NORMAN SELLERS IN 19705
We got a call from the manager of a Pilot in Knoxville.
Norman found a substantial amount of money in
the men’s room and turned it in to the manager. We
salute you Norman! Not many people have that kind of
integrity, thanks for paying it forward. Meryl Williams,
Fleet Efficiency.

ORDIE CONRAD
AND JAMES AUBREY IN 16418
Ordie and James ran over to a truck stop and moved a
truck for us before it got towed. The driver had left town
and the truck stop decided to do some construction and
were going to tow our equipment. Ordie and James met
the drivers’ sister, got the keys and moved the truck to
another parking spot. Thanks guys! You saved everyone
a lot of trouble and money! Ed York, Fleet Efficiency.

JUNE COMPANY DRIVERS
OF THE MONTH
MARVIN KENNEDY
AND DARIUS ABRAHAM IN 16465
These drivers recovered a hot load and made it to
delivery with an hour to spare! Thanks! Neil Eastham,
Fleet Efficiency.
Congratulations Keith and Achsah! Your hard
work and strong work ethic has paid off. You are
among our top performers!
Both Keith and Achsah are always willing to help
out where they can and always do a good job. I’ve been
fortunate to work with them both for a while now and
believe that we have a very good work relationship.
Thank you both for everything that you do for PTL.
Keep up the good work and ride safe out there!
Dale Torsak, Fleet Manager
MARCY WEAVER AND ROBERT NEILSON IN 19795
Marcy and Robert recovered a load from another truck
that could not make delivery. They ran to Minnesota to
deliver on time. Thanks from our customer and PTL!
Ed York, Fleet Efficiency.
OTIS WASHINGTON
AND NICHOLAS HUBERT IN 19782
These drivers did a great job recovering a hot load.
Thanks for your hard work! Monica Glasco, Fleet
Efficiency.
STEVEN MCGAUGHEY IN 16390
A special thanks to this driver for helping us move empty
trailers during evening hours before the customer’s
month end push. This is one of our most important
shippers in that area and Steven was extremely helpful
in meeting their trailer requirements. Thank you
Steven! Georgie Peterson, Customer Service.
Keith and Achsah Cole and their sweet new ride!

SHELLY GALLOWAY AND LORI CASTO IN 19800
These ladies recovered a load from a driver in Texas and
ran straight through to deliver in PA/NJ on time! Our
customer was very glad to get the product! Thanks for
the effort helping get this load out of trouble! Ed York,
Fleet Efficiency.
PATRICK KENNEDY IN 19756
Patrick has been with PTL for two years and to my
knowledge, he holds the record for solo miles in a
month – 15,601 in June! Patrick was driver of the month
for May. He is extremely grateful for his fleet manager,
Wade Grossman and says “He and I are a perfect match.
Wade always takes care of me. I plan on taking my
vacation when he takes his just so I don’t have to work a
day without him!” Nick Shell, Driver Support.

TRAINER REGEIL STAPLES IN 16518
While on home time for July 4th, Regeil took time in
the Georgia area and loaded and dropped loads for us
so other drivers could keep running for the weekend.
Regeil is always willing to take the extra step and does
a great job training new drivers. Neil Eastham, Fleet
Efficiency.
EDWIN OTERO-CRUZ IN 16087
Special thanks to this driver for his patience and
determination the day before 4th of July. He hung
in there with us while we found him an empty trailer
and then he hustled down to load it. Because he kept
in touch and kept moving, the shipper was willing to
wait for him later than normal. Great job, Ed! Georgie
Peterson, Customer Service.
MICHAEL BOGGS IN 65194
Got a call from a good customer in Bogalusa LA praising
Michael for taking the time to fix some of our trailers
that had been rejected due to stuck tandems. Michael
fixed the trailers that were incorrectly set up and got
them back in service. Our customer said he wishes all
drivers were as efficient and professional as Michael.
Thanks Michael! We appreciate it! Pam Bennett,

