success in controlling
pink snow mold in the winter
by not covering the greens.
This has been a major disease of our turf areas here at
Lochmoor Club in the past.
May all of you have a safe
and happy holiday season!

Happy Holidays
Fairway Magazine
Men’s Bowling
By Dan Zintsmaster
I hope everyone had an
enjoyable and restful
Thanksgiving holiday and I
would like to wish everyone
a Happy Holiday season
and a Healthy and Happy
New Year.
Well after the last newsletter
a bit of a retraction is
needed for the sandbagger
accusation made against
team Schatko. They are
the first place team and
definitely are defending the
position well with a strong
811 average. Well I guess
we will have to try and put
the Sports Illustrated Jinx
on them. If I could I would
put a picture of their team
on the magazine cover,
well instead we will heap
plenty of praise and hope
they choke. Team Daniell
is right on their heels and
are definitely making the
battle for the top of the first
half interesting. The family
teams are the contenders.
I need to recognize a great
achievement by one of
our bowlers. The strike
machine that said he
doesn’t even like the game
of bowling. Billy Raffoul
had a three game series
that was the highest ever
at Lochmoor. He rolled a
267+268+243 for a total of
778. Great job Billy. That is
a great series
If anyone is interested in
the up to date standings
or just wondering about
your scores or averages
you can always go to the
website, which is www.
bowl.com, look at the
left side of the page and
select “standing sheets”,
our league ID is 1090 and
you will then have a view
of the current league info.
This also will let you see
the Jackpot winners, which
mainly have been the team
Schatko members, along
with a select few, but with
Billy’s big series he won 2
out of 3 Jackpots for that
week. A big congratulation
to George Cueter for
winning the large Strikeball
pot. Good job George. He
mumbled something after
he threw the ball that if he
made the strike, “all bowling
members would receive a
50% discount at the jewelry
store”. That George is such
a generous guy.
the nice boxers. Jerry at
the bowling alley would like
me to point out to George
Cueter and Dave Miller,
please don’t damage the
equipment when you miss
an easy spare. It has been
observed that Fred Andary
could be trying out for Soul
Train with those smooth
dance moves after a great
strike. We witnessed that
Bob Boesinger definitely
gets more pin action if you
just add a few liquids. Last
but not least I couldn’t forget
about the true sandbagging,
basement dwelling, and
last place team of Saros.
Everybody get ready for
“The Press” coming in the
second half. Let all beware.
Well the “Tip from The
Fik” is definitely something
that affects all bowlers, so
please read carefully and
follows all directions.
As with any physical sport,
it is extremely important
to pay close attention to
what we put in our bodies.
Therefore, this month’s tip
will feature “The Bowling
Diet”.
Just a few observations
over the last month that
need to be pointed out,
whenever you see Granger
with his glasses on beware
of a scoring issue or
adjustment, Mackool loves
to hear about any scoring
problems. The more the
merrier, he loves to be
corrected. So come on
down and let him know
the issues. Bashara the
sweat pants have raised a
concern about the potential
streaking. Please no
repeats of last year or wear
We must first make a few
assumptions:
1. Your league does
not start until after
6:00pm
2. There are no known
cardiovascular
conditions
3. You are not
pregnant
When the Bowler wakes
up bright and early around
9:30 AM, avoid drinking
more than six 8 ounce cups
of coffee. By limiting your
caffeine intake, it allows you
to keep your appetite for the
most important meal of the
day….Breakfast.
Fairway Magazine
7
The proven successful
breakfast by the top 8
bowlers in the world starts
with 3 large eggs over easy.
The white goo in the eggs
mysteriously lubricated
the shoulder blade for 12
hours…..6 strips of bacon,
4 sausage links and whole
grain toast will accent the
Bowlers first beer of the
day.
Almost any fast food is
recommended for lunch as
long as you eat between
12:40PM and 2:10PM.
(Never deviate from those
times) Why you Ask?
Because dinner will be
served near the first 3
frames of the 2nd game that
day.
If you stick to the Bowlers
diet program for breakfast
and lunch, you are free to
basically eat anything for
dinner during bowling. One
very important note for
dinner…..always eat with
the opposite hand you bowl
with. Not necessarily due
to hygiene. Remember,
grease on your bowling
hand interferes with proper
lift of the ball. We all know
that lift is important for
the hook. In closing …..
It is recommended by the
ABC (American Bowling
Congress) to limit 3 beer
frames per game. Bowl

open in the evening and on

All of us at the Tennis
House mourn the loss of
Lochmoor’s Comptroller
Laurie Davis, who passed
away November 8th and Mr.
Charles “Red” Kalvelage,
a longtime member and
lifelong tennis player,
who also passed away in
November. Our memories
of them and the times we
shared will stay alive in
our hearts always. Our
condolences go out to their
families and friends. They
touched our lives in many
beautiful ways.
We had another very
successful year at the
Tennis House. Many
thanks to my wonderful
tennis staff: Mike Rose,
Pete Alle, Jan Smiatacz and
Donna Zade for helping to
make the Lochmoor Tennis
House a great place to play
and enjoy tennis.
Thank you to all our
members who used the
tennis facility in 2006. Start
making your New Year’s
Resolution early to get
in shape by working out
more, and by playing more
tennis…the sport for a
lifetime of fun and fitness.
To get started playing call
us at 886-0777 then leave
the rest to us. We hope
to see you at the Tennis
House during the holidays
and in 2007.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO
ALL!
Golf Notes
By Tommy Valentine
For my last
Fairway
article of
2006, I wish
to thank the
membership
for their
support of the Golf Shop.
We take pride in offering
the best new selections
at Mill River pricing and,
after reviewing the member
survey, realize most
members are happy with
the selection and service.
For those who want
different selections, Michelle
and I are always open to
suggestions. Let us know
what you’re looking for and
we’ll try to accommodate.
The survey also says good
things about most of the golf
operations except for the
junior program. We are also
not happy with its operation
and currently are trying to
find solutions to make it
better; day changes, format
tweaks, parent participation
and responsibility changes
have been discussed and
hopefully a better junior
program and academy will
emerge.
Remember to use your
credit by Christmas since it
is not carried over.
The shop will be open for
Holiday sales until 3:00 on
December 24th and open for
returns and special sales
the 26th, 27th and 28th and
closed for the season on the
29th of December.
Have a great Holiday and
remember the Golf shop
first for your gift needs.
I wish to thank the
members who supported
the Assistant’s Raffle and
to Rod for his two years
of service to Lochmoor.
He is leaving for private
business outside of golf
and hopefully to actually
spend a summer weekend
with his wife Wendy.
Thanks Rod. I have offered
the assistant’s position
to another well qualified
person and with Lochmoor’s
quality record for producing
head professionals from
the staff, a great candidate
is available. I’m sure the
Lochmoor membership
will be proud of our new
staff member who will
be announced before
Christmas.