JAMES HILL IN 16302
James’ previous monthly average was 9,690. I showed
him how to improve by only putting 30 minutes
between his eta/pta and don't ask permission ahead of
time to deliver early. James then got 10,030 in May and
10,724 in June; his new average is 10,377. He is now
consistently averaging more than 10,000 miles per
month. Nick Shell, Driver Support.
JERRY WAITERS • 16528
JUNE TRAINER OF THE MONTH
Jerry is one of my best trainers, he has trained 50
people so far. He is one of about five trainers that I go
to for advice on making the training program better.
I often talk about my “core” team of trainers and he is
not only a part of that team but one of the leaders of it.
He knows what the job is, will do whatever it takes to
get the job done and will take the time to talk to other
drivers and give advice. I often refer new trainers to
him to get advice on how to train. Jerry and people
like him are a key part of our success as a company in
the past, present and future. I hope to work with him
for many years to come. Congratulations and thank
you for being part of our team. - Kevin Fox
ALEXANDER TURNER IN 16563
I want to send a very BIG THANK YOU to Alex. He
was willing to stop in Nashville and give up a load to a
driver needing to get home immediately for a funeral.
Thanks for all of your help Alex! Tona Massengale,
Fleet Efficiency.
DANIEL KIRTLEY IN 16549
Called Driver Support and put his new P1 Joshua
Claxton on the phone, to be introduced to the Big 5
before Driver Support even had a chance to call him first.
This tells me that Daniel seriously cares about helping
his trainees to become successful. Unsurprisingly,
Daniel’s own trainer, Kenneth Maxwell, did the same
thing for him on February 3rd. Nick Shell, Driver
Support.
BILLY TAYLOR IN 19651
On June 18th a message was sent out to watch for a
missing trailer. Driver Billy Taylor located it in a
DOT weigh station and called it in and we were able
to recover the trailer. Thanks Billy, we appreciate you
keeping an eye out! Ed York, Fleet Manager.
Jerry Waiters, left, with trainee Rahim Foreman
Jerry takes his position as a PTL trainer very
seriously. He is a consistent trainer and takes pride
in his job and teaching all of his students. Jerry is the
type of trainer who cares for every student he has
trained and is always asking me how his previous
students are doing. I am very happy that Jerry is one
of our best trainers as well as a role model to our new
hires here at PTL. Congrats Jerry on being trainer of
the month! - Spencer Baldwin
What can I say about Jerry? Organized, devoted,
motivated, passionate, willing, great sesnse of humor,
knows when to be serious, straight to the point. I
could go on and on about Jerry and the way he trains
new drivers that are wanting to work. If I had the
chance to be trained by anyone, I would choose Jerry.
Thank you for all you do! - Eric Hicks
MARYLAND TRANSPORTATION
AUTHORITY POLICE
Shelly Galloway and Lori Casto in 19800 were stuck at
a closed road for several hours when trying to pick up a
trailer. They were told they would just have to wait and
it turned into several hours of waiting. Officer S. Long
checked on them and when she realized how long they
had been there, offered to escort them to their destination,
making sure they could get the truck in and out and
checking to see where our trailer was for pickup. Too often
we only hear the bad news regarding law enforcement.
This team just wanted to let everyone know that they
appreciated Officer Long helping them out.

Employee Stock Ownership Plan (“ESOP”)
FORMAL ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPANY STOCK PRICE ON JUNE 18th
In one of the prior issues of the Fine Line Newsletter we shared a bit of information as to how the value of the Company
stock is determined. On Thursday, June 18, 2015, the per share value announcement for the plan year end 12/31/2014 was
made to the employees of Paschall Truck Lines as well as a brief reminder as to how and when the ESOP was put into place.
On September 26, 2013, Paschall Truck Lines redeemed all its outstanding shares of stock from its sole shareholder,
Tony Waller.
• The company established the Paschall Truck Lines, Inc. Employee Stock Ownership Trust (ESOP Trust), a retirement
plan authorized by the Employee Retirement Security Act (ERISA) of 1974.
• The ESOP Trust purchased all of the stock (1,000,000 shares) of Paschall Truck Lines, Inc. for $2,000,000.
• Share value as of September 26, 2013: $2.00 per share.
• Share value as of December 31, 2013: $10.40 per share.
• As a result of everyone’s hard work and dedication, Paschall Truck Lines had one of its best years ever in 2014. We are
pleased to announce that the share value as of December 31, 2014 is $30.00 per share.
Remember, as a 100% ESOP Owned S Corporation, the Trust is a tax-exempt entity so when the Company is profitable,
those taxes that would typically have to be paid are now tax deferred and can stay in the company to build up cash/investments,
reinvest in the business, pay down debt, etc… which all add to value. 2014 was an exceptional year and not only were typical
profits attributable to the bottom line but also were the tax savings!
Also note that at the end of the presentation there was a reminder to all of the following:
• The ESOP Plan is meant to supplement your retirement. While the Plan has potential for large balances to accumulate
over time, PTL makes no guarantees about what the future value of your ESOP Account might be.
• Remember, PTL also offers a 401(k) Plan. We encourage you to take full advantage of the 401(k) Plan to help supplement
your retirement.
• You can log onto esopconnection.com/ptlinc to view your account balance and more information about the ESOP. It’s also
a great resource if you have questions about the terminology used on your ESOP Statement of Accounts. Just enter your
First Name and Last Name. Your password is your social security number until you change it.
• Please fill out your Beneficiary Designation Form. The form may be found at esopconnection.com/ptlinc and can be filled
out online, or printed out and returned to Russell Long.
• Any questions about our ESOP plan may be directed to Russell Long, Director of Human Resources: [email protected]
or 270-753-1717 x 316.
WHAT MIGHT THIS MEAN TO A MIDDLE AGED EMPLOYEE WHO WILL RETIRE IN 26 YEARS?
• John was 38 years old when
the PTL ESOP plan was
established in September of
2013.
• John believes that the stock
value will rise quickly over the
next couple of years and then
settle into an annual growth
rate of about 5% per year.
• He plans to retire in 2041
after his 65th birthday.
• His average pay is assumed
to be $30,000/year.
• What can John expect his
ESOP account balance to be
when he is ready to retire?
Note: John does not have a crystal ball. The Company makes no representations as to whether John’s views about the
growth rate in the stock value are accurate.

NICK SCANLON IN 19873
Meet Nick Scanlon who has been with PTL since
October 2014. This is Nick’s first job as a truck driver,
he loves waking up in a different location each day, it is
an adventure. Kirk Jaster was his trainer, they are still
good friends and stay in close touch with each other.
Kirk’s attitude and professionalism inspired Nick to
become a trainer also. Nick is also a US Army veteran
having served in Iraq. Thank you for your service
Nick! We are glad to have you on the PTL team!
Trainer Major Sheffield and Trainee Moffett Dugger

and Kirk’s Trainee John Tennant.
Jason Compton, Nick’s Fleet Manager had this to say:
“Nick always works hard to get the loads delivered
on time. He truly cares about the
trainees we have and gives them the
best experience possible. Nick keeps a
positive attitude all the time no matter
what. A really great guy who helps the
company out a lot!”

Trainee John Hays recently logged record miles for a

JOE STANFIELD IN 16561
Meet Joe Stanfield! Joe has been with PTL since
November 2014. He is a graduate of Lincoln Land
CC Driving School and returns there often on his
home time to speak with students and show off his
truck. Joe is from Chatham IL, home of the Sweet
Corn Festival which features a “cow chip throwing
contest” each summer. Yes, he has thrown a few
chips himself and got them about 100-125 feet. Joe
is active in the Jaycees and helps each year parking
cars or processing the 14,000 ears of corn it takes for
the Sweet Corn Festival. He enjoys visiting with his 10
year old son, Caleb, on home time. Joe says that the
support network he has from his family and friends
at home makes life much easier on the road. Despite
having down time due to truck issues, he always has a
positive attitude and we appreciate that!

We are open from 5 am through 6 pm, Monday-Friday and Saturday from 730 am until noon. El Paso is in the Mountain
time zone. We are closed on Sunday.
We have supplies available including white and yellow Transflo cover sheets, trailer seals, log books, blank Comcheks,
camera accident kits and replacement fuel cards.
We can fax your signed bills upon request
Parking is very minimal. We only have 20 spots reserved so most drivers head out to the truck stop.
We share our dumpster with A.N. Webber and they have requested that we only throw small amounts of trash in it. Do
not clean your trailer out into the dumpster.
Directions: From I-10 east/west – exit 34 (Americas Ave.) - go north to Rojas Dr. and make a right – go up to a 4 way
stop and make a left on Mercantile Avenue. We are on the left hand side, A.N. Webber/PTL.
After 6 p.m.: A.N. Webber will close its gates but the shop will still be open. You will need to honk your horn so they can
come out and open the gate for you. When the shop closes at 9 pm (Monday-Friday) the security guard will take over and
will be by the gate to open it, if he is away from the gate you will need to honk your horn. On Saturday the gate is open
from 7 am until noon. When the gate is closed you must honk your horn. We have a lot of honking here.
• Watch for a lot of road construction when you are
headed to the terminal. We do have a Pilot Truck
Stop about 3 miles east from I-10 (exit Horizon) and
there are plenty of motels near the terminal.
• A.N. Webber does our maintenance. We swap tires,
do trailer repairs and very minimal truck repairs. If
you need repairs, contact Road Maintenance.

VERY IMPORTANT: One
big request for our drivers,
when backing up the trailer,
please watch out and do not
damage the fence.
Hola from El Paso, Texas!
I believe we are hitting or getting near our peak. These past few weeks have been very busy and that is just the
way we like it. All of our customers have been shipping non-stop. Empty trailers are like big chunks of gold right
now and everybody is looking for one. We just can’t get enough empties.
As busy as we are, we’re still working on potential new customers. One potential customer ships twice a week,
year round to Louisville KY. That will be great miles from here. Keeping our fingers crossed on this one.
I want to give a shout-out to Jesus Echeverria in truck 16459. Jesus has been driving for
PTL for 9 years now and has enjoyed every year of it. Jesus told me that working for PTL has
been a great experience and working with his fleet managers, Oscar Reyes and Tony Barcenas,
has made his job even easier. Jesus also told me that when time flies by quickly, that means
life is good and these 9 years flew by. He does not plan on leaving any time soon. Great job
Jesus! Looking forward to working with you for another 9 years my friend!
Well, that will be all for now, until next time, hasta la vista!
Your friends in El Paso.

SUBMISSION OF
CITATIONS AND INSPECTIONS
CONTACT US AT 800-225-7120,
OPTION 5
We are here for you!
The FMCSA states in regulation §396.9 (d) (1) that the
driver of a Commercial Motor Vehicle shall immediately mail,
fax or otherwise transmit the inspection report to the carrier
within 24 hours.
With that being said, always make sure that the copies
that you are sending to the carrier are clear and legible. If,
during the inspection, you have received a citation for any
type of violation, you are also required to submit a copy of the
ticket (front and back) with the inspection report.
There are a couple of ways that you can submit these in
a timely manner:
1. Fax to 270-753-1528 (ATTN: Gene Fielder/Sandy
Burnett) or fax to 270-753-1730 (ATTN: Tabitha Jones)
Either fax number will assure that the appropriate persons that handle these time sensitive documents will receive
a copy.
2. Fax or scan both sides of the citation. Be sure to sign
your name on the citation where required.
3. Transflo or Trip-pak scan the documents with a
yellow log cover sheet. Then send message 21 and place an
‘X’ next to the number 9 over the Qualcomm with the 16 digit
confirmation code. The code or number, will be a combination
of letters and numbers i.e. LV01-2ab3-d45e-6fg7. There may
or may not be any dashes.
4. Out of service “FIX IT TICKETS”:
a. All OOS inspection reports must be signed by the
repairer.
b. CA must be signed by the repairer AND a DOT
Officer before being sent in.
If, for any reason, there is a problem or question, call Gene
Fielder in Driver Services at extension 335 for assistance.

Any time NaviGo is even just a little bit off, please send us feedback from the customers’ truck
entrance, this allows us to plot the point where the truck needs to be instead of the mailbox or the front
of the building.
To send NaviGo feedback, go to the navigation main screen, press the feedback button, then the
general feed back button. This will give you a screen where you can type a message. Remember, the more
information that you put in your message, the more information we have to pass on to other drivers. We
encourage you to include any general details for the customer that you feel other drivers should know.
This can include:
• Do they have overnight parking?
• Do they have a scale on site?
• Does the customer take open deliveries or do they only take firm appointments?
• Any other information that will help your fellow driver.

CSA Maintenance Score Card
Preventable CSA Maintenance Violations and Preventive Actions
Each month we study our CSA maintenance score to determine why we were
cited for a violation. We are looking for trends and repeated failures that we can
prevent by changing maintenance practices. At the same time, we evaluate each
violation as to whether the driver could have found the defect prior to DOT finding
it and prevented the violation with a thorough Pre-trip or Post-trip inspection.
During June we were cited for 105 violations of DOT vehicle safety
requirements. Our analysis of the available data shows that 85 (81%) of those
violations should or could have been prevented by a pre-trip inspection. Listed
below are the violations that a proper pre-trip inspection would more than likely
have prevented along with preventive actions.

Prevention Basics
Air lines cannot rub against any other part of the
vehicle. They cannot be kinked in any way. This is
easily seen by a visual inspection.
Cannot have any defect larger than what a dime
would cover. They also may not be glazed or
discolored in any manner.
A discharged fire extinguisher is a violation. Fire
extinguishers are secured in a metal mount with a
latching metal band attaching the fire extinguisher
to the mount. If the band is not latched, it is a DOT
violation.
Should be heard during a vehicle walk around with
the engine running.
Even a very basic pre-trip would have observed
leaks prior to being found by DOT inspectors.
The most common violation. All lighting should
be tested at least daily if not every time you take a
break. Either a light is observed to be working or
not working.
It is basic safety procedure to ensure the tandem
pins are properly seated through the slider rail holes
prior to moving the trailer after sliding the tandems.
Visual inspection would have noted questionable
tread depth, flat tires and exposed tread.

Speaking of Maintenance . . .
David Graham
VP of Maintenance
CUMMINS BATTERY POWERED APU
PTL began equipping all our tractors with Auxillary Power Units several years ago. At this point, every PTL tractor has an
APU, either a diesel engine powered unit or a battery powered unit to provide heating and cooling to the cab while the main
engine is shut down.
The older trucks have a diesel powered unit from Thermo King. The last several hundred trucks we have purchased have
been equipped with a battery powered system. We made this change because of regulations
requiring diesel exhaust filters on the small diesel engines and the on-going maintenance cost
of operating diesel APUs.
We have monitored the battery based systems since they were first introduced several
years ago. Those early systems could only provide a limited run time without depleting the
batteries and their cooling capabilities were limited. Technology development over the years
has led to improvements in performance and reliability. The battery powered option became
even more attractive with the introduction of main engine auto start features offered by
International and Detroit Diesel. These systems monitor the battery voltage and crank the
main engine to recharge the batteries without driver intervention. These have proven to work
pretty well in the PTL fleet. Trucks starting at 16600 through 19799 have the engine auto start
and battery powered APU.
David Graham
In late June, we started deploying our newest tractors, units 19800 through 19999. These
units are also equipped with a battery powered APU for driver comfort. These trucks also
feature the Cummins ISX as the main engine platform. Unfortunately Cummins does not offer an auto start feature. As a
result, we can expect slightly different performance issues with the Cummins engine and APU combination. We expect this to
be a satisfactory combination, but the drivers of these trucks will have to more closely manage their onboard power supply.
APU run time could be diminished causing the driver to have to crank the main engine to recharge the batteries. This could
be a minor inconvenience for those drivers wanting an extended APU run time.
Our suggestions for managing the APUs with Cummins engines are:
1. When stopping for the night, make sure the cab is at the temperature you want it to be before shutting down the main engine.
2. Once the engine is off, go to the APU control panel in the bunk and press the Park button. It will light up.
3. Use the dials on the controller to control the temperature and fan speed.
4. The APU will operate until the battery voltage drops to the point the batteries have to be recharged. The APU will shut
down at this time.
5. There is an idle-up feature that permits the engine to idle up from the 600 rpm to 900 rpms to recharge the batteries
faster. Once the engine is cranked, press the cruise on/off button on the steering wheel, then press the set or accelerate/
resume button and the engine will idle up.
We expect minimal problems with the Cummins/APU combination. If you experience something that you think we should
share with other drivers in the operation of these units, please let us know.
One last comment on checking your tires. I recently observed a trainer who had just gotten his trainee. He began his
instruction by teaching the trainee how to do a pre-trip. I was at a distance watching and things were going pretty well until
they got to the tire check. The trainer backed off and kicked the tires to check for inflation and then had the trainee do the
same maneuver. Bad start for a trainee. The only proper way to check the tires for inflation is to use a pressure gauge. I hope
all our drivers check their tires for proper inflation and use a tire gauge to do it. Thanks for reading. Our entire PTL Maintenance team wishes you a safe and maintenance free trip.
PARTS KITS AVAILABLE
Maintenance wants to help those drivers who want to help themselves instead of waiting on a service truck. We are issuing a
parts kit through our parts room to drivers who ask for them. Extra lights, glad hand seals, spare fuses, air pressure and tread
depth gauges or anything else that a driver requesting the kit is comfortable repairing can be included in the kit. We do not
expect our drivers to be repair technicians but we see a lot of smart drivers who know if they can make a minor repair instead
of waiting on a service truck, that will save them time and put money in their pockets. Pick one up in Murray or West Memphis.

PTL POLICY ON LENGTH, WEIGHT, AND BRIDGE LAW LIMITS
Our policy is to get our units legal for all the states they will travel through. We want our drivers to use the following guidelines. For weight:
use 12,000 for the steers, and 34000 for each tandem with a gross weight of 80,000 lbs. For length: use 41 feet or 6 holes from the front
with the exception of 3 states: (California 40 ft., Michigan 40 ft. 6 in., South Carolina 40 ft. 6 in.). If you have to deviate from this standard,
please get permission from your fleet manager on the Qualcomm. We offer the following suggestions to help you stay legal:
1. Always scale your load. Many of our shippers do not have a scale and put an estimated weight on the bill of lading. If the
shipper does have a scale PTL still wants you to scale the load as soon as possible since most shippers do not have a certified scale.
2. If you have a problem with your load being either overweight or overlength. Please send your Fleet Manager
a Qualcomm message explaining your problem. If your problem is overweight, please list the weight on all 3 axles plus the gross
weight, plus your bridge law setting, (example - 6th hole), and your fuel amount, (example - 3/4 tank). Your Fleet Manager will send
you instructions over the Qualcomm about how to proceed. Please wait until you get instructions over the Qualcomm from your Fleet
Manager to return to the shipper or to move your axles.
3. Length limit messages may be sent to the truck. If you get a load to California you will receive a message to set your
length at 40 feet or 3 holes from the front. Please get your load legal for all the states you will be traveling through. If you are dropping
a California load in El Paso you still need to get the load legal for California before you leave the pickup area.
4. If you pick up a load at a drop lot or in a swap. You are still responsible to scale each load you hook to. Please keep in
mind that some of our trucks weigh less than others so even if the load was legal for the first driver it may not be legal for your truck
without some adjustment. The first driver may not have a co-driver and extra set of gear. 5. If you get into a situation during your trip where you have to apply your brakes hard to avoid an accident, do not hesitate to rescale your load at the next truck stop you get to with cat scales. We have
had several instances where drivers had to do emergency braking which caused their cargo to move causing their load to become
overweight.
6. If you do get a citation for being overweight or overlength. Please scan that citation both front and back with a
yellow log cover sheet to Driver Services within 24 hours. If you scan the citation with your bill of lading please send Driver Services
a Qualcomm message 21 with the confirmation number so we will know we need to get the paperwork from Finance. 7. Trailer tandem pins must be locked into the slide rail so the tandems will not move. If the pins will not retract
or lock, send canned message 30 to road maintenance for repair.
8. Even an empty trailer must meet the state requirements for length limits.

Accident Prevention
CONGESTION
Lea Wells
Director of Safety
Major accidents don’t just happen. They often involve impatience and taking chances as a result of traffic
congestion Heavy traffic seems to bring out the worst in some drivers.
Avoiding congested areas can lessen the chances of being involved in an accident. Avoid those areas during
rush hour traffic that become grid locked. Take a different route if practical or adjust your timing to miss that area
at the worst time.
Traffic congestion may or may not be predictable and therefore, may not be avoidable. You might not be aware
of short term highway maintenance or construction until you see the signs or traffic backed up before you get to
the signs. Accidents cause congestion when “rubber neckers” slow down to look or lanes are blocked. Weather
conditions may back up traffic when roads are blocked or restricted by flooding, high winds, or snow and ice.
Congestion primarily promotes two types of accidents: rear end and sideswipe. Be alert and look ahead so you
can be aware of traffic slowing or stopping. Since traffic may suddenly stop in front of you, you must always keep a
safe following distance. Don’t change lanes unless absolutely necessary. The more you change lanes, the more you
increase the odds of having a sideswipe accident. You have seen others change lanes frequently in heavy traffic.
They usually fail to signal and cut in front of you. Anticipating situations in which others may change lanes and
placing your foot over the brake pedal, will help you be prepared.
The most important things in congested traffic are being alert and patient. Don’t talk on your cell phone, etc.
Concentrate on your driving. Don’t be impatient. Getting angry and using poor judgment will only keep you in
congested traffic longer. Maintain your patience and professionalism!

DRIVER SUPPORT SPOTLIGHT
RANDY LEE BRUMLOW IN 16185
Randy is a prime example of how the Big 5 can help increase
your OTR miles. He consistently averages 10,500 miles and gives
credit to following all the Big 5 Tips!
Randy had this to say: “I love PTL! This is the best job I’ve
ever had. I wouldn’t give it up for the world. I also love my Fleet
Manager, Tona - she’s a great communicator and always keeps
me running!”
Our Big 5 Successful Driver Tips!
1. Aim to average driving 8 hours, 45 minutes a day; not 10 or 11 hours. You have 70 hours, divided by 8 days,
which equals 8.75 or 8 hours 45 minutes to drive on the average day. If you aim to drive closer to 9 hours a day
instead of 10 or 11, that should keep you running on recaps and keep you from running out of hours or running
low on them. (If you are part of a team, make sure that both of you are not sleeping in.)
2. If your pre-trip walk-around in the morning takes less than 7 minutes, you can flag it as off duty. For your posttrip at the end of the day, the minimum is 10 to 15 minutes on duty. Please call Logs at extension 333 if you need
more details.
3. Unless it’s a firm appointment, arrive at the customer ASAP and find out in person, not over the phone or
QualComm, if you can deliver early. If the answer is no, call Driver Services for a safe and legal place to park.
4. Spend an hour or less between ETA/PTA to keep the planner’s attention.
5. For home time each month, there are two weeks which are slower for freight; our top runners go home the
weekend between those 2 weeks for 4 days. Therefore, the other 2 weeks of the month are the busiest, when our
top runners make themselves available. Our top runners also do not stay out for more than a month as this leads
to burn-out and/or pushed out ETA/PTA.

Russell Long
Director of Human Resources
In case you have not noticed there are two new investment choices available in the 401(k) Account.
One is the Wells Fargo Advantage Precious Metals Retirement
Option. If you go online and review the Morningstar Fact Sheet, just
the first page is provided here, you will find that it has not made money
for the last few years. A lot of people insist they want to invest in gold,
silver, mining and the like. If that interests you, here is one opportunity.
As of 07/06/15 it is down 5.68% for the year. This is a highly ranked fund
in its category.

Another new option is in the Mid Cap Growth area; the Janus Enterprise Retirement Option. This fund has
consistently received the “Four Star” rating from Morningstar and was chosen to replace the old Morgan Stanley
Mid-Cap Growth Fund which was performing below the standards established for our Plan. Again, just the first
page of the Morningstar report is provided here and we encourage you to go online (www.ta-retirement.com) and
review the rest of this report as well as the Fact Sheets on all of the other choices within our Plan. You may call
1-800-401-8726 if you need help navigating the website. This fund has ranked as high as the 7th percentile out of
755 comparable investment options!
These, as do virtually all investment funds, involve risk. You should seek the advice of a competent investment
counselor before investing.
